Mr.Carrot: my strategy is usually find a low noise weapon (pistols are a good choice) then spot the location I want while I am still outside the town. The next step requires some faith in your ability to score headshots: Sprint into the building and be ready to finish off the zombies that decided to follow you into your target building. You also have to anticipate the little buggers to glitch through walls, so I would sugest you stay in the center of whatever your target building is.

I employ that tactic as well Pook, but usually with a Axe Much easier than just sneaking around.

  3. #453
When I'm alone I sneak around. When I'm with friends we burn through bullets just cause we can.

What's the point of having a gun if you're not gonna shoot it?

(and I'm too lazy to hunt players)

I should be able to get a bit of dayZ in tonight. It'll be the first time in 2 weeks!
When in doubt, use chemical sedatives.

Finally got to Stary Sobor. Broke my ATV, but picked up a coyote backpack, 249 and a m14 AIM from a heli crash site on the way. Wooh. Sadly, I only have one mag of DMR ammo and none for the 249.. Probably going to hit the airfield this weekend if this one m9 mag lasts..

Hopefully Rocket allows servers to use this map.

Don't think Rocket and the team are happy about it. Obviously like Rocket, this modder was fine to use the ARMA 2 engine but think a bit of direct modding theft has happened here

Right, so, to anyone feeling like driving a UAZ and thinking "I'm cool, bros, riding easy, lookit! no hands ma' !", let me give you a wise advice: never, ever, brush, graze, or slightly bump into a corrugated bus-stop, even at slow speed. I happened to vaguely ding one at 5 kph last night, with my passengers trusting in the resilience of that car. What happened is that the initial percussion sent us all in shock (i think someone even got broken bones), then the engine went red. Upon trying to restart the UAZ, it simply exploded beneath our arses. Goes without saying, this 1) left us maimed and bleeding heavily 2) brought all the Zs in the vicinity to feed on our baked bodies.

Let that be an example, kids! Bus-stops are evil!
We look to the heavens so that one day our children may look back towards home.

This is quite a thrilling mod I must say. I haven't played ARMA 2 for a couple of years, but a friend of mine had this on his PC so I tried it out. Died in the first twelve minutes.

Anyway, I hear some people are pissed off due the frequent hacking that's been occurring on the servers.

@Godlike_Power Yesh there have been some hacking issues. The more notable are the good old "all players transported to one area of the map", but there is also the more subtle, "Vehicle full of guns which do not belong in the game."
Also yeah, SUV's are liable to explode in Day Z. Carry a lot of bandages, morphine, and epi-pens, children because if you crash, you'll need them x)

I don't see why they wouldn't be happy with it, any more attention for the games is good. Players are starting to get bored with the current map; having multiples would make the game more interesting.

They don't like because it's apparently leaching valuable beta testers from the main game to a mod with servers or hives they cannot monitor.

The map is so much better than Snorenarus for me, I'm getting bored of the airfield infiltration simulation. There are small military camps dotted all over the place and all of the houses in villages are open so I've actually spent my time, sneaking past zombies, ya'know? Rather than sneak into big airfield, go to barracks building, sneak out, then stock up on food at nearest 2-story barn.

If that's one thing they should take from war z its multiple maps, the added variation can't be anything but a plus to the game and it'll keep people playing for longer.

A word of warning during a recent banning wave on battle-eye a good few legit players were banned, its been guessed that one of the reasons might have been the use of the Lingor map and the custom player characters you can get, so just a heads up for that.

I thought the accidental banning was due to legit players picking up hacked weapons off of hackers corpses.

I could use some of that stuff :3

Is the problem with the loot the duplication of items that is happening currently with tents?

Nope I don't think we have any items we've duped ourselves really, apart from an L85 or two that happened when a few of us got moved to the coast and left lootable bodies. Most of the stuff is just from constant raids across the map I think, got more guns than we could use

Still wish my DMR would re-appear, stupid tent seems to have eaten it for no reason. Shall have to hunt for another I think. Hitting up Veybor (?) to zelengorsk (?) tomorrow, could do with a lift back if possible, though I can problary hoof it myself.

We also need to find out where that chopper is hidden on the server, I might try and drive out of the map then skirt the border at some point in hopes that I'll find it. Was it Cage that said it was heading north-west from the airfield?

There's only a finite number of places out there, shouldn't be too hard to find where its being stored. unless its off in the void that is the outer map area.

    EDIT:

Just found this made me chuckle: http://www.gametracker.com/server_in...8.232.13:2302/

    Pook your number 1 apparently

I love to see that the #1 player on that server is a Dolt and that the player with the most time played on it isn't from the server-based clan but is another Dolt too. ^^

Ewokz: it was Pook who had a visual on that chopper on the NW fringe of the map. IIRC he took a shot at it (was it with the AS50?) but sadly missed it. I'll also try to be around in the afternoon to help you leg it to some places of loot. (mind you, we have an M14 to 'replace' the DMR...)

EDIT: a coupla screenshots from the past two days:

    Good news Lleman

Figured I'd post this for anyone interested as it allowed me to back date my beta patch and dayz version yesterday, its quick and simple so I'd recommend you use it when you need to update to builds other than the current.

I got gunned down whilst on my bike the other day , in a forest in the middle of nowhere after I'd been riding around rather recklessly in the open with attracting any noticeable attention. The bike had been a handy find as I had broken my leg - obviously not as handy a find as morphine would have been buy hey, you take what you can get.

Lesson of the day: ATVs aren't don't like even little bumps and certainly haven't been designed to fly (or at least land afterwards).

    I believed i could drive...

...then the rescue team made me believe i could fly...

Luckily this little aerial trip didn't kill me, even though this was a close shave.

I gave up on DayZ, too much hacking these days and everyone you see is running around in Gillie suits with high-powered sniper rifles. So much for counting the bullets in your gun and scraping to survive.

For all the complaining by the community I have seen very little of both hackers and AS50, ghillie suited guys. Guess its because I haven't been at the coast on busy servers?

Some servers also seem to attract more hackers than others, go figure... :/

I was certain that tractor was gonna kill me! Look at it... so smug. I die from really derpy things, falling off buildings, getting run over by tractors, slipping on ice cubes. I am the Kenny of Dolts.

So, here's some fun things I do to play DayZ. First up is my autorun program, it's opensource if you want to build on it

    Spoiler

Because my FPS sucked in DayZ, I had to overclock. However, now that my lovely 750Mhz GPU is running at 900Mhz, it derps because it gets too hot. Below is the efficient cooling system I engineered myself.

So when DayZ first started getting popular I downright refused to shell out money to buy a game to play a mod.

But the more DayZ videos I watch on YT the more I'm tempted to play it. Can currently get Arma II CO for £20 and I'm veeery tempted...

@Cable. DayZ seems to have cooled off a bit and the hype has for the most part faded, returning the mod back to a less-hackerly zombie sim. I would hazard to say that the DayZ community is mellowing out from what it was a month and a half ago. I checked the website on the matter and I reckon that in another month's time the "Players in Last 24hr's" o' meter will be something around 50,000.

Bearing that in mind, the standalone release date is pretty close, but expect that to be buggy. If you can't wait for that release or are worried about the bugs, I would go ahead and buy ARMA II and DayZ (which has its fair share of bugs anyway, but is quite playable.).

  39. #489
Personally, i've enjoyed both ARMA II and DayZ. Whilst not playing a huge amount of DayZ, i've spent enough time screwing around in armex (a mission in ARMA II) to make it worth my money. Although, if anybody knows of an ARMA II mod that puts red boxes around enemy players, let me know. 99% of the time I die because i dont' see the enemy.

Arma: CO has finished downloading and I'm now in the process of installing DayZ. Is there a European server that Relicdolts play on? I'd rather find out first as I'm planning adopting paranoia on an Eve Online scale and shooting all players on sight, regardless of if they're shouting "Friendly!" at me.

We play on DayZ - UK VI (1.7.2.6/96754) (Veteran|3D:ON|CH:OFF) dayzmod.com - Dolt Playground!
So that's the server name 1.7.2.6 is the DayZ version we use.
96754 is the Arma 2 beta patch. 96895 is the version I am running to play on the server.
We have a camp hidden in there, but I figure you should get paranoid first.
There is also a DayZ room in irc called #dayz.

Figure I'd beter post this again as its the easiest way to install the correct beta patch and the correct dayz version. It makes it one hell of a lot easier to jump between versions, or to install outdated ones.

It also has the added bonus of Lingor island if you want to download that and try it out, ever.

So as some of you may know we actually have a Dolt DayZ server (hop onto the #DayZ channel on hwcommunity irc for info). What you may not know is that it was hit by hackers one night who managed to load every single vehicle on the map into a single point, Luckily I was recording so I present to you... "What happens when Hackers find your DayZ server"

Also a fine example of what happens when you push Physics a bit too far in this game, and how hysterical Dolts get at 3am
