Infantry walking

    Infantry walking

I'm trying to get one of my soldier squads to walk along. There was a mission in company of heroes where your paratroopers are just casually walking along when the germans open fire on them.

You see a similar thing when you install opposing fronts, there are short video clips showing tommy's and a bagpiper walking along (no crouching/bending down etc etc).

I have searched the forums and found several results, none of them are particularly helpful though. I also remember asking about this years ago but no-one could figure it out.

From my forums search, it still seems that no-one actually knows for sure how to do it...

I've tried changing max spead, and making a new posture type with every locamotion set to stand_slow. It looks like this may have changed the distance that my soldiers move their feet when they move (the posture), but its has changed the speed (so now there feet move really quickly), also, they are still bending down a bit. They won't walk like soldiers who are on a patrol...

    Any ideas?

You need to apply a posture speed modifier with -1 as the value.

    With the apply modifiers action.

Also, here is an older tutorial on the subject: http://forums.relicnews.com/showthre...infantry-speed

I think he means in a non-British fashion. British troops will 'run' slowly with their weapons held close to their chests. There is an animation of troops casually strolling along as if walking a city street. That might be what he means.

Yes. That is exactly what I mean. Thank you Volsky!

Eliw00d, I came across that thread, however, Squadai cannot be opened with corsix mod studio.

I know where to find "apply_modifiers_action", but then what? It isn't really a straight forward process. How do I "apply a posture speed modifier"?

Will this make the soldiers move in the way Volsky described?

Sorry for being a pain. Thanks for your help.

Also, what does "eliw00d" mean? Is that your name? Just interested.

Try looking at some existing abilities that have the apply_modifiers_action to see how to add a modifier. I would recommend looking at the lieutenant_force_multiplier ability, as that has a posture_speed_modifier in the positive (faster) direction. You would just have to do something similar with a -1 instead of a 1 to make them walk.

As for my username, it is a reference to a character in Fire Emblem 7.

Eli, he doesn't mean their speed in general, he means the real posture of how they way, he wants the infantry to walk like a casual person would, instead of how a soldier does in battle (half crouched). As far as I know this 'state' of walking is an NIS animation, or an animation that can be acquired when writing a custom ScAR script.

Yeah, I get that. But, since it's an NIS animation and not an actual locomotion state, I was just helping him with the normal method.
