Those screen shots look pretty interesting and I like the premise. It is a kickstarter though. I don't know why people aren't talking about this! Sure the unit design looks blocky and what not, but that doesn't make me not want it. I played and enjoyed Rage, but the low res textures didn't make me hate the game.

Edit: 900k USD collected and they still have a few days left to donate. They could make some of their stretch goals.
Edit#2: 1.1 Million USD stretch goal reached. Water planets are in.
Edit#3: 1.3 Million USD stretch goal reached. Gas Giants and Improved orbitals.
Edit#4: 1.5 Million USD stretch goal reached. DEATH STARS!
Edit#4: 1.8 Million USD stretch goal reached. Galactic WAR!
    Edit#5: 2.1 Million USD pledged!

Supreme Commander is easily in my top three RTS games of all time. Color me interested.

900k seems like a really tall order, though.

...I really want to stick engines on an asteroid and drive it into an enemy base!

Looks very interesting, 900k seems like a massive target, really hope these guys can make it.

Looks like it could be very cool. I'll be looking forward to this.

Keep in mind that those screenshots are only visual gameplay presentation. Precisely the same thing that DoW 2 visualisation was. The real gameplay might be something totally different, or something way better than the visualisation promises. Still, it looks like Total Annihilation meets Spore Space stage and decided to have space rock babies.

    FUCCCCCCCKK!!!! funded (well 15 bucks).

Now only need to get a SS3 and FS3 kickstarter going.

I would pony up 500 bucks for either of them in a heartbeat.

I kinda figured that those "screen shots" were concept art; just a representation of what the devs think the game is going to look like. I doubt the game is anywhere out of the concept phase of development so it could turn out to look very different in its final release form. Strapping engines onto planetary bodies and using them as mobile base of operations / missiles / weapons platforms makes me rather hot and bothered. I'll probably end up throwing some money at this myself just for the sake of its potential.

Can you imagine: taking an asteroid, putting over sized guns, and engines on it then parking it in geosynchronous orbit over your opponents base. That shit makes my dick rock hard!

At the rate in which I shell for Kickstarter game projects, I'm going to find myself with a ton of "free" games in the future.

This project NEEDS to succeed, I love TA and the first SupCom with the Forged Alliance expansion (SupCom 2 sucks!).

I wanna see rock missiles. That's what's wrong with gaming today; not enough rock missiles.

Were the devs who were behind Supcom responsible for Forged Alliance or just the original game? Because I still consider pre-Forged Alliance Supcom to be kind of awful.

I couldn't tell the difference to be fair.

Fish of Doom: Don't get too excited, it's just a Kickstarter.

It's like ModDB, more of a wishlist rather than a sure thing.

As soon as I saw the moonbase with its interplanetary Kbot-cannon I wanted to support it. And then they made the asteroid base.

Really really hope this one goes through. Kicktraq has it trending towards nearly 200% funding right now, but trends usually overshoot hugely this early in the process and I fear even the 900k goal will be a bit of an uphill battle.
    Winter is coming.

Unit balance got wildly redone in FA. Most notably T1 AA turrets (the UEF ones anyway) gained the ability to lead their target. Which... made them useful at all. Pre FA (as an experiment) I made a 5x5 block of AA turrets with radar coverage and got a friend to patrol a tier 1 bomber over them on hold fire. It did lots and lots of passes before they even landed a single hit.

Strange titbit from the interviews: the planets will appear round, but the topography the planetside units move on will be "much more like a rectangular wrapping battlefield than it is like an actual round planet". I think by that he means a torus, i.e. crossing the east edge means you appear at the west, crossing the north edge means you appear at the south and vice versa. To me it seems that wouldn't make things easier for the player, but rather provide them with Portal-level topographical brain twisting. I guess I'd have to see them in action to judge accurately, though.

I pledged 50 bucks. I loved Total Annihilation as a kid. Wonder if they're going to bring back 3rd party units?

This looks to be full of win. Also to be incredibly difficult to manage in a long game.

The thing that annoys me is that they don't plan to make a SP campaign (or they reserve the idea for a stretch goal). I hope they change their minds, SP campaigns were one of my favorite features of TA and SupCom.

Well, they are up to 200,000 USD from like 2,000 USD yesterday!

Wonder if they're going to bring back 3rd party units?
They could always do something like Steam Workshop for unit and maps. It would be interesting.

Hmm. Not so interested in PvP multiplayer, but skirmishing against the AI suits me fine. Pitched in $50. I hope we get a singleplayer. They've got the Total Annihilation narrator on hand, so the original approach suits me fine. Make the maps, give me an objective, I'll blow hours on it.

I was hesitant at first, but then I remembered that Castle Story was asking for $80k and they're sitting slightly above $500k at time of writing.
I really hope this succeeds (I threw $40 at it).

Pledged $20. Fairly excited. I actually like the graphics style, should make it easy to colourise units, which is always fun.

Well I guess I was onion-rolled, you link switcher!

SupCom2 was not very interesting and the design on the PA cartoon looks a bit like it. However it wasnt the art design of SupCom2 which was boring (I didnt buy it) it was the gameplay (I tried the demo). I like the premise of PA which is very imaginative and the gameplay looks like it could be a gas.

Plus people dont leave their studio of success and set up shop with a rival studio because they want to do more of the same old that their previous studio ended up doing (snore@gpg) (btw FA Forever has a better game browser than GPGs ever was, GPG was a bit pathetic at times). On the other hand while Uber's MNC looks fun it also looks like a TF2 clone and people who clone dont have originality on their side. However I dont think there is anything preceding PA with orbital warfare, OK there is angry birds space and that flash game with a space penguin in it looking for his space ship and lets not forget KSP, but PA is clearly a work of some originality and that is the kind of creativity I am happy to back.

I like the stretch goals, bit sad they are not available for $900k but I thought about that and the reality of dev costs and the fact they are supporting Linux from the get go and decided it was kosher and upped my usual entry level contribution to a princely $50 which is top dollar for a new PC game in the UK, which seems fair to me, also gets me into the beta where I will no doubt make a nuisance of myself as usual. So you have got to contribute at least $40 if you want to get in the beta too and make sure I dont ruin the game... (where do you find a smiley flipping the bird when you need one?)

    900K goal reached!

I am happy to see they've spent 900k on that magnificent red cowboy hat.

Also, I really love the music.

  37. #37
Not sure if it'll reach any of the stretch goals, but what the hell. $120 pledged.

  38. #38
$100k away from Stretch Goal #1 (Water/Naval) and 13 days.

  39. #39
60K away from Stretch Goal #1 and 13 days left.

But seriously, Stretch Goal #3 confirmed to be Death Stars. Oh gods please reach that.

I doubt they are going to make it to metal planets but water planets seem like a possibility.

  41. #41
    http://www.kicktraq.com/projects/659...eneration-rts/

Based on the current trend funding has remained stationary for most of the Campaign at roughly $60K a day. Assuming it keeps on track metal planets will be in. Thats not to say the campaign wont peter off or start to reduce in support as time goes on but support thus far has been fairly steady.

Plus success of the stretch goals doesn't necessarily mean those features wont be implemented but that we may get them later as DLC / Map packs or an expansion pack.

I am quite excited about this as I was a big fan of Total Annihilation back in the day.
Nothing like a good old Jeffy rush to clog up metal planets.
Kickstarter does make me a bit nervous though.

Damn I wish I could be happy over this thing but ever since I first went online with RTS I realized it's not fun to play against humans. :I The efficient way of RTS playing is neither fun to do nor fun to defend against. Anyway the spherical map thing with non-symmetric procedual generation sounds very cool.
The comparisation of Starcraft 1 and 2 stories is like the starwars prequels compared to the first 3 movies.

  48. #48
I'm of a similar mind, which is why I'm seriously hoping that they can build this game and manage to sign on (unless they have one already) and develop a good AI for the game. I don't need a story mode, just skirmish

  49. #49
Same here, I only found competetive multiplayer RTS fun when I've a team of friends. Then you can get a good laugh even out of getting your asses horribly obliterated.

We've already seen Sorian announce he's interested in doing an AI mod like he did for Supreme Commander, so it's looking pretty hopeful on that score.
