The cops spam them enough to charge in, also not all the mercs seem to have bullets or guns for that matter. Plus it was like 3000? or 300 cops running at them? They can't gun them all down before they reach them. Not that many, they zerg rushed which made that scene awesome at least in my opinion. However bat man comming in and doing prety much nothing was the bad part, however the cop charge was sure fun to watch. Oh yes its possible to over spam machine gun power, it has been done in real life. I don't think i need to point out examples heh.

More then likely the criminals reveled the opportunity to beat up cops rather than simply gun them down.

In those real life scenarios they actually fired the guns, though. Also there were several thousand cops (all the cops, apparently); a few hundred could be easily wasted by a couple dozen guys with machine guns.Oh yes its possible to over spam machine gun power, it has been done in real life.

@Starblade:
I guess I didn't make the connection. I didn't quite get the whole end-plot which is why I was confused about Bane's mission.
@roflmao:
You were in the bathroom , didn't you? Damn long-ass movie, my bladder almost explode.
Bane was a good character but the voice was kinda weird, I would have preferred something more cliche like a Vader voice (or something like Sovereign of Mass Effect).
Yeah and the cop charge was really dumb, otherwise great movie, not as good as the second but nearly there.
Bane and Talia
Bane and Talia consider each other equals?
An equal man does not commit fiery suicide because his equal girlfriend wants to die avenging her father. Her father who kicked him out because daughter's too good for him.
Bane's a mook.
Oops, I forgot about spoilers again. :P

Spoiler
Her father who kicked him out because he constantly reminded him of his failure as a father and a lover. You should have paid more attention to the movie. Her father who kicked him out because daughter's too good for him.
A mook would have been one of the guys under Bane who have zero say in what is going on. Bane was in control of the city. Bane kidnapped the scientist. Bane set up the nuclear missilebomb. Bane broke Batman. The conditions the city were in made it clear he was not in contact with Talia; he did it all on his own prerogative.
I've edited your post to have spoiler tags. Start using them, please.

Spoiler
At worst, Bane is a dragon - the big boss's trusted right-hand. That's far removed from being a simple mook.
I loved it, though I couldn't quite get into it because I already knew what was going to happen.
Best moment of the movie for me was when I imitated the HEALING PUNCH! and sent my sister's coke and my own flying through the aisle.

I really didn't like that movie. Muddled, too long, too many characters with too little to do and for long stretches actually rather boring. Begins>TDK>TDKR
Well it would made it even more fun if the cops went and picked up riot shields and batman shut down all of his gear... that hey allowed to get stolen.
#113
It wasn't his, it was Fox/Wayne Enterprise's stuff. And he wasn't in much of a position to stop them. He has no control over the stuff that he didn't ever touch.
No batman protocol shut down code ? no emp device to shut down his stuff if it got in the wrong hands. Sigh >.> at least old batman knew how to put his bat car in a very hard to break in chitin shell.

Quick note on Catwoman and sex appeal; as presented in the movie she's a woman who thrives on leveraging bits of female privilege. She's pretty and plays the damsel in distress act exactly as well as needed to get what she wants and to make her male opponents underestimate her (the scene in the bar where she turns the panicked screaming on and then off again like a switch really brings this home. It's a form of manipulation that a man simply couldn't pull off with the same effectiveness). Her physique is part of why she can do this. I think it's a valid thing for people to comment on.

I thought the movie was good but yeah, plot holes.Spoiler
Like the stock market job - they wait to get totally surrounded by cops, then the cops cut the fiber optic cable, at which point they "go mobile". What are they connecting to if the stock market is now isolated? And if they could access it remotely, why didn't they do that in the first place? Or if they needed to break in and use their gizmos to hack into the system, they could've immediately gone mobile after hacking in rather than waiting for almost every cop in Gotham to show up. And then it would've taken time to prove that the trades were fraudulent? My local credit union can figure out that transactions occurring 1,500+ miles from me were fraudulent and reverse the charges in days. But when armed terrorists break into the stock market and Bruce Wayne JUST HAPPENS to lose billions of dollars on the same day, well that's going to take a little time to prove.
Also, during the heist, it turns from day (maybe twilight) to pitch black in the span of about five minutes according to their 8 minute transaction timer.
Also, when Bruce returns to Gotham and finds Selina helping out the orphan, we see him approaching from about 50 feet away, we see a face shot of Selina saying a few words, then back to Bruce, who is now standing right next to her. Why didn't he use his Bat-teleporter to get out of the pit??? Alright I'm reaching a bit on that last one but I thought it was pretty funny. I think I even blurted out "whoa, he teleported" in the theatre.

Honestly, they should have just froze/reset the market. They completely futzed with the system anyways - any trade that occurred then would be suspect. Further, those trades made no damned sense - he used all of his assets to purchased options but never exercised them - nor did he have any money to exercise them with, because he spent all his money to buy the options.
Yeah, pretty unlikely.
I don't know, that's like... accusing a burn victim of setting fire to their own face because they hoped they'd end up with one of those +1 charisma scars. It's just so implausible.
And then yeah, if the market is compromised in such an egregious way you'd think they would revert the day's trading just as a precaution.
two thoughts:
1- police charge was dumb
2- THAT WAS NOT 11 MINUTES ?_?
I'm short and misanthropic. I'll bite your nipples off.
#122
Not really. Trades go well = make ALL the money, trades go bad = Oh it was the terrists trying to ruin me, please recompensate! In theory he has nothing to lose.I don't know, that's like... accusing a burn victim of setting fire to their own face because they hoped they'd end up with one of those +1 charisma scars. It's just so implausible.
#123
Except those trades were such that they couldn't possibly go well, because they weren't trades, they were option purchases and he had no money available to exercise them.
EDIT: Now that I think back to my derivatives class, I think I might be wrong, depending on how the option was structured - lots of options specify that rather than actually require a transfer of money/stock when exercised, they instead just pay the difference in price between the option price and the current market price. Eh, whatever.
I still think any trade that day should have been rolled back. That would completely invalidate the 'trades go well=make money, go bad=terrorists ruin me!' argument, since it'd change it to 'terrorists messed with markets=reset', with no chance for Bruce Wayne to make the money off of it.
#124
K. Will admit I don't remotely get how the stock market works at all.
Arbit and Langy! Please keep on ruining the movie more than it has already been ruined! I love feeling cheated by this movie to show how smart I am!
(No srsly. This is great.)
bane
Realised another problem with the film. Marion Cotillard is what, 36? and when Bane was being her protector, she was ten maximum. Bane had to have been a minimum of 20 when he was protecting her, judging from his size etc, which means that he at least is 46, and even that is a really conservative number.
Damn, Bane's old.

I was disappointed.
The whole movie seemed to shoehorn the actions of its characters to lead up into individual scenes that somebody thought "yeah thats cool, lets do that" or even "that'll look awesome in the trailers".
The overall effect was disjointed and forced to me. I literally could not believe this movie was made by the same people. Everything that was good by the movie was destroyed for me by this disjointedness and a few horrifically bad scenes, chief among which the harebrained police charge that was so fucking bad it would have fit well into "The Spirit". The fight scenes reminded me of the questionable talents of George Lucas before anything else and lacked impact. I never felt like they were serious business, compared to the stuff that for instance zack snyder did in his movies, like in "watchmen" (the final battle was one of the most frantic and intense fights I've ever seen), or pretty much anything in "300".
I felt okay about the movie after leaving it, but the more I thought about it the less I like it. I don't think I'll see this ever again.

Something I saw on tumblr that tickled my fancy:
Batman: Hey I'm going to disappear for 8 years.
Bruce Wayne: Hey I'm going to disappear for 8 years.
People of Gotham: Shut up Bruce, we're trying to figure out who Batman is.
Batman: I'M BACK!
Bruce Wayne: ME TOO.
People of Gotham: NO ONE CARES BRUCE. WHO THE FUCK IS BATMAN?
Lol, I thought of that myself n0z :P
Well was that before or after he turn poor, because after he turn poor well who cares for the poor?![]()
I believe that was after he turned poor but I don't remember.
#133
Well was that before or after he turn poor, because after he turn poor well who cares for the poor? No, it was before. It was actually a fairly basic and mildly important plot point in the beginning of the film. After the events of Dark Knight Bruce Wayne becomes a recluse for eight years. Batman also suddenly disappears at the same time. Once Bruce gets his dander up about Bane and what-have-you, and decides to "re-enter" society, Batman also mystically reappears.I believe that was after he turned poor but I don't remember.
I didn't mind the film. Then again, I liked Prometheus too.
I tend not to dwell on or look for the plot holes and what-not. When sillyness slaps me in the face, such as the "cop charge" for example, I just laugh or chalk it up to some kind of poorly thought-out "symbolism". Quite frankly I can't be bothered to get worked up over it because that's not why I go to the theatre.
That said, it's no Dark Knight. Nothing, and I do mean nothing, will ever beat Ledgers Joker. He was my kind of villain. Intelligent, but bat-shit crazy. No pun intended. I felt a legitimate pang of pain when, dangling there, he said: "I think you and I are destined to do this forever." Poor bastard.
Anyway. Decent film. Bit long, but I never found myself checking the time and walked out feeling entertained.
Went to see it yesterday and I enjoyed it. It wasn't The Dark Knight, but honestly, it's pretty hard to beat the Joker in a batman movie, especially Heat Ledger's Joker.
I must say though that when I heard Bane was the main villain, I was pretty skeptical about it, but I can honestly say now that my fears were uncalled for. I really enjoyed Bane in this movie. He comes across as a cold, calculated killer, not just your typical steroid pumped bruiser.
Spoiler
One thing I don't understand though is, during the first fistfight between Bane and Batman, Bane calls out Batman on trying to use the shadows, stating he had merely adopted the shadow while Bane was born in it. However, later it is reveiled Bane was not the child who climbed out of the pit. So what's up with that?
Make no mistake. War is coming. With all it's glory, and all it's horror...

Sinogrim
Spoiler
Everyone seems confused by this, I took it to mean he too was born in there, without being anyone special per se, it's a horrid prison possible, also considering him escaping as a boy lie wouldn't match up with him being toughed up. Or it was just him pretending to fool Batman from suspecting Talia. I prefer the latter as Bane seemed better educated than you'd probably get growing up in a prison

I took it as an early tell that Bane wasn't born in that prison and thus not R'as's son, and that Batman should have paid a bit more attention to what he says.
Yeah, overall I looked at the movie the same way. I wasn't looking for "realisticness" I mean, it is Batman after all, but they still did a great job of making it believable.I didn't mind the film. Then again, I liked Prometheus too.
Same reason why I liked Prometheus. Scif-Fi movie, not ment to fit into our earth "logic".

So second viewing was considerably more entertaining, given I knew of the film's flaws (IMO obviously) and could just set them to one side. The strength is still really in the emotional interaction of the characters- particularly Alfred and Bruce- and when it veers away from that, the plot is just a little shy of 'strong enough' to hold it together. Bane's voice is still a bit weird. Miranda Tate should have had more to do. The second-in-command cop guy doesn't get explored enough, but then that's symptomatic of the whole film. Even with its epic run time, there's simply too much there to do enough with it all.

Finally saw this and..
Spoiler
The charge of the cop brigade completely ripped me out of any sort of suspension of disbelief. There were HUNDREDS of mercenaries all holding high capacity assault rifles. The cops are arranged in a fucking column in a city street. It is basically impossible to miss in this scenario (see enfilade). But no, we need some dramatic swell or something. Completely ruined the rest of the movie for me, causing me to notice all sorts of stupid shit I otherwise would have glossed over.
I mean here we are this whole movie watching intrigue and intricate, impressively executed plans, and then at the end all the sudden the cops line up and run at the enemy. WHAT THE FUCK. Maybe come from a couple different directions? Maybe? Just MAYBE?
After that glaring continuity errors just became more obvious and prominent. The last fifteen minutes felt like a random walk through TV Tropes. You got your "drop the important magical device and reach for it" moment, your "long kiss with only seconds before the bomb explodes" moment, you've got your "thanks to the kiss, you have -10 seconds to move that bomb 6 miles using a helicopter that almost certainly can't travel faster than light" moment, and then of course the "batman can survive a 4 megaton nuclear blast and swim over six miles back to shore somehow" moment just so everyone has a happy ending.
I HATED the Talia reveal. The whole League of Shadows angle sucked actually. Bane would have been an amazing villain on his own, but for some stupid reason they had to muck it up with this other crap. Ugh.
I wish someone could have punched me in the back when I hurt it. That would have rocked.
#140
Spoiler
1. "5 minutes until the world explodes, two hour later, three minutes to go!" is a pretty common thing and you shouldn't care, it's just a quick way to build tension.
2. The twist was that Batman, apparently, wasn't in the Bat the whole time. The scene with Fox seeing that the software or whatever was fixed a while back by Wayne was supposed to be the giveaway he jumped out at some point.
3. I will have you know punch therapy is an ancient and respected medical practice.
#141
lolBatman
But the movie shows Batman in the Bat literally seconds before the bomb goes off. I could have bought that bit otherwise...
And going back to the mercs that we were talking about earlier, I maintain they were League of Shadows. They might not be ninjas, but a lot of the League's ninja-trained dudes would have been neutralised in Begins; these guys were super-loyal, to the point where Bane could say, "Die" and they would. They weren't regular mercs. Still LoS, but a lower rung perhaps, everything Bane and Talia have managed to put together since Ras al Ghul's death.
#142
Spoiler
It was cut in a way to suggest that, but the scene with Fox tells us that isn't what happened. The random guys weren't LoS, they were supposed to be testament to Bane's skills of persuasion, among other things.
#143
Spoiler
From what I remember, there were hundreds of cops but not hundreds of criminals at the steps, 50-60 at the most. The occupation lasted for 3-4 months and the criminals were dispersed through the city. Ammo was used up by the criminals, probably a lot on each other. There should have been an initial loss of a significant number of cops from the front ranks ( unless the Bat dropped smoke which got cut from the movie? )
#144
Spoiler
When Talia leaves the building a little later, everyone is still happily blazing away with their assault rifles. They had plenty of ammo and the cop charge should have been cut down in a wave of gore before the last ranks tripped on the bodies and viscera of the front rank. No other outcome makes any sense AT ALL. That they couldn't come up with a semi-intelligent way to get Bane and Batman fighting, like I dunno, he batcopters some cops to the roof while others come from the sewers while a bunch make a SENSIBLE attack on the front gate, so he's on foot down into the building.
It was just an idiotic scene.

Rule of cool only applies when it's actually cool, you know?
And (forgive me americans but) american cops are kind of "heavy" to be charging the enemy.
#147
Er.
The very vast majority of American cops are rather fit individuals quite capable of charging anything. They do have physical fitness standards, ya know. The stereotype of the fat American cop is just that - a stereotype. And that's typically the old detective or something, not the typical police officer.
Completely depends on the state or (metropolitan) county recruting standards. Which can be more or less lax depending on demand for positions, staff retention etc.
I would say from my experiences in the US the police vary a ludicrous amount in observational fitness just by crossing the county lines between sheriff's departments.
