Thinking in a very diferent mod...

Hi, I'd played Homeworld 2 for almost 5 years, found very exiting mods and liked very much. This game is the most strategy game I'd ever played, but space battles got me bored.

Now I'm thinking in start a mod for myself and I'm thinking in a very different mod. I'm planing to start modding but before I start i need to ask you, people of the forum, if there is a possibility to do it: Instead of space battles I'm thinking in turning homeworld into a terrain based playing game. Instead of putting ships in space why not putting ships on earth? Sea, land and underwater. Is that possible? can we turn Homeworld to a terrain based game?

    Regards.

    Short answer: No

Long answer: I can't imagine any way to do it without lots and LOTS of custom gamerule scripting, and I don't believe the script functions are really there to get it done, and even if they do the result would almost certainly be very fragile and buggy. I can't imagine anything the HW2 engine has that would make all that work appealing over using another game as a platform that's more suited for it.

IF you're looking to do something so radically different, you can probably find a different game to mod that is far more suited to the task.
    Destroying things is easy.
    Creating things is hard.
Creating things in order to watch them explode is just plain fun.

I could see underwater and sub combat. it would just be clear water or make the map a nebula

Starcraft 2 engine is one of the worst engines to work with as far as I can tell (too limiting), I would recommend some of the old CNC engines like Generals or Tiberium Wars pretty easy to use and very satifiying, or even better use Supreme Commander or World in Conflict engine, I never tried them but I know people that achieved pretty good results in them.

Also I'm not sure if the DOW and COH engines are an option.

Underwater combat is about the only non-space thing you can do with HW2 ... in fact, I think it's been done before.

Yes, almost all of them are easily modable.

Search in ModDB, the easier the engine to mod, normally have more mods available.
