Fluff Who is going to be here in 2020? Cylarne's Fun Thread

    Hello DOW Community.

I just had a terrible evil idea that may take over the world small little idea (while waiting for my stupid program to finish updates) of who is going to be here and who is not going to be here in the DOW Community in 2020. Why 2020? Random year, random number, nothing too short ahead of time because I know already who may/may not be here in the next couple of years, but in 2020, when I am gone (not dead), bring me the future! Better than saying 2017 for say... or is it? This year may give us the idea or not if you are going to be here in the DOW Community in the far future! So are you going to be here in say eight years from now, or do you not think so, or will you have no clue at all? Feel free to participate and share! I (Cylarne) will be interested in hearing anyone's opinion and awesome future plans. I also promise to be quiet and not reply so much for those of you who hate me for doing that.

    By the way when deciding:
    - I recommend not sticking to date, for example, "I am not going to be here in 2020, but I will be here in 2021." I mean; the point is, it is more or less the general thesis if you are in the DOW Community by this time.
    - Feel free to bring drama into your post, make it sad, very sad. Optional.
    - Feel free to screw this thread not share.
    - Feel free to say the date you will may leave the DOW Community.
    - Feel free to vote in that poll I made.
    - If you go bye bye soon this present year, well dang it we'll miss ya. Definitely give out a speech.

    To sum up:
    - Are you going to be in the DOW Community in 2020?
    - Would you like to share your thoughts? If you have no idea what is going on in 2020, that is totally ok.
    - Feel free to reply below in this thread and gain our interests, and don't forget to make the public poll!
    - Fun thread. Drama, laughing, and futuristic goodbyes wanted!

So I guess I'll start because I call first post!

I am not going to be here or active in the DOW Community in 2020, probably not even modding for fun at all. I think I will be entirely leaving in like 2015-2018, because I until I am rich have to make a good living or else we go in debt and lose our house. So how I would do that... publish my game and get filthy rich (hopefully). Gain a great job and perhaps see my mod all finished and in action. I am certainly going to miss lots and lots of people when I am gone, because it has been one hell of a DOW Community. But well I'll save that speech for when I leave.

I'll probably hand out medals of honor to my team mates in 2013 of being great team members and friends (especially) and that moment is not too far away.

I think my mod is going to die in 2020. Most people will move on from DOW I and probably onto like DOW IV and mod from there. Too low population in DOW I I think, and I hope to gawd my favorite mods such as the Thousand Sons, IDH mod, Firestorm Over Kronus, Dark Angels mod, Craftworld mod, Dawn of Coalescence, Tyranids mod, ASID mod, Christ the long awaited Battlefleet Gothic mod and a few more unreleased, I hope you guys make the most fabulous of all mods.

I don't believe in the 2012 Apocalypse crisis here on Earth, screw that belief.

Lots and lots to think about with 7+ years time. I'm not sure entirely how my future will turn out in the DOW Community, but one and all I'll visit sometimes, definitely check out progress, and if there are needs of updates for my mod, I guess I'll do them. And then the relief of not modding anymore... can't wait.

So yeah that's all I have on the top of my head. Feel free to share and I hope this thread does not die in 2020.

    SCIENCE!

Ive been around here and through a couple of user names since Homeworld modding took off, Um Late 90s?
Will I be around in 2020 I don't know. If relic increases its modding community I mightn't be needed.

If I get fragged at work I don't think I will be able to contribute at that point. :P
Working in mental health is a risk.

What keeps me coming back, is not always the community as the community is not always enjoyable because of large attitudes and large egos.
But there are a portion without the ego and attitude that make time spent here enjoyable.

It is mainly the game and the modding that keeps me coming back... If DOW wasn't released I don't think I would of come back being a huge 40k fan for over 20 years.
Homeworld series HW, HW:C, HW2. was fun to mod and play but not enough to keep my attention.
Homeworld mods for star trek, star wars, robotech, freespace and nefarious others, kept my attention for a good 12 months.
DOW has kept my attention longer since I was part of the beta and took a group of junior gamers through it with me(yes they were all over age) as they all were fans of 40k. Expanding their current knowledge of 40k and contributing opinions on how things were or weren't codex. yaking up 12 months in early 00's

These last couple of years being able to get time and have a suitable and conducive environment towards modding has helped keep my attention this time.
I have always enjoyed modding since the late 80's and this is the best of both worlds. My hobby and modding.

I would hope that DOW is still modding in 2020 on legacy machines but I wouldn't be too sure about that. as it is beyond the decade of game life.
But what do I know as XCOM UFO is still playable on either legacy machines or Dos Box. that almost 20 years old.
I always keep legacy machines around for a trip down memory lane at any time. :P They aren't that hard to repair.. and I had been in pc industry for many years and it is now a hobby.

If Relic gets smarter bringing out their games making the capacity to have multiple clients for the one engine I might be tempted to stay beyond 2030.
Clients for legacy machines as well as bloated clients for top end machines.

It will be an interesting 8 years.

I've been here since the start of DoW, some 8 years ago. I'll be here when the lights go off, be those the lights of my mortality or those of the forum.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also present from the beginning. And I continued to follow the developments for the pleasure of seeing the Mods change. D0W is part of a generation of games that tend to disappear. (In conflict with the interests of the video game lobbies. DLC, virtual shops). These are games sandbox that allow customers / players / modders / artists live their hobbies leisure relatively healthy.

The real problem is the dematerialization of physical media.

    I really don't know!
Next year I will end school, maybe take a year abroad (British Isles i think) and after that I want to go to the Games Academy in Berlin to get schooled being a Game Designer. (dang it, can't even translate it properly from german :/ sorry)
After that I really would like to go to Vancouver, Canada and study Game Design on the Vancouver Film School, but it looks like I have to win the Lottery first^^
So there will be much change in my life in the next 5-8 years so I really don't know.. But I think I will look here from time to time..
    The machine is strong.
We have to seperate from the weak, accused flesh and replace it with the pure, holy metal.
We can only triumph with its durability, we can only win with the machine.
Punish the flesh, harden your mind and body.
    Praise the machine!
