Woop, first game bought. Thought I could spend 3,5€ for Bastion and play it if I get bored anytime soon.

    Depends. Did you enjoy fallout?

It's kind of like that, but more difficult to understand, and a lot more bugs. A few mods fix all of that while making the game better.

Call of Pripyat is probably the better of all the Stalker games (less bugs) and the story doesn't really matter. It's been a while since I played a Stalker game though

Haha, well I guess you can't begrudge them charging an extra 3p! (I'm assuming there's another DLC up top that got cropped, value 0.49?)

STALKER IS AWESOME. It's a lonely game, very very atmospheric but the shooting is part of the journey, not the journey itself as its a bit janky, but one of the best games released on pc. Not played clear sky, but the first and third games are amazing.

I set a limit for myself like I do every sale and have only grabbed Skyrim and Bastion so far. There are games I'd love to grab at the prices they're showing up for, but I doubt I'd play them between now and the holiday sale, and more than likely they'll show up for at least as good a discount as they're getting now.

I came close to getting Arkham City and the Stalker bundle, and briefly considered the Dragon Age Origins flash deal they've got going right now (DAO Ultimate for $7.49 or something like that) but figured that I wouldn't have time to play 'em anytime soon so didn't bother. All that I've picked up thus far is Trine 2 and an expansion to a game that I got for free during the last big sale.
I has a Blurb. And one of those Tweeter things.

SoaSE:R is on sale, but with a small discount - 25%, if anyone is interested. Still too expensive for what I'm willing to pay for it.

That would be the America units. Also, the Special Forces DLC is listed at 0.49 on its own page, so it is a discount (though not a big one).

I'll wait a few more months on SoaSE Rebellion.

STALKER is a good game, but it does not feel as polished as say the Fallout games (dialogue is largely one-dimensional, for one), but the shooting mechanics are far superior. It's simply put, more of a shooter than an RPG, unlike the case for Fallout.

It can also be a very difficult game, especially the first one, since enemies can hurt you easily from a great distance. The game gets a lot easier once you find a scope, but that would be quite some time...

I've not played Clear Sky, but Call of Pripyat is superior to the first one gameplay-wise, but the first still has the best (more interesting) story.

    nope

maybe thats the "big surprise" thats been rumoured to happen sometime during the sale?

so i crumbled and bought dragon age ultimate. I have a small (not really) problem though. I have 24GB free disc space on my steam drive, and dao is 20Gb.

Someone buy me a hard drive!

I want to get The Longest Journey, but "40+ hours of gameplay" sound like a lot of work (yeah I know long campaigns are supposed to be a good thing).

I want Rebellion to come down more in price damn it. Not for myself you see, because I already bought it out of pure love of Sins. No, seriously. Since the games initial release I've purchased Sins, Trinity, and Rebellion all at full price at some point. That's somewhere north of $100 all for essentially the same game. But I'm mentally ill, so pay me no heed.

    I digress.

I want the game to be cheaper so my more sensible friends will buy it now. At this rate they won't get it until the Holiday Sale in December.

Oh, and add Orcs Must Die 2 to my list of purchases if I haven't mentioned that one yet....

Can't decide wether or not to pick up the Witcher 1 or the Witcher 2 and skip the Witcher 1.

How long does it exactly take to finish the Witcher 1?

I got The Witcher on Scoia and Arinax's recommendation, but it's really disappointing me so far- a fairly generic fantasy setting, characters with American accents and bad dialogue as far as the eye can see, pretty tedious combat... I'll keep playing it, but at the moment The Witcher 2 is not on my list of Games To Get.

I got Sins Trinity, btw- can we set up a Dolt multiplayer game at some point?

Oh, and I played the demo for Orcs Must Die! I now realise not only that they must die, but that I must get both the first game and the sequel.

  27. #177
Longest journey as 40 hours + seems ridiculous. Theoretically, being a puzzle game you could get stuck and rack up 100's of hours, but in this day and age you'll hit gamefaqs and solve it, especially the fucking railway puzzle..eugh. Beautiful game, but not visually which has aged poorly, however the writing and soul is wonderful. Play it then hit up Dreamfall and then join me in wishing they would stop wasting time on MMO's and finish what they have started.

@Kirjava - I initually bounced off the witcher too (but not the witcher 2). The first act is shite, the combat is appaling until you have levelled and it really does not play to its strengths. Get past the awful village bit and it gets much, much better with a decent setting, good characters and an interesting approach to decision making.

    Psht. Whatever.

I offered to go in with you on a 2-pack and you hated the idea so much that you hacked the forum and caused that entire day's worth of posts to be deleted!

(In all seriousness, if you haven't found anybody by like Tuesday-ish, hit me up. I loved the first game and a 2-pack would bring the price of the sequel down to like $11.25 each.)

I have no idea when I'll play them all: Saints Row 3, Arkham City, Train Sim (lol), and DA:O (ultimate pack). Not a huge number of games but there's 100+ hours of gameplay. All for ~$30.

Almost bought Skyrim and and a few other Flash Deals but have shown some willpower thus far. I'm sure something horrible (read: wonderful) will happen soon that makes me shell out even more. Damn you Steam. Damn you all to hell. (and I still haven't touched Battlefield 2: BC and Fallout: NV from the last Steam sale...wtf?)

Second the Witcher 1 thing - the first act is kinda not cool... it took me 5 attempts to play the game long enough to get past the entry into vizima, mostly because of RL issues though... The rest is pretty cool though and you get quite a decent amount of feedback on your decisions in the second game that really makes it worthwile to do the whole thing.

    @Gorb

Seeing you like that makes me glad that I only buy stuff that isn't available boxed ;-)

@ph03nIXx: the physical games could be replaced.

Signed copies of Relic games? Forever gone

    Damage so far:

    Bastion
Two Worlds 2 (one of the most interesting magic systems in quite a while)
    E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy

It probably does help that I had 170 games on Steam before the sale (publisher packages tend to expand the list dramatically).

Hooray, I got 'Analogue: A Hate Story' for 5 euro's.

Not bad for 3 hours of entertainment (1 out of 5 endings). This game is pretty shocking though. I did NOT see the end revelation coming.

And that really sucks Gorb, who robs a place on christmas of all days : / (well let alone any day of year...)

If anyone likes Single Player RPGs with a differing twist on normal fantasy tropes, go buy Divinity 2; its a rough gem that is excellent.

    You have 20 minutes. GO!

If you haven't played it, Quantum Conundrum is quite good and definitely worth the asking price at 40% off. It's a lot like Portal 1 in design principles, but it uses a much broader toolset to design its puzzles.

  49. #199
Wow, I lost the battle. I actually bought something off steam. For the first time in my life, Steam had something cheaper than my retailers. Batman Arkham City here I come, after you download all 15gigs of your fat bat butt.

Witcher 1 is a good game but it's a flawed gem that might not be everyone's cup of tea. Witcher 2 probably has wider appeal and in a strange turn of events is actually way better in every way from gameplay to characterization than the first game. It also feels more faithful to the books in tone and atmosphere and since Sapkowski is pretty great that can only be a good thing.
