    Alternatives to Storm Trooper models

While Im taking an involuntary month off from the hobby (long story though nothing serious), I've been going through various ideas in my head for what armies I could restart the hobby with. With regards to Imperial Guard, does anyone have any suggestions on how I could convert GW models to be Storm Troopers as I love the metal models, but would prefer not to use them.

    Thanks for any help.
    I have a blog, check it out :P - http://forthegloryofgorkandmork.blog...commander.html - brand new post 11/04/13

I use scout legs with normal cadian torso's and forge world rebreathers for my veterans, maybe you could do the same for your vets? Just change the lasgun slightly, and add a backpack of some sort (secret weapon miniatures do some) and I think that would look pretty good. Pretty expensive though, you will be looking at at least £10 for the legs from bitz sites, as well as the torsos, rebreathers etc.

Heres a terribly photographed example of mine:

Just had a thought, Space Marine Snipers with the silencer clipped off and FW rebreathers?

I actually really like your conversion there Arid. Its simple yet different enough to help distinguish them.
What im using as Stormtroopers are Forgeworlds Death Korp Engineers. However, my Guard army is based around Death Korps infantry so they likely work better in that situation.
And scouts can easily be converted to stormtroopers as they are about the same height and with a little work they look very nice (namely with head swapping)

Pig Iron Productions has a bunch of Stormtrooper-clone guys (4x Standard 1x Heavy for £9):

You might want to head swap and gunswap them though if you're into the strict Stormtrooper look- their heads are also used commonly by a lot of people. They're also metal too, so that would make conversions a pain in the neck especially if you wanted to chop the guns off and put something lasgunny there instead of just 'tacked on'.

Kromlech also does some nice torsos, just found these:

Then maybe add shoulder pads to beef them out, maybe using Maxmini's combat armour legs (or you could instead use their combat armour torsos as the others have a confederate feel about them):

From there on you can build up what it can look like (i.e. adding Guardsman arms and modified guns/heads from Pig Iron/Forgeworld/Bald SM Rebreatheragers), just some ideas anyway.

i use pig irons heavy infantry as storm troopers. the weapons are so generic, you can pretend that they're anything you want.
or you can take normal guys. shave down a vox backpack a bit, run a pice of guitar wire between the lasgun and the vox. greenstuff some elbow/knee pads on to represent carapace and viola.
