    Scions of Guilliman

"All Hail! Lord Rift, Chapter Master of the Scions of Guilliman!"

Afternoon all, just finished this guy who will be the Chapter Master for my new Space Marine Chapter. My plan is to update this thread as i finish each unit, though as i will be buying one unit a month i expect it will take a while. Next unit will be Sevrin Loth and a MkIIB Land Raider with FW Razorback Multi-melta and Ultramarine doors.

    Comments and opinions welcome.

You know im never sure if lots of views and no comments means no-one has anything to ad or the painting gurus aren't online yet?

Probably both. I enjoy the models and the paint work, but I've not painted in years. They look great though and I really can't criticize anything since I don't actually know! But I like hte paint scheme and the overall colour pattern.
"Celtic fans right now sit in silence and watch, and hope that the damage doesn't get any worse from this Graham Carey free kick. Away by Wilson. Teale. Still options waiting in the middle for St. Mirren...OH, AND THEY HAVE ANOTHER ONE! It's stunning! It's absolutely stunning at Hampden park! And it's Steven Thompson, who scores his thirteenth goal of the season, and that might just be the goal that takes St. Mirren into the league cup final!" - 27/01/2013

Thanks, since posting this topic Forge World's newletter came out with their pre-order for the Mark IV Command Set - http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuf...MMAND_SET.html

...and so my plans for what im buying next Friday have shifted slightly, still going to buy Sevrin Loth but instead of Land Raider will be pre-ordering the above and other bits to make a MkIV Command Squad.

It looks pretty spiffy, from what I can see, but the pictures are a bit small to offer detailed commentary...

  6. #6
For whatever reason Photobucket are making the picture smaller than it actually is and so you aren't seeing it as close as it is, however Facebook haven't made it smaller so i can link facebook if you want.

I like the paint scheme a lot, halved paint schemes like this one really look hard to apply but have a great effect.

Perhaps you want to put some extra works on the optics of the gun and the Terminator armour, they look a little bland compared to the rest of the miniature.
Then add some sparks to the power sword and it will be perfect.

Funny thing about the colour scheme is that it's the wrong way round, i wanted the right shoulder pad to be green so i could apply a white ultramarine transfer. Nevermind

What if he give the sword a shiny chrome look, and shine pulsing light through it, would it give the same effect?

Same I do enjoy the white half with its dirt like dust lining the corners and at the back of the leg, makes it look as though the terminator has actually been moving around.

The colour scheme is really nice. But ill echo Dies Irae's comment on the optics, i think if you could refine it a bit more to get the reflective sort of look, it would really add that little bit of extra.

As for you painting the model the wrong way around, why not just free hand the U with the same colour green on the white shoulder?

Thing is whenever i try to paint that small it never seems to work, might give a go at a later stage.

I've removed all the off-topic post from the thread, since they were doing nothing more than needlessly confusing matters. Guys, if you have nothing relevant to say, kindly avoid posting inane drivel.

Quick update: I was trying to figure out how best to make a Company Champion out of old armour bits and wargear when i noticed an unused Emperor's Champion sitting on my desk, had a look for a shield (found one on an Assualt Marine sprue), stuck him together with a minor bit of conversation and until Forge World release a Company Champion/Honour Guard set he'll make do. Once he's done i'll post him on here

  14. #14
Ive finally finished the Company Champion for the Second Company, had fun painting the model and ive noticed that every now and then when a choose a certain colour scheme im able to show off how well i can paint, weird. As usual i notice ive missed something when taking pictures. Added brown wash to the fabric of the purity seals.

Comments and suggestions welcome as usual.

Lovin' the scheme, RG. Models look well painted. Can't wait to see the vehicles!

Well the first vehicle will be a Forge World Rhino with Forge World Razorback Lascannon turret and perhaps a MkIIB Land Raider.

Question for you RG. Are you using a base for your white at all? To me it looks like you are applying a few layers of white to get it on the model. If that is the case try using some bleached bone or a grey/white mix first then another layer of white. With me this usually gives a very nice and clean white color. Cheers!

Here's how im painting the colour scheme - Chaos Black undercoat spray, Caliban Green base (two coats if necessary), Biel-Tan Green shade, Warpstone Glow layer (two coats), Moot Green highlight, Ulthuan Grey base (usually two coats), Argax Earthshade shade, White Scar layer (two coats).

    EDIT:

Im currently working on kit bashing a plastic Librarian, ive got everything i need except a torso back and so ive managed to pry one off a Grey Knight Strike Squad Justicar. Only problem is i managed to rip some of the lower bits off which will have to filled in with greenstuff. Im using a Plasma Pistol from the Tactical Squad upgrade sprue, legs/shoulder pad/right arm/purity seals/pistol holder from the Space Marine Commander sprues, Grey Knight Strike Squad Staff and shoulder pad with a book in the middle. The front torso is a Black Templar one with pointy armour and tabard and the backpack and scroll ontop.

Should be fun painting him once ive got him assembled, going to paint him in chapter colours with blue shoulder pads.

That is bloody impressive. The only thing i would do to bring it that final step would be to try and bring out the wording engraved on the sword.

  22. #22
Any suggestions? I tried when i first started painting it but it just looked awful.

how about a very soft drybrush over the lettering to make them out.. or you could try and get some wash in there to darken it out

Afternoon all, ive finished my scratch built plastic Librarian for my Second Company, overall im happy with how he's been painted though there are a few bits that id probably improve at a later date.

Comments and opinions welcome as usual.

One thing I am going to do is stop using green before white, or at the very least change the water - I noticed that some of the white/grey had a slight greenish tinge. Very annoying lol.

Morning all, just finished my Jump Pack Chaplain for the Second Company and i had a lot of fun painting him. As you can see i could do with another white light lamp (for certain pictures).

    As usual, comments welcome.

I can't really give any constructive feedback.

I'll just say I'm really enjoying your work and the Chaplain looks great.

Thanks, im currently thinking about not pre-ordering the new rulebook tomorrow and spending the money on stuff to keep me busy while i wait for my Forge World order which has yet to be dispatched (ordered last Friday).

Ahah seems like we were both working on the same model :P It is nice to see someone take on a different approach to painting Chaplains (as in not black ones with a little bit of chapter colours here and there)

  34. #34
Im thinking about ditching the MkIV armour only idea but still use bits from Forge World here and there, like MK2 or 3 armoured Sternguard or old Mk Land Raiders etc. Ive got two Tactical Squads that i could paint up and keep myself busy until my order arrives.

  35. #35
Quick update: I've decided to ditch the MkIV only idea and it means I now have two Tactical Squads in the army which I can paint up, saves me money too. I've also just bought the Finecast Sternguard box which I will start putting together today and paint. Going to enter it in this month's painting competition at my local GW.

  36. #36
Good morning everyone, it's update time again and ive just finished my new Sternguard Squad for the First Company of my custom chapter. I had fun painting them and i look forward to finishing off the squad at a later date (i need to either buy another box and then find a lone model to replace the Sgt or scratch build the remaining five).

    Comments welcome.

But this is the relicnews forum and you only waited like 12 hours for a response... give it a few more days. :P

They are pretty nice there, after a while I find that unless you are doing something completely out of the ordinary or a new and awesome conversion, you probably won't see too many responses. Usually at least the view count will go up, which is something I suppose.

  39. #39
Yeah i guess, the other thread is a bit slow as well. Vehicles won't be added to the topic until after the second week of July when i next get paid, though i imagine once i post pics for the rest of the Command Squad people will chim in (using MkIV Command Set and related stuff).

Afternoon all, quick update....I popped Into my local GW and bought a venerable dred for the army, going to give him the power fist*(hand) and Lascannon. *Chances are he will be finished by sat/sun and then I'll carry on painting the two tactical squads. *My forge world order should be arriving soon and so I'll be adding them as well.

Evening all, ive just finished the Captain for the Second Company for my custom Space Marine Chapter. I used the Captain model from the Forge World MkIV Command Set, removed the helmet from his arm and gave him a Bolt Pistol and the Standard Bearer's Head. Had fun painting the model and it was easy to put together.

Next up is the Power Fist guy from the Second Company Command Squad. The model is the Standard Bearer from the MkIV Command Set, i gave him the Power Fist from the Forge World Character Upgrade Set and a MkIV helmet from the MkIV armour set. The model was easy to put together and painting it was fun.
