Endgame Mod: 1v1 Replay Tournament! (August 5th, 2012)

Hello everyone! I'm happy to announce the Endgame 1v1 Replay Tournament!

Starting now until Sunday, August 19th, 2012 at 12 pm EST, submit 1v1 replays of you winning (see FAQ on replays) by emailing them to EndgameCoH@gmail.com.

Submission requirements: The subject of your submission emails should be "Endgame Replay Submission", and in the body of the email you should include: the relic names of the players involved, and who won (should be you!). Remember to attach your replay to the email!

Replays will be reviewed and given a score out of 10 by our judges based on the quality of the replay. Replays that score high enough will be looked at again to decide the Best Replay prize. The total score of your replays will be added up. You will score additional points for each unique opponent that you play. Whoever gets the highest total of points will take home the Grand Prize. All of the judges' decisions are final!

Remember, quality is better than quantity! Only games against other players will count!

    THE PRIZES:
Grand Prize - a Steam game of your choice, $20 USD or less -OR- a copy of Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor on Steam and another steam game of your choice, $10 USD or less.

Best Replay - a Steam game of your choice, $10 USD or less

Tell your friends! Head over to the forum section of Moddb to post your relic name and find people to play!

Best of luck to everyone! If you have any questions, post them in the comments and I'll get back to you asap. The winners will be notified by email when the results have been decided.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Endgame is a competitive multiplayer mod. Taking inspiration from the game of chess, the objective of each game is killing the enemy's command squad while protecting your own from harm.

    - There are no base buildings, no tech-ing, and no territory capture. The gameplay is entirely about combat and player skill. The mod is designed to be as competitive as possible.

    - Each player starts with a set amount of resources and is unable to gain any more, making each unit precious and irreplaceable.

    - Units are quickly built and walk on from the edges of the map.

    - All the factions are identical: the only difference between the Allies and Axis are the unit models. All players have access to the exact same resources, units, and abilities.
There are no stat differences between the units cross-faction - For example, Riflemen are identical to Volksgrenadiers in every single way.

    - All players start with 3 doctrine points and can choose one major doctrine and one minor doctrine unlock. These unlocks change what units and abilities you have available to use.
Depending on which tree you choose, when your command squad gains veterancy level 3, a single use super-ability will be unlocked. These abilities are extremely powerful and will only last for a short amount of time. Use them wisely!

    - Find the playstyle that fits you the best: choose the doctrine unlocks and purchasable abilities that support the kind of player you are. Are you an aggressive player who likes to have a small but deadly force? Or will you attrition your opponent down slowly but surely? There are twelve doctrines overall to choose from! Even though every player has access to the same units and abilities, it is these choices that define how each army will play.

Sounds very interesting, and I do wonder how advanced the gameplay is. Even though I am not a huge fan of that unit x is a carbon copy of unit y, I think for this kind of gameplay and setup it might be better! Definitely goes on my to try list.

I tried your mod this afternoon,it is very interesting, and I like it ,eh,can you enhanced AI ingame, please?Thank you for your nice work

Thanks for the feedback! I too am not generally a huge fan of games where both sides fight with the same units as one another. My goal with Endgame was to make it so that, even though both sides have access to exactly the same units, through doctrines and unit upgrades there are enough options that neither players' armies will be the same as one another. There are elements from every single vcoh faction that can be unlocked through the doctrines, and my goal has been to provide something for every playstyle: attrition with cheap units, elite strikes with more expensive men, defensive play and offensive play and everything in between.

To alicluo; I've worked a long long time on improving the AI, and it's slowly but surely been getting better as I tweak it more and more. In this current patch, it's as stronger than it has ever been, but there is a lot of work to do, and I'm not the most competent AI coder out there. :3 First and foremost, the game is designed for players to play against one another, so everything else kind of takes a back seat to that, unfortunately.

Thank you so much! I'm looking into having some sort of tournament in the near future (perhaps for some sort of small prizes?). We'll have to see!

Ah I played this mod a lot! It's nice to finally have it on here.

I'm a little confused by this:

    and no territory capture
Yet you are clearly capturing territory in the video.
"There's no explaination for why I survived and others didn't other than when your number is up its your time to go. So now, every morning when I get up - I change my number."

    @Jaffar
Those are victory points. Notice how there is no territory to capture.

Yes, not technically territory but it states "the objective of each game is killing the enemy's command squad while protecting your own from harm".

So its not just kill their command squad - but control points are involved somehow?

Not trying to be difficult - just trying to figure out what the mod's really about without having to DL and try it just yet.

There is both a VP mode and an Annihilate mode, for both the tank battles and the normal command squads.

    ok, thanks

Interesting concept. I do not however like the idea of chess like equality. Why not just play chess?

Medieval Real Time, Mount and Blade style Historical Combat.

    uh, wut?

by "chess like" he meant "both sides have similar units and stats", it would be the equivalent of the Multiplayer for FPS games where, regardless of faction, your character is identical to the enemy

Maybe I should just drop the "both sides have access to the same units" stuff altogether when advertising the mod. People seem to bring it up as ruining the mod (not just here) without actually even trying it out. That's worse than what I had before, which was people insisting that volks were better than riflemen, or that Americans always won because they were OP. At least those people were playing the game. The gameplay is much more diverse than unit A against unit A, because even though both players have access to the same units as one another, your doctrine choices, unit purchases, and upgrades make it so that neither side is exactly the same. It's funny how hard I have to try to sell something that I've been working hard on for two years and am giving away for free. -_-

I think if people give it a try, they will be pleasantly surprised.
I have another patch on the way soon, with bugfixes and balance changes. There's still a lot of work to do on it, and I'm always open to suggestions.

    Thanks!

It's just mirror balance, similar to older games like WarCraft II where both sides have essentially the same units and buildings but with subtle differences.

You can't please everyone. I for one like it. It puts the S back in RTS - strategy - rather than unit types make the difference in the outcome.

However, like alicluo, I'd like AI improvements - I don't/can't play online (I got tired of having to tell people "sorry, I gotta drop out" because the wife, the family, the dog, or clients interrupted).

There's a new version out! I also updated first post with information about the ongoing 1v1 replay tournament going on right now!
