Bootmgr missing and backing up HDD Question

Hello everyone. So i ran into some trouble last night, i was installing some recommended drivers/ updates for my PC using MSI Live Update 5. There was an option called, Total Installer which i assumed downloaded and installed all the given updates that were listed. So i ran it, and came back to my computer later in the night and there was a message saying that bootmgr was missing and that i had to ctl+alt+del to restart and all that. I tried that, and it did nothing. This morning i tried to repair it using my Windows 7 disc and the startup repair option, which i had read should normally fix the problem, but it didnt. Now in addition to trying that, i have tried to boot my computer directly from my SSD which is where Windows is currently installed, and it will begin to start up in the sense that the animation starts, but then a blue screen flashes for a split second and then restarts the computer and it will ask if i want to repair or start normally (like it will typically do, when it doesnt shut down properly). I have also tried to see if choosing the restore from a previous session would work, and again it doesnt. As a result ive run out of things to try.

Now my current plan is to just reinstall W7 as i dont know what else to try, BUT i would really like to try and save whats on my other hard drive as i havent backed it up in a while (ironically it was on my to-do list for the weekend T.T) and would be losing a lot of school work from my previous semester.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to either, get my computer to start up again or how to backup my hard drive to another one (as in an external one) at this point?

    My system specs are:

    Mobo: MSI P67A GD65 B3
CPU: Intel core i5 2500k 3.3GHz Sandy Bridge
    GPU: Nvidea Geforce GTX560 TI
    PSU: XFX Pro650W
    RAM: Mushkin Silverline Stiletto 8GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda - 1TB (i think it was 7200RPM)
    SSD: OCZ- Agility 3 - 120GB
Network Card: ASUS PCE-N13 Network Card
Sound Card: Diamond Xtreme Sound 7.1 Channel 24Bit 96
Running Windows Home Premium 7 64-bit

    Thanks for the help!!

You could try to boot a linux distro and save your data before going all Rambo and reinstalling

Wait, do you have two hard drives? You mentioned an SSD, and then your listed TB one. If Windows is installed on your SSD, and all your data is on the other one then you could just re-install Windows on the SSD (you can remove your data hard drive from your computer first just in case).

K so i reinstalled W7 on the SSD and it seems to be running fine again : ) Thanks for the help! I was hesitant to reinstall it initially, since when ive installed new OSes before ive always had to wipe everything first, so was scared that i would lose it all.
