what is the community looking for?

hey guys, i was just curious what the community (what little there is left) wants as far as mods? like a patch mod that goes around fixing things, chaos mod for factions ie; Khorne faction Slaneesh faction and so on. What is your opinion?

A mod that fixes bugs and the few remaining real balance issues. Then it becomes so popular that Relic takes it and makes it official and also throws in a few of the best user-made maps for ranked play. Crazy pie-in-the-sky dreams count right?

Can't the HWT bug be fixed by using the shared health mechanic to make sure the gunner always dies last and not the sarge? If that can't be done that at least JUST GIVE THEIR LASGUNS BAAAACK!!! Let Terminators level again but either nerf their base stats or nerf their scaling. Nerf autarch grenades and catachan shottys and I'm totally satisfied with the balance then. But if this is a wishlist I would also like to see the Zoan shield nerfed a little and/or give lictors a hard cap of 2. So if you want lictors that bad pick the LA and you can have 3 lictors. You don't see lictor spam that often but I hate it.

I would have really liked a mod(or official addon) along the lines of Shumas April fools joke with the Armaments of war mod, so that we have alot of customisation options and that it shows in multiplayer so that everyone would have a unique looking army(besides the army colours)

If this is a "wish list", can we at least keep it reasonable, please? GUI editing is a long, difficult and imperfect process, and stuff that requires engine work is naturally out of the question.

Oh sorry, I thought that this was just a general "If retribution was getting an Update, what would you like to see"

In that case the only thing that need to be fixed seems to be the animations for the Heretics, they seem to have been broken by the Tau update last year

thanks gorb, but yea no doubt nothing over the top, like things that are normally only done by relic, this is limited to stuff that modders can do. again there are no promises that i will make any of these.

What's wrong with the tics animation? Is it how they shoot bullets out of their chests? One small thing that really bugs me is how Catachan shotguns have no sound effects or muzzleflash. It looks weird.

I had an idea for a Homeworld2: Ground Assault. :P

It's a total conversion mod for DoW 2. My ideas I think would work practically in some respects, not so much in others. The big hassle I think, would be to convince Relic to let us use HW references in the mod, but I'm not sure if that'd be possible without a signed consent. I'm kinda a total noob when it comes to Mods, but I have a zillion and one ideas for the mod, a few ideas to implement that I think wouldn't be too hard would be:

Hiigaran Ion Cannon Global Ability (or a shameless copy of GDI Globals): A Ion Cannon Frigate strikes the planet's surface, causing instant death for anything not quick enough to evade a fiery death.
-Aka, just copy the Orbital Strike animation into one "command-able" beam for 20 seconds that can be moved from spot to spot, doing massive damage, speed is slow, but damage is high.

Vaygr Bomber Barrage (Rocket Run remix): A squadron of Vaygr Bombers bombs the terrain, not once, but twice for effect, causing massive damage and knockback to anything in range.
    - Replace Valkyrie animation with 7 bombers flying by and use plasma shots on a bigger scale to "mimic" the ability of super-heated death from above

I almost have in my head a working units list, commanders, and campaign idea, if you want to hear more, lemme know Any comments or feedback would be cool too.

I realize my idea isn't of the "Normal Stock" of suggestions, I realize it would take a lot of time and effort to make, but I figure allot of the whole Dawn of War stuff could really mesh out more back story on Homeworld, from a fan perspective. It took allot of effort I'm sure to make Path to Victory and other Homeworld Mods, but if anyone is really interested I've love to give ideas and such about it. I myself do not mod, nor know how to do mods, so I know I'm asking the impossible >< I just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

please all ideas are welcome, however all may not come true, many mods that try to convert dow to a space warfare game (like home world if im correct) have failed, so i am not so sure it can work, but you never know.

dont forget that this isnt all about what should be fixed, it is also for proposing mod ideas which you would like to see, but remember to not go over the top, like ui editing or stuff that can't be done.

Hello, I'm kind of new in the forum, I just want to say that an Imperial Guard rank 60 lvl mod (like Armaments of war) may be good. The sga file that comes with the AoW mod (ModIG.sga) does not give you the heroes armor plates, nor the upgrades for the tank (i think i saw some dozer bits in the tanks on a web site) and guardsmen weapons upgraded (bayonets or anything that rank gives u) and the Inquisitor skull servant with a Fire brazier. The AoW mod forgot about those ... I dont play online (bad internet connection=laggggg) so i can not tell you the specific upgrades that come with the ranks and i download Shuma's Death Korps but they are ranked compatible and in rank lvl 1 they don't look that nice as in the pics... So... A single sga giving you an improved imperial guard its what i think is needed... Sorry if my english is bad, i'm trying my best

Out of interest, what happened regarding the complaints about Bloodcrushers? I'm sure many folks were complaining about it being a fast melee vehicle in Chaos Rising which no heavy weapons platforms were effective against. I'm guessing that a number of mods addressed that.

In general skirmish/balance mods are not a good idea for several reasons:
    1. Modders and people who use mods are generally not experts at the game because the experts are out there playing the normal game modes. This makes it hard to balance things properly in mods. While not an expert myself, I played about 1500 3v3 matches when the game was new and was ranked in the top 100 for most of the time (highest I got was 8th! ), though of course 3v3 isn't the best indication of skill. Even with this experience, I don't think even I'd be suitable to make a balance mod.
    2. Many people are not good enough at the game to be truly affected by some elements of balance, so the effort is somewhat wasted as they will still win or lose regardless of balance changes because they simply don't play well to begin with. An example of this may be how tactical marine spam use to be considered unbeatable at some points throughout the game's history: noobs could use it and win, and if someone used it against them they couldn't beat it. There's also plenty of other examples of simple things like this as well.
    3. It's difficult to gather enough interest and actually have everyone use the same balance mod. Many people have tried in the past, including pro player Edtjuh and Kolaris who was a pretty big modder when the game was new (he made the simple but effective tooltip mod which people still use I think).

This community really lacks the simple but interesting ideas that you see in Starcraft's "use map settings" type of games, and you should really go with something like that, just some heroes fighting against huge waves of enemies similar to The Last Stand yet different in a way that makes it worth playing.

I agree, im all about epic battles. I do however prefer to play against multiple exp computers vs other people since im used to playing games that are unbalanced enough to begin with. balance seems to only really come into play if you are playing vs other people. If you know fighting 1 cpu on expert is too easy then ya can always go vs 2 er 3.

So in essence, anything with epic battles of 400+ pop cap with more building works for me

My idea of a mod is to slow the game down in pace a bit, work more toward capturing req and power nodes, then building defenses around it and, not spam troops and run around the map until one has the most req to buy the big guns and blast to other player out of the map.
I am working on a mod for me personally but that's focused on guard players going at it and no other races, sort of a ww1 idea with big arty barrages moar defensive structures and stronger repairable ones so you'll be able to get a stalemate standoff in the middle of the map, wont be really follow the codex in any way but what the heck it's my mod :P.

I want daemon princes and other greater daemons available to their specific chapters, like the emperors children having daemonettes instead of Blood letters and other swappsies.

I think you misunderstand, I'm not asking for a space game

The concept is a bit story-driven, but in short, Hiigara (THE homeworld of the race you play) is occupied by an enemy force (Vaygr) who uses and manipulates the local populace to eventually accept and become part of the occupation. This is consistent with the Homeworld lore to some degree, Hiigara is lost for a time until the Navy heroically plows through the Vagyr occupying fleet with the you (the player in Homeworld) and your fleet of a god ship. What I'd be looking at is to replicate the "untold story" of Hiigara's ground combat, using some lore elements from the game and a few of my own design. It might not be lore-perfect, but no game is to an exact degree. A few concept ideas I had for commanders on both of the 2 races were this:

Hiigaran Resistance (More or less a mix of civilian and scattered military pockets around the planet, fighting a holdout until Hiigaran fleets arrive with reinforcements, scattered fleet elements still exist).

    Reistance Leader (Support)
    Hiigaran Captain (Offense)
    Hiigaran General (Defense)

Vaygr Occupation (A large scale of vehicles and armored infantry, aimed at controlling the entire surface for the fleet):

    Vaygr Warlord (Offense)
    Hiigaran Royal Convert (Teleport?/Support?)
    Vaygr Commissar (lol) (Support?/Defense?)

As I mentioned before, I looking kinda to a conversion, but much of the assets for DoW 2: Ret could be repurposed for the sake of the mod. Example: Plasma gun shots are similar to Plasma bombs shot by Bombers, so it would be plausible to add them as a global "bomber run". Also Vaygr fleets use "Hyperspace Gates" to get around, lacking a real Hyperspace drive on every ship, they must make do with launching conventional drive gates everywhere they need to be. It would be a stretch, but Eldar warpgates could easily be re purposed to be "Checkpoint Gates" for Vaygr to move around in. These are some simple ideas, but as you mentioned before, it'd be nigh impossible to implentment without help. I have a tonnage of ideas for the mod, and would maybe be willing to pickup scripting or map-making to help with the mod ^^ if you have any other questions, lemme know.

I really wanna see mods for the single player campaign, for both the original games and Retribution.

All the ideas, balances, improvements to immersion/realism/combat etc. for multiplayer mods would be great if they worked for single player too. Things like larger squads, more realistic cover mechanics, added realism for weapons, and anything that adds tactical value and depth to units and abilities would make single player a blast again.

I love multiplayer don't get me wrong, but I miss the RPG progression elements of single player where I can continue to earn experience for my squads and make them more powerful. Multiplayer "xp" doesn't reward you with better troops though, and that can't really be fixed cuz that's how multiplayer should play. But any mods that bring great single player additions will be awesome IMO.
