Alright Relic Newsers, we have had our fill of 'fave webcomic', 'fave music' etc. review threads, but I have not seen one for the new trend that is cropping up around the net:
Self or crowd funded projects distributed online.
This can reach from the recently completed Video Game Highschool, to the longer episodic format Pioneer One.
What they share in common is that they completely cutout the publisher/broadcaster dynamic and are just the development/production team creating output directly for what they feel is their target market.
This differs from previous webseries (e.g. for Jericho of Battlestar Galactica) which are usually tie ins or funded by broadcasters.

I would highly recommend VGHS - it's very much the Scrubs of this new format of webshows. Bringing in a plethroa of web celebs and really nailing the humour for it's target audience.
Critically each of the episodes is paced as an episode meaning it doesnt have the really off putting structure that its peers seem to fall into. Mix in some suprisingly good acting from the leads and it's nearly up to the par and quality of what we would expect for our half our longs on TV.
Contrast this with Sync:

Which started off brilliantly (or more accurately started off with great trailers) but has completely lost it's shit for the last three episodes and has a really misguided attempt to shift the 'action' to 'China' which was far outside of the budgetary constraints (or shooting schedule?) of the show.
Though from the same team is a pilot for Tether which looks amazing so go check that out.
