First blending attempt

    First blending attempt

Hi all, I'm a long-time lurker and new member. I'm also returning to 40k hobbying after a 7-year hiatus, with two principal goals: 1) actually learn how to play the damn game this time, and 2) overcome my fear of blending to break out of my painting plateau. Since this is my first thread, I'll keep this short -- here is my first crack at it. I used Vallejo Game Color paints and a "feathering" technique for the blends. I'm not exactly thrilled with the result but I've heard this takes nothing so much as practice so I'm trying to stay positive. Comments and specific suggestions are most welcome, as of course is encouragement for those of you who've passed through these difficult waters on your own journeys to painting glory. If any of you have a favorite tutorial/video that helped you master smooth blends I would be grateful for those as well.

    Cheers!

The green looks really really good. The yellow could use some work, however i know how damn hard it is to blend yellow nicely(its one of the colours i struggle still with) so its a really good effort!

As for what things i have found work well... practice... practice and more practice. I honestly just kept watering down paints and trying to make the transitions better the next time and going back to reshade and rewash the base coats again and again until they look right. But im sure others have used videos or other methods to get it down pat

Try using the vallejo air paints for blending instead. Straight out of the bottle they're almost the perfect consistency. Getting a handle on the right flow and consistency is the hardest part.

    Hi all,

thanks for the feedback, Lok and Winterdyne! Been busy lately, hence the late reply, but I've taken another crack trying different colors (purple and white to shade/highlight the green rather than brown/yellow) and a fancy bone-colored helmet!

    C&C appreciated as always.
