The Joys of custom games and player base.

A quick note about this game and it's current status.

I had the pleasure of doing a few custom 3v3's with Codex and Pocktio yesterday. We had some very intense games in my opinion and got games almost immediately.
The player base seems to be between 1500-2000 in the evening(GMT), so if you feel the need to play this wonderful game it is still very much an option I'd say.

There's is now also a balance mod(Admin please delete if I'm out of line on this on), which can be found on the mod forum I'm pretty sure. This should balance the game some more and introduces new units as well.

So all in all, you can still indulge in the awesome WH40K universe from this platform and get great gaming from it.

    Enjoy!

Oh by the various Gods my Chaos meta is so terrible, so terribly rusty.....

    Think I'll stick to Apoth!

I'm not surprised. Anything within three feet of you seems to end up full of knife shaped holes.

Apoth is still reasonably viable, especially in 1v1. However he has been hammer nerfed.

I have used apoth during the good times and the bad. And Pock totally stole my idea.

Myself and Troubleshooter (and sometimes Octo) have been having some good games recently. It is still very possible to get games in ranked, though the ranks are totally screwed.

If only Relic had fixed the IG heavy weapons team bug before they left the game to die

The amount of times people say Relic left the game to die, it's a wonder I (the annointed White Knight of Relic ) haven't had an aneurysm yet.

Relic supported the game fantastically. No support lasts forever.

I do agree it's annoying that the IG HWT bug wasn't fixed, however I'm under the impression that DoW II support lacked programmers (with regards to bugfixing) for some months prior to the game's final patch. As a result, said bug was never in a position where it was able to be fixed (again, unfortunately).

I am thankful that the game is still active, however. I'm fully looking forward to getting back into TLS (and perhaps custom MP) when I get settled with a new job/apartment (damn job hunting); there's a really good modification I'm looking forward to trying out (features the Grey Knights, I would link but plugging is Bad).

DOW2 support history is definitely laudable, no argument here.

The problem, I believe, people have with the final state of the game is that both the HWT bug and the apparently OP Catachans have been itroduced in one of the latest patches. If they were not to be fixed, I think it would have been better to simply revert the game to the point where these issues were non-existant? I believe we would have an overall more enjoyable game to play at it's final stage.

I think the HWT issue was introduced as a result of attempting to workaround the HWT squad being able to deploy more than one heavy weapon at once. Which, arguably, would be more broken than even Catachans in their current form.

I could be wrong there; I don't (and have never) play(ed) as IG.

Havin(ing) not (ever) played as IG, (I) would suggest refraining from commenting on HWT bugs (and balance issues) since attempts at (previously referenced) commenting on (said) balance issues could be miscontrued as (heresay) (heretical) conjecture largely overshadowed by (aforementioned HWT) said unit's probability to bug out and (possibly) exhibit dual functioning weapons. Does a (malfunctioning) unit with a (slight) propensity for (possibly) exhibiting dual weapon functions mean that Catachans (in their current form) are OK? (Possibly) I'm not sure (but) (as they say) a bird (in hand) is worth two in the bush.

It is impressive how thread about possibly good games and tries to draw some ppl to this game turned
(again) in discussion how this game bugged, broken and dying... jeez

P.S. btw, still enjoyng Armageddon, I wonder how single modder (without godblessed skillz and funding)
doing something global and balanced compared with what it is now...
