    [WIP] 4p_Africa_Raid_Tobruk

The Story of this 4 Player Desert Map is the Siege of Tobruk, by the Axis Forces.

The Desert is a open range and ideal to start tank attacks.

    See also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Tobruk

Tobruk is occupied by British Forces.

Allies are strong in Resources, because many supply lines end in the harbour of Tobruk.

The Allies have the sovereignty over the airspace and the sea, so, the Situation for Axis forces is dramatic, only 10% of the Axis supply reach in North Africa.

On there Way to Tobruk the Axis forces have to crack a strong defense line.

    Hello !
Good news to hear that a Tobruk map is on the way!
Btw, do you know Afrika Mod ? i think Aidas will be very interrested to know that you have started a Tobruk map, its one of the map we wanted to do for Afrika mod.

Oh, you should put a Sector picture so we can see the shape you want to give to the battle

If you want i can give you few advices to enhance visuals or gameplay:
That part of the Libyan desert has few bushes, its not only sand like in the middle of the sahara, so you can add a few isolated bush here and there to add light covers for infantry to progress

i suggest you to use a few splines for the dunes (it look better and you can give em a faded sandripple texture which breaks a little bit the unity of the sand elsewhere). if you dont know what im talkin about, there is some of em in the stamping kit for desert maps i made (there is also few stamp for adding bushes, some for large areas) you can just adjust it after u put a stamp, i suggest you to use lower bush density than in my stamps, because you map is big and you need to have more infantry light cover all along the battle

about the tank blocks used there : http://www.imagebanana.com/view/cv35...d_Tobruk03.jpg
I've been told that they are not destructible, so maybe you should add more space between em, to give a change to pass despite it will be a death trap for tanks if a AT is hidden hehe

about the walls there : http://www.imagebanana.com/view/48ml...d_Tobruk02.jpg you should make several holes in them to allow better infantry assault on that part. All the map is in the open i thinks its ok to have a enclosed area there, but be carefull to add as much space as possible in it wont break the infantry flow

Good luck mate, nice job so far

Sorry, but the map is way to small to represent Tobruk. Toburk is a big port city, some hqs are way to near the port and inbalanced against the ones that are on the edge of the map. The whole maps needs to be much, much larger, the port/ industrial area expanded with a city and generaly a lot of work and balance is still needed. It's best if the players start out in the edges and not behind the city, that way they shoud fight for it. It's a nice start but needs a lot of work.

    Some ref.

    Hi Playmobil, Aidas2,

many thanks for your reply and tips.

Sry, never heard from Africa mod before. So the map may be to small to represent Tobruk not at all.

It is difficult to find the right bushes for a Desert, because the most of the objects in WB are green ;o)) The same problem is to find houses, so the city of Tobruk is also hard to realize.

Have posted some new pictures. Have tryed to give the Desert more realism. Have changed the Tank blocks, and opend the walls with some more passages.

Balance,...yes its true, the defenders of Tobruk are in the better position, but this was also in history,..it was hard for Axis forces to capture Tobruk!

You find an actualised download linki in the first post of the thread.

there is a tip for the green bushes
in every bush properties, you can set up it's tint! there is like 10 predefined tints.
And the same thing exists for trees, but trees also have a burnt parameter that remove leaves and make the tree goes black. problem is that no trees will fit in desert anyway -_-

For the houses, yes its a real mission to make buildings suit to desert. leave the houses for the end, as its for now the biggest issue for desert maps.

About the spawns : Aidas is right, you might place the spawns not behind the city, so they are still in defensive position regarding to the town, but it will less hurt gameplay..

I've just re-uploaded my stamping kit for desert maps.. u can find a lot of elements in to help you to fil the desert. the link is also in my signature

"Europe At War" mod is also adding the African theater with specific units for these maps. It may be interesting.

Wow, looks really nice. But I recommend to use some sand tiles.
CoH has some nice textures in this regard.
    Otherwise good work.
