How do i clean up the textures for homeworld 1 ships etc?

    How do i clean up the textures for homeworld 1 ships etc?

    Okay problem that i notice is that the are missing sections on textures and when ship gets in game with that texture it does all sorts of weird stuff to it like messing up team colors etc, so i was wondering how do i fix this besides removing the alpha channel which would disable team colors.

    Hm, a shot of the "weired" stuff would be good.

    If I remember right main colour is the alpha of $diffuse and $glow alpha defines the stripe.
    While Back is coloured and white uneffected - maybe homworld don't like gray here you should try to make the parts fully back or white if not already done.

    but what i'm telling you here XD ... you are working on HWU right ? ^^ ... you have at least worked on 100+ ships :-P.

    When I played Freespace Mod a while ago I noticed some strong pixeled parts on some textures while others where fully smooth. I tried to find a reason and ended up at Mipmaps. (Wow ... this was back in the time when I started to get my fist kitbashed models ingame XD)
    Maybe the HW1 maps have no propper Mipmaps. You could take a look i they have all active (about 9-12 I think)

    Also save it as DDS (5?) with interpolated alpha.

    Alpha channel won't work with shader2.0 and stripe needs to be white to work correctly

    Were did that hole came from? but when saved to dds the image should go flat and the hole would become thr bkg color. show a pic of the problem ingame.

    I was assuming you were using photoshop to convert. I'm guessing you're not?

    normal = (normal)
    specular = (normal)
    glow = (normal)
    label = (normal)
    stripe = (overlay)
    team = (overlay)
    tex = (normal)

    i havent converted that texture that is what it looks like when i load it into either gimp or photoshop.

    It must be converted otherwise it would be a .LIF file. It looks like a file from the Raider mod of HW1. It also looks like it was altered. I can't seem to find where this texture is supposed to fit. I have all the files. Which model is this supposed to be part of?

    Its a PSD file and i need to know how to clean up that issue because it messes up stuff in game and its for the turanic MS from derelicts, thou i havent touched it yet.

    I have an original here and can use it as a base for yours. Send it to me. What do you want it to look like as far as label, stripe, team, are concerned? I can set it up in a matter of a couple of minutes. I'll also figure out what you can do to fix others like it.

    if its not too much trouble just set up the team colors like how you have them in the texture files, and also they were LIF which i converted to PSD for gimp.

    You don't understand. There are no team colors or alpha in the original file. I need the one you have to assess these things.

    This one is already decompiled and ready to use. I left some of my old HW folders in it to give you some idea of the structure to follow. Read all the redme files thoroughly. You may or may not need to install the VB files.

    i use lif to psd to convert them and i got tht from chris;s community mod tools pack on moddb.

    Texture issue is still showing up after figuring out how to use the other stuff you sent to the sections of texture that get messed up in the conversion process are still appearing when converted to PSD.

    Take the LIF and drop it onto Lif2Psd.exe
    It will make a clean PSD file with layers. Solid black sometimes doesn't show up. To remedy this create a layer under TEX and fill it with 0,0,0 (black) then merge TEX down onto the new layer and rename it TEX. This will restore the black.

    By using 3D Exploration you can preview a LIF file to see if there are layers within it. It's free so do a search to find it if you don't have it..

    actually i found another way to do it, i h ave 3Dex turn the LIF into targa, and i have PSD copies of the textures and resize both files and transfer team color from PSD to Targa then covnert targa to DDS.

    not really, as the main work is resizing then doing the team colors, but its fairly fast just finished the derelict mod pirate cruiser and its hot.

    I don't care for the mothership. It's a rip from the Raider mod and it's not as good.
