It's Warhammer. Fuck common sense, the universe is built on awesome. Headshotting aliens from long range with a pistol is fucking badass hence its presence in the game.

That could be a pretty fucking cool controller setup actually. I'd probably buy one if that's an Ipad docking station in the center!

I'd rather just get a Roccat Powergrid.

I still don't get the need of putting screens or anything you need to look at on peripheral equipment, with todays big ass screens that practically take up your whole FOV there is neither a need for a screen on a keyboard or any practical reason really.
That said, if you take away the screen thingy (or make it bigger and make it show the entire game) then it looks kinda cool.
*puppies*
A screen on your keyboard hmm, what if your keyboard is the screen hook up via wireless connection to your pc. That could be interesting, you could configure controls in any crazy way :O. Like move the asd keys in a corner of the screen so you can quickly tap them faster. Omg or or playing dow 2 and put all your squad keys in a cluster in the lower left, so tapping 1 2 3 4 would be 5 x times quicker!!! i want one where is it !!?
Oh no body exactly invented that yet..
No qaurter back men, only forward or we will hold this line forever!!!

Well Razer did something similar, but it's an entire laptop and isn't exactly as flexible as one would expect X)

so.. how much does this artemis thing cost and why is it better then a keyboard and joystick?
I've been meaning to make an iOS program that does that...
I want.
No idea where I would put it though.
Love the stick. The keypad thing much less so. The screen we can go ahead and lose right out the starting gate. Hopefully the wireframe concept they show of the stick by itself means they'll sell it by itself, I'd buy that. Although without a throttle it'll be a step down from my current Thrustmaster HOTAS.
Look at the bright side, kid - you get to keep all the money.
I think I'll stick to my old Saitek Cybrorg, thanks. As cool as the controller is, the lack of throttle on the joystick limits its use in other games such as flight sims and the extra screen seems a tad excessive. Also using the mouse to aim is more accurate then using a joystick.
Depends, Busby. From what they've shown it looks like the game has an auto-centering dead-zone in the middle of the screen (the large circle, which is also the torso cone-of-fire reticle). So in order to turn the torso, you have to pull the arm weapons reticle (the little dot) outside of that dead-zone.
This means that while a mouse would certainly be better for finely-tuned precision aiming, on the whole it would probably be gimped by that dead-zone. Like RTS edge-scrolling, but with mouse cursor auto-centre.
Wing Commander Prophecy had a similar way of turning when using a mouse. The further from the center of the screen the cursor got, the more you turned. Also possible to do in FS2_Open. Takes a while to get used to, but works quite well when you do.
One assumes there'll be control options for how your torso moves in relation to your arms. I'm actually pretty sure you have to use free look to move your arm crosshair independently of your torso. The arms just respond and turn quicker.
Oh, I'm certain there will be an option to lock your torso and move only your arms. What I described, though, was what it seems that we have been shown, with the arms and torso still slaved together.
And I'm certain it will work fine, but it was clearly designed as an attempt to level the playing field by limiting the mouse to the level of a joystick. At this point, it becomes simply aesthetically more pleasant to use a joystick to be able to maintain a constant rate of torso twist (especially on a 360-degree torso twist Mech). Because with a mouse, you'd have to keep lifting the mouse up, moving it to the opposite side of the pad, putting it down, scrolling across, rinse and repeat.
I think i just found what mech ill be playing in![]()
Mech 12: Stalker
From the Sarna page it houses 2 LRMs, 2 SRMs, 2 Large Lasers and 4 Med. Lasers... so a giant Cat. essentially xD (http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Stalker)
Massive improvement over the TRO concept.
While most people were expecting an Assault mech in the 85 - 90t range, I must admit I was hoping the community'd be wrong and we'd get a Marauder. Though I am glad it's the Stalker we got, rather than yet another humanoid mech.

By giant Cat, I assume you mean slightly smaller nonclan cat mk2? (Or slightly bigger mad cat without any of the actual good things from it).
Also I'm waiting for either awesome or Marauder before I classify myself as a heavy/assault class pilot. I'm still finding Raven appealing as a personal mech since most likely light's will be under utilized.
Then again... Hunchback II... Me want... Me want to paint it green and name it Hulk...
Edit: Actually I do really want urbie or an actual fast light mech before the launch. As much as I'd love Marauder or some other actual proper assault/heavy mech the fact that a medium mech is the fastest on the field is kinda worrying in terms of light mech viability.

Wasn't the Hunchback II supposed to be a deathtrap or something ? I recall reading it had cardboard armor.

Oh fair enough. Tho Longbow is lovely step up from a catapult, can't wait for them to bring it.
And yes Hunchback II was a 50 ton mech with 30 tons only in AC20's... Some survivability issues for some unknown reason...Originally Posted by Sarna

Err yes, my bad. I did mean JagerMech not Awesome.
Thanks Aesaar for pointing it out.

Yeah, Magus and I had both considered it as a possibility, cause if you take a look at the rest of the assaults, most of them are either jokes (Charger) or have serious role overlap with the other announced Mechs (your Yeoman, for example, is Catapult Sr). Although we both pegged the heavy Orion as more likely for next Mech. Him out of love for it, me because I feel it fills a role that nothing else does to a satisfactory extent at the moment, which is to say a heavy-vs-heavy hunter-killer Mech-of-the-line. Without a Warhammer, this role will never be truly filled, but an Orion can come pretty close.
The Stalker is great and fills a good role as a close support assault, which nothing else does yet, so I'm glad it made it in. I'm also glad FD's design was able to redeem the original TRO one...

I am loving that Stalker picture, always liked the mech but now it looks as badass as it really is.
Not a fan of the Marauder, Hammerhands, Ceasar, Cataphract and/or Battleaxe then I take it? Unlike the warhammer some of them even have armour and jumpjets to go with their PPC's and Gauss....which is to say a heavy-vs-heavy hunter-killer Mech-of-the-line. Without a Warhammer, this role will never be truly filled...
Unfortunately, I think the Cataphract is basically going to fill the role, yeah. My issue here is that the primary Cataphract offers less stand-off potential. An Orion is similarly armed to the primary Cataphract but has a bit more armour, and with a few missiles to rely on gives you a few more options than simply direct-fire. If I had to pick one to fight in closer ranges with, I'd pick the one with more staying power. Also, the Cataphract variant shown in the concept art, the 1X, although mounting a nice little headchopper, sacrifices your beloved jump jets.
Since the ones not being included are all hypothetical, we're going with primary variants, right? The Battleaxe and Hammerhands are both diet Warhammers. The Hammerhands has AC/10s instead of PPCs, and that's not a headchopper. The Battleaxe would not only have problems defending itself close-in, but it's also a tiny bit more lightly armoured.
The Caesar, I must admit, never occurred to me, and though it is pretty comparable, I doubt we'd see it included alongside the Cataphract since it shares a similar silhouette.
The Marauder I discounted immediately because just like the Warhammer, its status as Unseen/Reseen makes its inclusion questionable.

Don't just stand there. The whole thing is a STALKER referance.

Is it just me, or are the mechs without arms more visually appealing.

[04:36] <Afoxi> You know how MWO has an NDA?
[04:37] <Afoxi> My latest hobby these days is going around the forums quoting anyone who manages to slip that they are in and telling them to delete their post.
[04:37] <Afoxi> Of course, the important part is that I quoted them.
Just thought I'd leave this here.![]()
I don't think saying you're in the beta is a breach of NDA. Saying what you do in the beta however is :P
Nope. Its against the NDA to say your in it..... or so i've been.. umm.. told.. :P

From what I've heard () it goes like this:
You get an email saying you are in.
You read the NDA.
You sign the NDA.
Now you are so excited you tell everyone you are in because the NDA doesn't say you can't do that.
Then you are redirected to a page that says a bunch of stuff like welcome and don't talk about the game outside the forums, and right in the bottom it mentions you shouldn't tell anyone you are in the CB.
You say "D'Oh" out loud.

So, hypothetically speaking, if you were in the closed beta, how good would the game be?
On thing i'm liking the looks of from the previews is that you can keep an LRM lock on somone while pointing your weapons at somone tottally diffrent. That was the main reason in MW4 that boat builds and "all one range" builds came about. You couldn't mix diffrent types. Hopefully they've provided some kind of similar feature for other weapon, an arm auto aim tha only works above a certian rnage should do the trick).
Also of the mechs not in which ones do you want the most?
or me my most missed mechs wil probably be the gladiator and the bushwacker. Both where fvirotes in their class for me.
ANyone know when LBX ammo is likliy to be made avalibile to us btw, also what about ultra AC's, what year did they come in? I personoly loved Ultra AC20's and LBX's in MW4.
I don't know what i'm talking about, ignore me.
Thousands of years ago, Egyptians worshipped what would become our ordinary housecat. The cats have never forgotten this.

I'd say it would likely be very similar to the awesome videos that have been posted by IGN and other sites. But i could be wrong.. as im not in the beta..So, hypothetically speaking, if you were in the closed beta, how good would the game be?

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/LBX_Autocannon
A time period weapon developed by innersphere, I see no reason not to have it included. It, from my limited understanding, is not even all that rare of a weapon.
And yes I'm talking about AC-LBX 10, rest of the series should come with the clan wars.
Carl, for UACs, you'll have to salvage them from Clan warriors, or wait until 3057 (2020) for IS versions.
Sohtaraz, if you read your link again, you'll see that the situation is the same with the LBX. The LBX/10 specifically is Lostech until 3055 (2018), unless salvaged from Clanners. The rest came even later than that.
As for LRM lock-on, from what I understood is that is an ability you get from modules/having a scout provide you with targeting info, not a default feature of every Mech. I really hope that you can't just lock onto an enemy and then run around all over the place, maintaining solid lock on the dude. As in previous titles, I hope you lose radar lock once you allow the target to move too far off-boresight.
As for my most anticipated Mech, it has to be the Raven. The Gladiator might still make it in when the Clans pop up. You'll still be waiting a few years for the Bushie, though.
@ramrod: from what i could make out of the video where i first noticed it, (the assualt spec one at ign), it appears if the target goes outside the arc of fire you lose it. However the ign vids are so low rez it's hard to tell what they're doing to get the lock on in the first place. Remeber they're getting locks with intervening terrain in the way thanks to scout data so it's possibble you can lock onto anything inside the min/max range bands and fire arc without putting you recitle near the target. I actually like that thought. The whole problem with missiles in MW4 was that you had to select the target then keep your cursour over the target the whole time to keep a lock. That meant if your piloting somthing like the defualt atlas fit, (in the video, 6 medium lasers, 1AC-20, 1SRM6, 1LRM15), you where often wasting copious amounts of weaponry not shooting. That or you where usign the lrm's from so close you'd be beter off with SRM's.
I also like the pacing looks lie even the mediums move slow enough reletive to weapons velocity that it's more a case of getting dumbfire weapons to hit the spot you want than fighting to keep your rounds on target at all vs a fast moving mech.

1) You select a target.
1a) If a scout mech has TAG, you will be able to do this without LOS
1b) ditto if target has NARC beacon attached to it.
2) Keep crosshair vaguely close to the target "box"
3) Twiddle thumbs while waiting for lock.
4) What to do if you hear Lock On
