Subpar framerates with GTX 580 SLI

I'm running into a very confusing issue. I have SLI'd GTX 580s. These should be able to flawlessly run COH on max settings... but I'm not even getting 60Hz at the MENU. (My monitor is 120Hz)

I am running Nvidia's 296.1 drivers, as their latest drivers (released today, 5-22-12) caused me to have several BSOD issues. I recently upgraded my whole PC, but before I was running 8800GTS in SLI and I could at least get 120 frames at the menu. I'm trying to run it in windowed mode as well... but I can't seem to find a way to make that happen. There are no errors or actual problems, I'm simply very dissatisfied with my framerates. There's no reason I shouldn't be able to achieve 120 frames at all times. Here's the DxDiag... I already performed the Selective Startup from MSConfig as well.

For reference, I can run Metro 2033 at framerates above 60, and that game is far more taxing than COH. I'm in the process of re-installing all of them right now... I'll get the rest of the files posted within the hour.

I ran another performance test with all settings maxed:

Minimum Framerate: 17 fps
Maximum Framerate 52.9 fps
Average Framerate: 49.2 fps

Like I said... this doesn't make sense.

Three things.

First, it sounds like you have vsync enabled, which will cap your framerate to 60. To disable it, right click on your .exe icon and add -novsync behind the target "C:Program Files (x86)\THQ\CoH" -novsync. Make sure to add the space between the "

If you are using Steam, right click on your game in the library, select Properties, then Set Launch Options. Add the -novsync there.

Second, windowed mode should still work with Alt Enter, it does with mine. If not, add -window behind the -novsync. Make sure to add a space.

Finally, your DxDiag still shows an 8800GTS. Even if that's in error, hopefully you aren't trying to push two 580s with an old Athlon. That would be some of the biggest bottlenecking ever. There is no way they would reach their potential with that CPU, or even any of the new AMDs. You'd need at least a 2500K.

Okay, created a shortcut, then edited the target line. Added -novsync. Still sub-60fps

Added -window. Ran the performance test again... this time things are more like what they should be:

This only works in windowed mode though... very unusual.

Played around with it... maximized the window (so it went full screen) and I retained 120+ fps. I quit out, then deleted -window from the shortcut, and booted up the game again. Once again, sub-60 fps... I guess the game isn't going to run 120Hz with full screen native. If I start it in windowed mode, and then switch to full screen mode from the window, it retains the 120+ fps. If I just boot it up straight to full screen, it won't. Why is this?

Weird. Check your Dx up above. Shows a x64 and an 8800GTS

Anyhow, I'd guess it's a driver issue, especially since I only see one 580 in the Dx you just posted. You might try using the driver install method listed here: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=52502

EDIT: I just saw your last post, that adds more mystery.

I have the closest to latest drivers I can get without actually getting 304.42 (as it has serious issues with SLI right now)

They're in SLI though...

A lot of times simply installing new drivers over old ones really jacks things up, especially doing it over and over again. I'll post back if I get any brainstorms.

Well, when I installed 304.42, it was a fresh install. I had just re-installed Windows 7, so there weren't any drivers saved. And even if there were, I always have it do a "clean" install, where it wipes the old drivers.

There have been problems with nVidia cards in SLI and CoH framerates on and off ever since the game came out. I'm not sure nVidia ever got a set of drivers that let SLI cards work properly. One thing that some people found helpful long ago was to turn off post-processing in their CoH Graphics Options.
