Day Z - Zombies + ARMA2? Yes please.

    Has this ever been raised in the DayZ forums? (too lazy to check ) I would love to use any open-topped vehicle as a mobile platform.
    We look to the heavens so that one day our children may look back towards home.

    Encountered a hacker last night... twice.

    First time, me and a mate were happily walking running through fields and the hacker appears out of nowhere, fires 200 bullets from his M16 (really, it was far longer than what the clip should hold). His aim was so terrible all he managed to do was break my legs while my mate just bolted. He said that the hacker than appeared next to him and empty another crazy round of bullets into him before he died. I was laying down quietly in a bush while all this was happening, then Mr. Hacker magically finds me (my sight was 0) and empties 100 bullets into my skull.

    Now, at first we though you know; could have been a player who was just waiting there for others (even though we were no where near any towns, buildings or any areas of interest) so we both respawned and attempted to play again. So I spawn, and am waiting by the road for my buddy to figure out where he was so we can meet up, when another guy with an M16 magically shows up and kills me instantly, (fair enough, I thought, not putting 2 and 2 together). Then my buddy announces that another player just appeared in front of him, and now he's frozen on the spot (couldn't even open the menu) then suddenly he was a cow; after a few laughs I respawned in and was busy raiding a town. When the same M16 man finds me magically (we figured out we were at least 15-30 kilometers away from each other, so no way he could have got to me that fast) and freezes me, then proceeds to spawn a zombie in me.

    I hadn't noticed at the time but a LOT of players were dying on the server. I couldn't even spot the players name to request a ban

    Not being able to shoot out of vehicles is just a limitation in arma 2, its implemented in Arma 3 though

    Do you guys play in the same server/TS all the time? I wandered through bleak landscapes for two hours last night, all alone in the dark and can't help but think that this game must be way better with some friends.

    Following the loss of the truck and my death at the hands of an unknown assailant, Julian and I were wondering whether we should decide to cut our losses and try finding a better server that doesn't lag like a bitch. Its not like we won't be able to return to it in the future if we want.

    Also, following my death I went through electro and am now on Dobryy with and Ak74. Meanwhile, Julian has massively trumped this with nightvision goggles and an FN FAL with nightvision scope.

    I too fell to this (these?) unknown asaillant(s). Sniped good and proper by the bus they had left. Respawned twice and am now on the Dolt Isle to grab some stuff anew. Will join you back on Dobry.

    Dolts may virtuadie but they never surrender!


    EDIT: Noble: pretty much, yeah. Given a lot of us are EU, you might know some lag/ping issues. If you're not too afraid of it, join FR16 and log in on mumble, usually finding us in Get a Room or 101.

    Waiting for Pac to edit and post the vid(s) of our awesome adventure now...

    The short of it, i found a camp while hopping servers in which 5 or 6 tents contained a real armoury of the highest tier weapons and gear. Goes without saying, we helped ourselves without any scruple. Meanwhile, Jules had found a heli spawn and needed parts which the camp obligingly provided. A few server hops to carry the gear over left us with an almost new chopper which we used to pick Kresjah inlands (and fix a few windshields) and refuel massively.

    Aaaaand today saw us zooming around again, with a good few deaths paving the way, some due to unlucky glitches, sheer key-handling clumsiness, bad luck or again empirical experimentation, (viz. Penguin leaping off the chopper to see how death occurred under our avid gaze...)


    Found a PBX? Pfah, small fry, we dropped it not long after using it for a raid on some docks covered by the eyes in the sky.


    And yes, we also play Lazer-Tag sometimes in the woods...


    Finally, a few cinematic shots just cos we can!


    Yes, Penguin can also work something of a nice helipad lighting with a few campfires... he's not only a crazy flare-wielder that will get us all killed at some point. :P

    Not all of us, alas. We lost some while translating servers but we'll find others, i'm sure of that. As to the chopper, it's really a great tool for lightning raids and extractions as well as for picking up fresh respawns to get them to their gear before it despawns.

    ...in the same brushwood patch!

    So, here we were, gathering a few more dolts to venture over Cherna and do some heli-groceries (i can't help but think we're not raiding anymore :P) when someone spotted a suspicious vale. Lo and behold! A fuckload of vehicles parked around a single tent which we hurried to check while Pac was providing 10,000W illumination from the skies. Seeing as they were almost all in running order, we decided to each pick one, from push bikes to buses and started the most awesome convoy ever, in pitch black night interspersed with trees galore for those who had nothing but their headlights to drive by. Goes without saying the feeling of exhilaration was huge and things turned sometimes to comedy (80-ish km/h push bike ride in thick forest? No fear!).
    After a while, we decided to either ditch the most useless vehs or wreck them (as Julian proved by making fireworks out of a car).

    We now have the most useful of the lot parked in various discreet places for easy pick, thusly providing us with much more than just simple transportation (hell, mobile armoury sounds good, doesn't it? )

    And yes, tractors... They're bloody impressive beasts of off-road travelling! I'll have one over any street vehicle in DayZ, thank you.

    Once again, quality Chopper shots there :P
    I'm having big problems finding any vehicles at the spawn points. Checked on on map for location and travelled but no joy
    I understand there is a limit and a spawn cycle for them but looks like someone has nabbed them 1st - could be you guys lol. I hear also that some people save them off map to retain them better

    What server do you guys mainly play in?. Would be good to see you. Please remember I am friendly - name is Marmoo in game as well

    Well, the thing is, a good few server admins have had a tendency to hog the vehicles and place/hide them in remote locations (in response to which some have effected nice punishments ^^). And even in the contrary, chances are that most vehicles would already have been in use and therefore moved away from the spawn points. Still, luck can be on anyone's side from time to time, as we experienced recently. One thing however, servers that play night time in your real world time-zone night time will offer more chances to find vehicles than inverted time servers, since the prospect of venturing at night over Cherna has been a major put off since the gamma fix.
    As to the saving vehs off map, i think there has been a fix that despawns them and therefore prevents any hogging in far west/north parts.

    Jumped on IRC earlier and saw you guys chating after I returned after shutting down DayZ - not really sure how it all works - Does it work like Teamspeak or it is typed chat only

    Noticed you were chatting about the drop in fuel for the chopper - is it a leak or is it just server issue?

    marmoo, if you want to chat on IRC you have to type. And remain longer. :P
    If you want to voice-chat, use mumble while being in game.
    As to the chopper fuel issue, no idea. Nothing should have caused a leak but this might be a buggy issue due to a server restart. We'll have to check later.

    I think you can use six-installer or summat. Still, doing it manually takes little time and prevents some unwanted buggy updates... Have you checked Opel's installation guide? (follow method #2 since the beta patch is now mandatory)

    Used Six Updater to install Mod..easiest thing I did

    And Launcher works well also. Not a moments problem with either

    EDIT

    I speak too soon...
    It would appear Battle Eye has had some form of update and some, along with myself are experiencing a few problems
    Log into server via Six Launcher
    Jumps you into lobby but get the message at the bottom left of screen

    Battleye Client: initialized (v1.164.)
    Battleye Client: Server Requiring v 1.167. Updating...
    then a few moments later
    Battleye Client: Could not connect to BE Master
    Battleye Client: update attempt failed

    Lets me enter game but then get kicked after about 4 mins

    Attempted fix last night of manually downloading dll files(both client and server) from website and replacing my existing dll files within Battle Eye folder but last night it did not work but I must admit I forgot to restart computer after doing this, but instructions do not insist you do

    Gonna see what it is like this morning so will post back if anyone having same problem

    If you are running game via Steam

    Uninstall Battle Eye within program files

    Then reinstall via Steam

    Simple really

    Artifacts removal (pending 1.7.2.5)

    Potential temporary solution (or easing) to the awful glitches/artifacts you encounter in crucial places (e.g. milcamps & airfields): press Left Shift and Numpad minus, then type 'flush'. It'll flush your gfx card memory and more often than not get you rid of those artifacts. Do note, however, that it has sometimes been known to worsen them. If so, retry.

    awww man....those graphic glitches are awful
    Airfield's are the worst as it has been linked to dead solider corpse's on the ground although I do find from time to time Cherno has a few graphic glitches as well

    Think developer is rushing through the next patch to try and fix

    Going to be interesting to see this turns out. At this stage I'll happily be an early adopter, there is a lot to like about the concept of the game. The main negative at this point, as with a lot of multiplayer games, is the player base.

    I just experienced my first hackers this morning, I logged on quickly to try to get a handle on the server time. Ended up doing a quick raid of the local town before getting teleported to the 'Faildome' (or something like that). There was only one other person on the server at the time so I quit out and tried another server. Ended up in the same place (off map to the NW) with no obvious exit so decided to frag myself and start afresh. Mildly annoyed but at the moment I quess this is just part of the game.

    4) Return the 'texture settings' and 'video memory' back to the default values.
    5) Flush once more.
    6) Restart the game.

    It is a lengthy process and probably has redundencies, but the curious thing about that method is I've been without artifacts for the past 2.5 days.

    Here's a little travelogue I've been working on. I think though, from here on out I'm gonna develop a story and personality for my surv rather than just just say, "Blah blah went to point A then to point B, blah blah."

    Well that was an eventful evening

    A small warning to other survivors, if you get sick Lleman will shoot you (usually within the next few hours if he doesn't do it straight away ). I probably deserved it to be honest, skinny dipping in Russia in the middle of the night isn't the smartest thing to do, neither is infecting a few other members of our group forcing us to break into two smaller groups of infected and uninfected Those coughs plagued us for sometime even after I realised you could cure it by just disconnecting.

    Figured I'd post and link this after Kres we destroyed a car full of hacked items where the chopper used to be, should keep them for ourselves in future.

    PS. I think the hackers name is "Mike", I just took him out from the ground with an AS50. May not be him though because I found a chopper randomly earlier.

    This rumour has no basis to it whatsoever.

    Using a hacked vehicle/weapon will identify you during database analysis, and your character may receive special logging attention in the database, but you will not receive a ban without creating them yourself.

    EDIT: having looked over the other threads it seems you can be locally banned for having such items, hmm might be best to leave em unless they're really good or found ingame anyway.

    Better safe than sorry. Our group's unwritten policy was so far to leave (and perhaps destroy, as with the suspicious Ural's contents) anything that's not listed as being dayz contents. Now, we don't mind taking suspiciously duplicated items, that's another story (and it served us well tbh, re. NVGs and special weaps).

    What was in the ural anyway if I might ask? Some items are generally so rare that most people think they are illegitimate when they are spawns (eg. soilder camo, infared AS50, sachel charges/pipe bombs etc.)

    On another note I saw something pretty interesting in a number of threads about vehicle and tents disappearing on server restart and it appears to just be a bug with Dayz, its not the particular servers fault. Found a few server threads showing tickets they'd got back after similar incidents, on the plus side the vehicles and tents do seem to randomly reappear a lot.

    Believe me, weapons that belong the arma series but aren't listed in the dayz list aren't 'normal' weaps. And who's so anal-retentive as to have 10 of each weapon, 30 of each magazine, and round numbers of each other item? Anyway, old story, the truck and attendant milveh are now ashes.

    You're doing nothing wrong, you're doing everything right.

    Guns should be used more when your traveling between locations, just in case you spot another player. The hatchet works better at killing zombies because it doesn't aggro the whole towns worth due tot he noise.

    Unless you have an SD weapon but then ammo becomes an issue.

    I think whenever Nova and Carrot are on next I might head down to the coast to pick them up, we spent yesterday roving around in a group while it sounded like you two died a few times to the zombie horde.
