Steam Summer Sale

  1. #201
*sigh* £41. Forty-One-Pounds. Willpower, why dost thou desert me so?

Not a single game over £7 though. Anno 2070 tempted me at £14.99, but I stuck to my guns on that one at least.

Unless some ridiculous flash sale crops up my haul this time stands at:

    Evochron: Mercenary
    Red Orchestra 2
    Deus Ex HR: Missing Link
    X: Albion Prelude
    Just Cause 2
    Batman: Arkham City
    Spess Mehreen
    Portal 2
    Saint's Row 3

I hate you Steam, but I love you as well.

I'm considering it over, which brings my total to:

    2x Trine 2 (one for a buddy)
    Sanctum (from that same buddy)
    Crusader Kings II (kirjava <3)
Ys Origins and Oath in Felghana

And, unrelated to the sales, Orcs Must Die! 2. I'm happy.

I'm very pleased with the amount of Dolts who've picked up Crusader Kings 2! Be sure to pop in to the CK2 thread or the Let's Play, Int

    My final tally...

Europa Universalis 3 Complete (played a bit, intimidatingly complicated)
    LIMBO (beautiful but frustrating)
Magicka (hilarious but buggy and frustrating)
Orcs Must Die! (genius, possibly my favourite)
Plants vs Zombies (for the missus to play)
    Portal 2 (delightful)
Sins of a Solar Empire (not touched yet, already know it's good though)
Supreme Commander (played briefly, need to learn)
Wargame: European Escalation (not played yet)
The Witcher (disappointing so far but assured it gets better)
    X-COM (not played yet)

Also got my Pillar of the Community badge

Steam, I hate you and I love you.
Doltmarines, for the Emprah: the place to play Dawn of War: Soulstorm
"The ecosystem! We destroy that and this is ovah! CHAAAARGE!" - Lomax
Blood and Balls: the Relicnews Doltathon Blood Bowl Blog (awaiting renovation)
"I'd probably lose my shit if I saw a mushroom with a mouth, eyes, and legs walking toward me in real life. That doesn't make me afraid to play Mario." - Starblade

I didn't pick up anything else except for the two things I mentioned previously; most of the things that I would've been interested in I'd either already gotten through daily specials/Midweek Madness/Weekend Deals/various indie bundles or they were more than I wanted to pay and I'll just wait until the Christmas sale or something when the core price has dropped.

Also, unrelated to the sale: If anybody would like Half-Life 2: Episode 1 or Nuclear Dawn, let me know; I've still got HL2E1 from the 2011 holiday sale and randomly got a giftable copy of Nuclear Dawn a month or so ago for owning it. Figured that as people were tallying their loot/losses, anybody who was interested could add a free game or two to their tally.
I has a Blurb. And one of those Tweeter things.

Picked up Crusader Kings II with dlc, Orcs Must Die 2, and Frozen Synapse for myself. Got two copies of Frozen Synapse for friends and also grabbed OMD 2 for one of them. I spent $15 in real money that came out of an actual bank account. Everything else was on Blizzards tab.

Oh and I got Dead Island gifted to me.

All in all not a bad haul.

Hmm, I'm assuming at the head of this post that I showed good restraint. I wonder if that's actually the case...

    Assassin's Creed: Revelations - $13.59
Batman: Arkham City and Harley Quinn's Revenge - $13.58
Indie Bundle Seven - $9.99 (I owned three of the titles in here, but it was the cheapest way to get QUBE and Vessel)
E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy - $2.50 (At less money than my morning energy drink, I'll give this Dues-Ex-alike a try even though I hear it's a bit buggy)
Galactic Civilizations II - $4.99 (I've always wanted to try out Twilight of the Arnor, never got around to it)
Quantum Conundrum Season Pass - $11.99 (It features clever puzzles and the voicework of John de Lancie, a man no stranger to playing characters involved with discord and chaos like this, for an excellent experience)

Total of $56.63. Yeah, that's not bad, and should easily keep me occupied until Borderlands 2 comes out.

I bought two copies of Anno 2070, one for myself and one for my brother. And that's it. There really wasn't anything that appealing during the sale that I didn't already own, so meh.

ONly thing I brought during the sale was the latest dlc skin pack for killing floor.
nothing else appealed to me when I either already completed it or am simply not interested. Hope something decent comes along during the christmas sales. Borderlands 2 perhaps.

    My final list is:

    Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet
    Driver: San Francisco
    Stacking
    Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands
    L.A. Noire
    Renegade Ops
    Bejeweled 3
    Sonic Generations
    Trine 2

I have to say, I'm not quite as bad as some people.

  19. #219
I dunno Gorb when you average it out you only payed £3.00 per game. It may seem like a lot of money but that's a disgustingly good deal. Especially when you consider that a good number of those games are under 2-3 years old, and would usually run in the 20 dollar range. (Don't know the exact game prices for relatively recent titles bought new in £'s but here in the states they are usually $19.99.) You can pick up recent console games for steam like prices but they're generally pre-owned.

Sure he got them cheap but at the same time, where is going to get all the time to play them all?!

Not having internet at my house was the thing stopping me from going crazier on spending. Got LA. Noire to keep me going in the meantime... their motion capture is so realistic, it looks a bit creepy.

You have only yourself to blame on that one

I'm a little ambivalent on the flash sales. I felt quite a bit of pressure to keep checking on Steam (even on my phone when I'm not at the computer) just to see if there's some interesting flash sale. While we only needed to check at least once a day for new offers, now we need to check several times a day to make sure we didn't miss anything interesting.

Oh shush, Mr. "OH BUY THE WITCHER BUY IT NOW NOW NOW NOW BUY NOW"

    @A7K: £3.05 (3.0454) per game, yeah

That's what I used to rationalise my purchases, especially since the number picked up dramatically in the second half of the sale!

@Codex: A few of them I have played/owned before (War for Cybertron, CoH, Bioshock, Medieval II/Kingdoms and Rome: Total War to name a few) - just repopulating my gaming collection. I was annoyed that I lost the ones I just mentioned there!

I don't regret everything after Chaos Rising, just to clarify, but the original DoW2 was such a massive let-down in comparison to the first DoW that I couldn't not regret it.

The original DoW2 was one of the reasons I quit modding DoW. I just lost interest in the original after I got the sequel.

Gorb: He spent more than you, but only barely. After you convert your spending to USD he's only ahead of you by like $8.

So.... Is it just me or did the steam sale seem somewhat underwhelming this year?

I only got SoaSE: Rebellion and Shogun 2 (normal, I wouldn't waste time in MP, only in it for the campaign). Maybe it's just me, but last year there was so much ... more hype than this year. Maybe it's just me thinking the downfall of the gaming industry? *shrug*

@Croax: didn't even check for USD conversion, I just saw the number and jumped

Ah well, at least I'm still underneath him! VICTORY IS MINE.

Space Marine's been worth the money, I've been having a blast knocking the shit out of orks with a thunder hammer and the whole thing oozes 40k. I'm a bit dubious about the plot, however,

Anyone else having problems playing multiplayer games on Steam? For several different games it states the lobby is unavailable and you can't join.
My Interceptor is better than your Interceptor.

Fenra: I imagine that part of it is just a response to the absolute clusterfuck that happened during the holiday sale. They likely wanted to keep this one low key.

Or they've just been busy working on that Linux client Gabe mentioned and threw this together at the last minute.
