Also, DS1 Power Creep has nothing on this game's power creep. I pretty much won the final fight in 4 harbinger dash spells with no other attacks. It was kind of funny.

    Quick question:
Is there a reward for finishing the first Darksiders before playing the second?

You get a set of shoulder armor if you've played the first one and you get a scythe for completing it. Beware though, the game doesn't check for savefiles to see if you've completed the first one, but rather looks for achievements/trophies.
Make no mistake. War is coming. With all it's glory, and all it's horror...

Yes Afoxi, the "Chaos Fang", which is extremely nice for the first few levels. Even after it starts to weaken, you can keep it equipped for the +20% crit/+200% crit damage and use gauntlets as a secondary weapon to make good use of the bonuses.

I have completely Darksiders 2, so prepare for judgement.

I loved the game. It's meaty, delicious, and while the story is weak, I don't play darksiders for the indepth story telling others seem to expect. I like the story, and the premise, but other than that I don't truely care.

The RPG, platforming, and combat elements have to be the finest blend of design I've ever seen. The Art and Music both deserve massive thumbs up too, as the game looks and sounds amazing. Constructs are very cool, the undead lords are also cool, and the game got a massive facelift over the first one.

I was very excited for the loot system, but its been pretty cruel to me - I've gotten very little in terms of useful drops, and spent most of the game in life regenerating green armour because it was simply the best option to let me regain HP between fights. I later found that Achidna's fangs trigger on critical hits, so I've been making good use of that.

Apocalyptic difficulty was un-necessarily frustrating at times too. Some of the fights are positioned in the worst possible places, and the camera makes some of them absolutely horrific to fight - you'll end up dying to the whims of the camera and the difficulty getting it to dodge in the right direction (when locked on) than anything else. Enemies are merciless and hit for huge chunks of HP until you are powered up.

I will say, agreed on the power creep. Yet again I've gotten to the end of the game, and I am shredding everything with Dodge+Attack.

I've been playing M+K and I've had a blast. The controls at least work very well, and it feels tight and flows well. Getting some of the spells out is a bit tricky however, and Steam interface likes to pop up when your locked on and trying to cast flock at something. I ended up respeccing to Harbringer - casting doesn't seem to cut the mustard.

The graphics were nowhere near as bad as some people were lauding. The worst areas are the items menu (dead looks like a sprite) and ingame shadows (which I didn't pay much attention to or notice until later in the game, when it started to annoy me a little), but otherwise the game does look lush and beautiful, and doesn't have trouble running.

Finally, can I say that I REALLY HATE collectables. Thank god there isn't an achievement for 100 boatman coins, or a secondary quest. Book of the dead, stone bites and relics are MORE than enough.

Darksiders 2 is a solid 9/10, but as above there are enough criticisms to knock that last point off, and I've heard a lot of stories of drop dead bugs. Personally, I found the game to be one of the best releases of the year - it was good enough to knock ME3 off my top spot. The game sucked me in far more.

Also, the most frustrating part is indeed mentioned above. The exclusion of strife and fury (to the point where there is only one mention, at the start of the game, after you receive redemption) is ridiculous. They are key characters to the universe - to War and Death. I mean, Death is acting to clear his brother - where are fury and strife? what are they doing? Why are they ignored so much? Even in DS1 you at least got abilities that alluded to their skills/areas of expertise. In this game they might as well have not existed. I understand the angle Vigil are taking - the slowly, softly approach. I daresay that Strife and Fury are still not fleshed out enough in universe to even make an appearance. Perhaps, with DLC, things will improve.. but I doubt it somehow. The DLC seems fixated on adding new areas/additional gameplay rather than expanding or exploring background or lore - however, that is an assumption given how no details have yet been released.

Strife and Fury will get their own game(unless THQ dies), and i'm pretty sure that Vigil has made that pretty clear, so it probably would be wise to stop expecting them to show up outside of their respective games or the 5th game with all 4 of them. Anyway, this game has been pretty fun, and if Dark Souls hadn't released i'd still be playing it, but i do have problems with it.

Biggest problem i have with the game right now is the lack of a New game++, and New Game+++, and New Game++++, etc, etc. Considering they want to continue supporting the game with mountains of DLC, i hope in the future we get the option to keep playing New Games+ until the end of eternity.

Combos are still too simplistic. Gib moar combos, more complicated combos and lengthier combos.

Last 2 worlds are pathetically small and disappointing and it doesn't sound like the DLC is going to fix that, at least considering the names of the DLC it sounds like only one of them would do something for one of those worlds. Maybe.

Graphics ARE ass, and now that a lot of people seem to have gotten through the 4th world i can post this:

    Spoiler

And finally, how i wish the description of items actually meant something, at one point in the game you get a weapon that says it does ice and fire damage... Except it doesn't, it doesn't do either one of them.

Some of those are nitpicking, but the lack of New Game++, the simplistic combat(it's "too" simplistic imo), and the 2 last worlds being the smallest are big problems imo.

Nope, once you finish New Game+ you're not giving an option to play New Game++, the game just ends and if you load the save file again it puts you right before the last boss.

As for your spoiler, you're insane and the game constantly shoves the camera on character's faces, so it's hardly a problem of anyone being "too close" to the screen.

Oh, also, I am 95% certain that Strife is the next Horseman we will see. Perhaps we'll get a damn explanation as to why he keeps losing his guns all over the place.

Still on my first playthrough. Just took out The Wailing Host in the Dead City. It was easier than a lot of the fights leading up to it. When it was clear I was facing a "bad@ss" (read: big mutha effer), I wondered how many times I'd die. But then the skellies came along; I laughed to myself and said "thanks!" out loud. I plowed into them all with the Arachnid gauntlets and just attackhealed until it was all over.

Then my Windows 360 controller shorted out. Gotta fetch some electronics kit to fix it before I can play on. Driving into a college town during the weekend before classes start...it'll be like a real life h*ll.

    Should be worth it .

Why? It would only be fitting. We're talking RPG/shooter, right? That'd be interesting in this setting.

  14. #164
Because it sounds fucking boring compared to the first 2 games, and because i think it would be more interesting for someone to make a "zelda" game where the main character uses ranged weapons. Instead of a shooter game that happens to be like Zelda.

I remain hopeful since Vigil has said that THQ hasn't given the green light for a Darksiders III, so those positions probably aren't for a Darksiders game.

Well, if THQ doesn't go down, I think Strife would actually make a really cool game. Imagine a mix between Space Marine's shooting elements and Darksiders' melee combat and dungeon crawling? Sounds like a winning combination to me =).

May help those nVidia users with regards to making Darksiders II look nicer. Can't test it myself, unfortunately.

And that's the reason I never visit Metacritic and that site should probably die a painful and horrible death.

Argul's Tomb DLC came out (and I believe one adding a bunch of sidequests did as well) on the... 26th-ish.

Argul's tomb is divided into 3 parts: 2 dungeons and a sidequest. The dungeons are actually fairly challenging in terms of puzzle solving - involves a lot of use of the voidwalker and deathgrip. You also get all the items necessary to complete the dungeons even if you're not that far in the normal campaign (or new game+). The dungeons themselves are all fairly short, though.

I would recommend you don't buy it, though. It costs $7 for what amounts to a little over an hour of gameplay. If you preordered you probably have the dlc already, but otherwise the price seems too steep for what you're getting. The most enjoyable part was the side quest - a cave where you get an apparently new weapon. I believe it's called the hellgore. It's basically an explosive spear launcher. I say "apparently new" because I was using one in the main campaign - the tooltips for it were fucked up, but it was still perfectly usable.
