40k Starter Set - "Dark Vengeance" leaked, best starter set ever.

I'll let the pics do the talking:

Holy shit those are the best freaking starter set models I have ever seen. Look at the Hellbeast! LOOK AT IT

Release set to be the first weekend of September, with pre-orders on the 25th. Teaser video here:

What do you think? Best starter set ever? Who's going to be picking this up?

Damn you arid!! I just these and was about to post about it too xD

My thoughts.. The Choas Models look absolutely stunning. If the chosen are any indication of what the new chaos SM models will look like when they get their new codex
    release, colour me very excited.

However. The Dark Angel models look rather drab when you compare them to the CSM ones The Librarian looks nice, and the chaplain does too (i love that they made the Crozius (the mace, if i got the name wrong :P) the same as ive been doing to mine with the angel over the eagle :P ) But the rest look just like regular marines.

Im rather considering getting this set just for the choas models as i think they would work really well for the Alpha Legion Force i want to do ... we'll see.. hopefully these sets arent limited editions so i can get it later if i want.

Edit: The cultists also look ace. It seems like they took a small page from FW with how they did theirs and adapted them.

Is it me or have the Chaplains recently been suffering from a bad syndrome of goofy deathmasks/bad posing? I'm comparing this to the Chaplain in Terminator Armour which DA players bring along because he's badass (and technically a monster with the wounds he has) plus in my mind one of the best models GW's smelted:

Look at that sinister gaze, if you were a Chaos cultist you would probably soil yourself compared to..

    Figure No.1

    Figure No.2

    Figure No.3

Even Lemartes doesn't sort of look right with his posing and with this new Interrogator Chaplain it looks like he's saying "I am so happy right now!" instead of the sinister skull rictus grins the old models have.

I do like the other stuff especially the bikers though, the Assault Cannon Deathwing I think is too static in its pose however.

I'll be buying two boxes and swapping both sets of DA (minus the limited Chaplain) for two more sets of Chaos, so that'll give me 4 Lords, 24 Chosen, 80 Cultists and 4 Brutes. HELL YEAH!
    I have a blog, check it out :P - http://forthegloryofgorkandmork.blog...commander.html - brand new post 11/04/13

Jesus Christ those Chosen actually look . . . Chosen.

Codex: Chaos Legions content, right there.

Yeah, fully satisfied with the way the Chosen look and those Cultists are bang on, although I do hope the Chaos marines have something like possessed boltguns, hell ammo or something.. given they've been stuck in the warp with limited numbers, fighting constantly, raiding xeno worlds with equal warp horrors.. simple boltgun seems lacking.

Something about those cultists looked a bit familiar to me, then it hit me-

If they were to re-release necromunda with plastics of the quality found in that starter set I might just piss my pants.

  11. #11
No questions asked. I want 2 of these boxed sets. Even though I don´t collect Dark Angels. Not collecting Chaos either. I still want 2 boxes. At least some of these minis I can use for other Space Marine Chapters/Groups.

Apparently the limited edition Chaplain will feature in first run starter boxes and then after that no more.

Um... duh!!! GIMME GIMME GIMME!!! Not a DA fan, but I've been using DA to augment my BT since 2000, so those DW termies are only a hint of GS away from being Sword brethren!

But the real tasty bits are these new cultists, AMAZING!!! Can't wait for the new CSM book!

So the exact same as the starter set now? Not bad for 48 models, a rulebook and some dice and crap.

In spite of my cynicism towards GW, I must say those are damn fine models.

What the bloody hell is a Hellxute? Looks abit like a dreadnought. Can anyone one enlighten me?

$99/$107 is none to shabby, but TWS is being wrinkly about if they will have enough stock on the LE's. Um, I'll be pre-ordering same second they announce!

Its probably them being limited by the NDA. All gw staff had to sign one to deny any existance of any starter set (despite the damn thing being leaked before the NDA's were even issued), so wouldnt be much of a stretch to imagine Independant Stockists are being limited in what they say by something similar.

I was under the impression a hellbrute was a MC. Could have completely missread it tho.

*Golum voice* Weeeee wants it *End Golum voice*

EDIT: Probably wrong about the Hellbrute sounds like it is a dreadnought.

Civik, there are a bunch of independants in Seattle as well. I can't imagine it's that far of a drive.

  33. #33
Have you experienced seattle traffic lately? Its unpredictable at the best of times. Checked the GW site for the indie stores and I know them all, I think that Seattle Wargaming closed earlier this year due to medical problems for the owner (which would have been closest). Since I would be commuting from west seattle, I kinda get screwed with all the construction going on. And even without it, traffic can be a nightmare unless you travel at either 6am or around 1 pm after the lunch hour. In order to get to any of those stores, I need to have an afternoon during the week(since most GW and indie retailers don't open until noon or later) and hope I can be on my way before the traffic starts happening around 3:00(the floating bridges are actually the largest passenger boats on the water).

The fastest to get to of all the stores from here is still the Bellevue Bunker because it is at the crossroads of I90 and I405. During the week, traffic can be maddening, during the weekends my time is taken by my kids. It simply isn't convenient or worth my time to visit a brick and mortar(in spite of how much I like James and the crew at the bunker).

Have you looked up the Gameshire? Cool little store.

And yeah, I remember some Seattle traffic. Yuck.

The thing is, though, it says it is equiped with a Power Fist. Going by 5th eddition (have't seen the 6th eddition rule book yet), walkers don't have Power Fists, they have Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons.
So, I say that, although it is visually a messed up (well, possessed / corrupted) Dreadnought, I would expect its datasheet to list it as a Monstrous Creature.

    @Ruzdreg:
Walkers can have and in most chases have powerfists in 6th Ed. (Walkers cancel out the Ini Malus though) - DCCs as weapon category are gone the way of Pariah as far as the BRB is concerned
    Warhammer 40.000-Armies:
    * Night Lords: 8th Company, "The Just" (Unalinged Chaos Space Marines)
    * Cabal Of Eternal Silence (Kabalite Dark Eldar)
    * The Seekers of Iybraesil (Craftworld Eldar)

Then, if it is a walker, those Dark Angels are going to have a hard time taking it down with the weapons they get in that set. Apart from the Terminators' Power Fists / Chain Fist, the Dark Angels don't seem to have anything specially designed to take out vehicles. Well, unless their Captains / Sergents get Melta-Bombs.....

Rumor has the Hellbrute with the same stats as a normal Chaos Dread in the current 'dex ... so the 2 plasma guns, 1 cannon and 1 pistol are actually sufficient firepower to take it down

Just secured my 2nd set of Chosen from boxes going to be shared in my gaming club can't wait for boxes to ready for order and then dispatch -- that will be a strech

WD has the box at £65. Limited edition is just the initial run, there is no extra charge for the chaplain - you just have to buy early.

There are no stats in the WD. And pretty much nothing else in there either... No hints at the release of Chaos which I'm guessing is the GDUK BIG THANG (which would be great - and I hope no spoilers get out beforehand).

I'm actually really impressed with this and at £65 it looks as though it's going to be good value for money.
    One question though -

Are both armies legal, or will they require additional units?

Not a DA or Chaos player, hence the bone question.

Looks like Chaos will be legal (2 troops units of cultists). DA, probably not as there's only 1 troops unit there.

Aren't Deathwing Termis and Ravenwing Bikers troops for DA players as well? (Full Terminator Deathwing is a legal army AFAIK)
So both armies would be legal...

The Dark Angels in the set make a really good ally for armies like Tau and Eldar. Ready made heavy hitters for your light armies.

For now, just assume that you can split the tac squad and count it as two troops. As for the deathwing rules, we'll see later if they are allowed to be troops or not, this may be setup for a new rulebook.

  47. #47
I'm thinking about doing DA instead, apparently they get to re-roll failed Gets Hot! Saves and vehicles get to roll 4+ instead, all due to them having advanced knowledge of plasma weapons.

If you look at the Chosen Champion with the power maul in the 360 view you will see that on his back is a bolter...being reloaded by a tentacle!

The level of detail and character on these models is simply stunning to me. As a long time chaos player I am absolutly psyched for this set. I am even going to paint up the DA's as Angels of Absolution or something. I kind of want to do a set peice with the raven wing sergeant doing a chain sword drive by.

  49. #49
Ok. There. The Pre-order is in. Changed my mind and took just 1 Warhammer 40k Starter Box and 1 Starter Box of Warhammer Fantasy instead.
Anyways, I can sit back, relax, and just wait for my package to arrive. It´s such a joy.

Holy crap that red chaos dreadnaught-lordy thing merge is awsome.
The comparisation of Starcraft 1 and 2 stories is like the starwars prequels compared to the first 3 movies.
