Conquest 2 Vyrium Uprising - RTS fans unite ! On Kickstarter

Nice video... they want to do a AAA game and are looking for $675,000. It is the original dev team for Conquest.
For me unless their is Z axis and a lot of other improvements it is hard to pledge.
I remember the original campaign being a lot of fun and liked the wormhole arrangements.

Medieval Real Time, Mount and Blade style Historical Combat.

the last 10 secs of the video....made me angry.. very angry.!

damn these consoles... (consoles = casual players) that's why we don't get decent quality games (and i mean PC games of course) nowadays.

    yes.!

have you tried games from mega companies like EA... today's PC games (well majority of them) are just cheaply ported Xbox versions... that means loads of "unsolvable" bugs and problems.

It's sad that the first game didn't get any support from Ubisoft at all. Not even a small marketing campaign. It still managed to sell over 300k and has survived due the fans still playing/modding it. As a fellow rts gamer I highly recommend you all to at least go to the kickstarter page and learn about it(and hopefully support the war)

    Thank you.

One other thing... Isn't this thread in the wrong sub-forum?

This forum is not so active, so it's ok. I check this game then. I heard that it has supply lines, and "more strategic depth". What does it mean? Are you a developer?

No, I'm not one of the developers, just a fan. But I have stayed in contact with them ever since before the first one was released.

Yes, Conquest features supply lines and supplies for your ships, if you want them to stay on fighting.

The way supply lines works is that you have a main HQ and it powers every building that you have. Now say you wanna expand into other systems? You have 2 opotions, either you build a jumpgate on the wormhole or you build anothere HQ(expensive!) in the other system you are expanding to.

Now that you are connected through the jumpgate you can build more refineries, shipyyards, supplydepot and etc.
But if I sneak in and destroy that jumpgate that is connected to the homesystem. All your buildings that was not in your homesystem powers down and thereby leaving your very vunerable. Jumpgates also block passage for enemy ships, so you don't have that annoying 'enemy tiny force attacking your workers while you are rolling him/her over. Unless he/she destroyes it, but you get an early warning in that case.

This gives an extra strategic option.

Then there are supplies for your ships, ammo. You either bring supply ships with you, that will return to the nearst supply depot to resupply and return to the fleet it was assigned to. Or your ships stays in the vicinity of a supply depot.

All of this adds so much strategy and tactics to the game without being an annoyence.

The game is about 50% done and they are gonna use the fund to beef it up to 2012 standards. Even so, they plan on releasing CQ1 on steam with minor upgraded graphics as well.

Here is an old CQ2 trailer from 2004. About 30 secs in you start to see some gameplay footage.

Maybe I should make a new thread under "General discussion" to give it more exposure.

What do you think why is the lack of interest in this game?

Is there so few Space RTS fan out there?

The first game was developed at Digital Anvil, a company founded by Chris Roberts, the creator of Wing Commander.

Microsoft bought Digital Anvil later on and didn't want Conquest in the deal. So the team was allowed to found a new publisher, which became Ubisoft. But Ubisoft never supported it, no marketing at all, they all saw it as a quick buck. THe game still managed to sell over 300k, through the fans word of mouth.

Rigth now CQ2 Vyrium Uprising is only getting exposure on Kickstarter. And not everyone is looking. We contacting different gaming media's.
    But to qoute Eric Peterson(Producer)

"We want it to succeed to, and have been pounding the media outlets, but because our team is not famous, they are not really interested, YET !

We will keep trying, but for now, we need everyone to hit up all their friends and help spread the word.

    Thanks !

    Team PZ"

It's pretty impressive. We should somehow mobilize this community. There must be a lot of people who like space RTS, but there aren't much going on in the forums.

I say, we should try and have this thread moved to the "General discussion" or I make a new one there. To give it more exposure.

Remember that Conquest was released in the days before 'social media' or digital download platforms.

No marketing = no exposure = no shelve space = amazing the game even went on to sell 300k

The amount of development hell Conquest and now this Conquest 2 were going through is staggering. You could make a documentary; it would highlight all the wrongs with the video game industry, involve the swedish mafia, several corporate takovers and hilariously bad (upper-)management. For example, if you thought the whole N-Cage thing was hilarious, check out the story around Gizmondo

Kilrathisoldier summed up pretty well why it was a pretty cool game, even disregarding the space-theme. I just want to mention that CFW had a pretty good campaign and backstory too. It had an almost Lovecraftian feel to it; humanity's first baby steps into space exploration went a little like this.

Multiplayer was great, it made me fall in love with playing RTS in MP. It ruined games like SC2 and HW(2) for me, at least the online parts.

I had some problems with the game though:

    - You didn't have the more modern formation-movement you get in recent games like supreme commander or SC2, so you had your screening support frigates rush headlong into combat if you didn't micro.
    - They added some stuff like higher popcap and more randomizer options which, although great, ruined the game balance in certain big map + big resources + high popcap situations. Suddenly, people online only wanted to play those 300cp high resources games. You see the same in CoH where suddenly everyone is playing the Scheldt as artillery brit.

Apparently those were getting fixed in an expansion. That expansion was of course cancelled by Ubisoft. It was turned into a full game project for the company, which became Conquest 2, while they did other small games on the side to keep getting money in.
