New 40k Flyers

Hi everyone,

As the title suggest Games Workshop have just put some new flyers up for advance order which can be seen here. The rules for these models are in the latest White Dwarf. Both the Stormtalon (Space Marine) and the Orks seem to be configureable in either air to ground or air to air setups.

The Ork flyers look brilliant. They capture everything that is Orky and give it wings and a massive engine. Don't really like the Stormtalon very much tbh and the guns on either side of the hull just look plain stupid. Necrons have yet another great looking unit to add to their army.

I will let you know what the rules are like once I aquire the White Dwarf.

I dont like the look of the Stormtalon. It would be much nicer without the big assualt cannon? on the bottom. Doesn't really affect me cause i dont play Marines but...

Ork Bommer looks sufficiently cool.

I can't see the difference between the two variants of the Necron "Night/Doom" Scythe, (on the email i got sent anyway).

Since i doubt any of my group will ever get one of these the looks are the only important thing (besides i'm too new to know whether they'll be any good gameplay wise).

So I'm guessing the Stormtalon is strictly Codecks: Spess Mehrens? Can't use it in Black Templars or Dark Angels?

As for Ork Fightaz I'm guessing this will be a real boon to them, at least from what I'm looking at a distance, I presume it gives them more options to blow up tanks and such which the Orkz sorely lack (having to rely on Deffkoptaz in the past). Either way, more unit options is good for everyone.

Not sure what to think on the model design though, the Orkz one is good, SM looks like a Tonka crossed with a Nod Harpy from C&C and the Necron.. is a croissant with a robot peeking out. Really the Necron should be wired inside the Scythe so it looks more like a Cylon fighter or something.

I like how the Stormtalon looks, its overly armed (oh how i love putting a lot of guns on things), its bulky , and it has a space marine pilot in its cockpit.(that you can literally see ) I wonder how did they find this machine, or was it the Tech priest new design?

They are neat. Yes, even the Stormtalon Gunship. I need 1 of those. Or perhaps 2.

It's Codex Space Marines only (which I think is nice, it means the other codeces aren't cookie cutter copies with added bonuses), but there's no reason you couldn't ask mates nicely to let you use it for BA, etc.

I quite like the look of the Stormtalon. Mostly because I have a Knarloc to convert into a dinosaur, and that may well sit nicely on the curve of it's back...

I rather like the Stormtalon and will likely get on at somepoint. I am however loving those Ork planes!!! Might have to pick a few of those up just because of all the ways you can make them look

The difference is that the Night Scythe (transport) has a wormhole projector mounted on the underbelly where the death ray for the Doom Scythe would normally be.
