    The Expendables 2: I'M BACK

So, best movie in the history of cinema just came out. Sorry everyone that's not Stallone, your movies suck now, they aren't The Expendables.

With a gripping plot, incredible characters, a sweeping tale of romance and loss, and stellar performances by the entire cast, The Expendables 2 is clearly a must-see hit of the summer. Who else saw the greatest batch of testosterone and 80s ever produced? Favorite scenes?

But for reals this movie rocks, there's somehow even less plot and even worse dialogue than the last one and there's like 3x the action, the entire movie is just a running action scene with small interruptions for jokes about Arnold or the others. Wish the A-Team vans were used more but they rocked. Liked the church scene with Statham a lot.

    Spoiler

Smart Car scene was the highlight though.

Even worse plot and dialogue than the last one? I'll skip it.

Sure it had a lot of action, but it was pretty mediocre and not creative. Like Transformers wasn't a great movie, but it's action scenes featured Transformers. Also it was really lame when it took Li and Statham (armed) to beat up one (unarmed) guy.

The movie's just nonstop fun and it's thoroughly entertaining if you came to see old 80s stars relive their glory days and shoot hundreds of guys, but yeah legit the plot is "kill Van Damme," that's it. Also Stallone, Arnold, and Bruce Willis beat Optimus any day.

Another thing, the majority of this movie is the Expendables fighting as a team (sans Jet Li, who has one cool scene at the beginning then leaves for the rest of the movie which sucks). The first one had a lot of solo scenes and one on ones for all of the characters, this one is much more oriented on the group running and gunning for two hours. Very ridiculous and very fun, it literally takes them like two minutes to start shooting people and the first 10 minutes like 50 guys get murderized.

    Also when Arnold first appears,

    Spoiler

So many action movie references and jokes.

I definitely agree on all three counts. Read that Harrison Ford, Steven Seagal and Nicholas Cage are gonna be in the third one hopefully, can't wait.

I can't wait to see this.

The first film was pretty awesome and from the trailers for the second I have no doubt it's going to be epic as well. Now all I need to do is convince the other half to go with me...

I ignore so called 'expert critics' since they effectively got Outcasts cancelled.

Why do people (especially in the industry) listen to these buffoons?

Anyway, I am looking forward to watching this, enjoyed the first one but then I actually liked 80's style action movies, not everything needs to be high art or subtitled.

Van Damne(sp?) caused a bit of a stir when he said Seagal needed to lose weight before being in third film, he is a bit fat :P

Jean Claude Van Damme hates the shit out of Steagal.

The bass in the movie was so loud in the theater I saw it in that every gunshot (which had a high probability of making a man's head explode) made the theater tremble. The best way I've seen it summed up is its basically a more violent GI Joe cartoon. The villain's name is Vilain for God's sake. The film has no subtlety or tact and I love it for it.

Definitely one of the most fun films to hit the cinema in a long time. I had a stupid grin on my face for the whole thing.

So many cheesy one liners and in-jokes.

Saw it yesterday to avoid the weekend release crowd.

The theater actually cheered several times. Seeing the audience get engaged like that doesn't happen a whole lot. I'd call that a success.

BTW, fun fact for those who have seen the movie and thus will get this: Dolph Lundgren actually is a chemical engineer (and really, really smart) in real life. That's the second part of the joke in that scene.

Loved it, Vanne Damme was the best thing in it, he got Stallone to re-write the ending for an old fashioned 80s brawl as opposed to a helicopter chase.

Plus he's still able to do jumping spin kicky shit. Amazing.

    Greatest film of all time.

It took me 3 tries to get into the first one. I'll wait for Netflix.

This is one of those films that is best watched in theaters, because the movie is simply a delivery vehicle for explosions and gunfire. Thus, the money you spend paying for the big screen and massive sound systems is well spent compared to your average plot oriented film where you don't lose as much by watching on a TV.

Actually I think the exact opposite.

This is one of those films that isn't worth the money and drive to the theater, but does well at home where you can mock it with your friends without disrupting the movie for other people who paid for it.
It takes a lot of argument

My thoughts exactly, gonna wait and probably see it at home, with friends and a couple of beers.

Also, the tendency to see such movies over the "plot intensive" ones in theatres makes for even more "pure action/fx zero plot" movies being produced, as they are more commercially successful as a result, and I think we have enough of these.

Sorry, you're wrong. We do not have nearly enough movies like The Expendables.

Also this movie is definitely worth a theater viewing, not just for the sound system. Never had as awesome a movie experience as a theater full of guys cheering every time Arnold appears. No one cares if you're talking because there's no plot to miss and everyone is already laughing and having a good time of it anyway. The movie knows its audience and is perfect for them.

Also Chuck looks great for being 72 but his age shows in his scenes, he doesn't do any impressive stunts like Stallone and Van Damme. Still badass though.

Loved the chuck norris cobra bit. The number of quickly disposed vehicles was ridiculously over the top as well.

How are you supposed to permanently damage your hearing due to the bass without also destroying your sound system that way?

I think Arnold had the best line in the movie.

I usually hate stupid special effects movies but I absolutely loved this one. I guess it was because of all the actors. I mostly stick with thought provoking, intelligent movies that make you think but not this time. It was pretty dumb but it works with these guys in it. So many childhood memories. I am usually pretty quiet and focussed when watching a movie, but there were a few times when I couldn't help bursting out laughing. So many nods to great action movies. I especially loved the part where Arnold bursts through the rock wall in a drill machine (like Total Recall). If you didn't grow up watching 80's and 90's action movies, I guess this movie won't hold much magic for you, but I loved it.

I never saw the first one though, I need to check it out.

Well I have refrained from looking at any spoilers but two movies im itching to see are Expendables 2 and Bourne Legacy, in fact I may pop into Brighton soon and watch one.

If you dont like the Expendables, then BAH HUMBUG! You have to take the film at what it is, mindless fun for a male audience. I really liked the first one, and I keep hearing people say the second one is very good. I'm also a a HUGE fan of things involving spooks, black ops, CIA, one man against all, hence why im also anxious to see Legacy.

    Legacy, definitely.

Expendables? The first one made me feel like my brains were bleeding out of my ears. I can't imagine my reaction to the second will be much different. That said, listening to Stallone in particular discussing, well, all sorts of things on the Radio 4 Film Show (I think that's its name) was quite interesting, get beyond the unintelligible grunting in his films and he's quite educated and lucid about cinema and politics. Not so much Schwarzenegger, but what did you expect from the Governator?

Stallone was starved of oxygen at birth which resulted in his distinctive slurring. Which is a shame because he is a very bright guy with a level of itensity, interest in the arts and dedication that could have seen him become a great classical actor.

I plan on seeing Legacy before the Expendables 2 for two reasons.
    1. I haven't seen The Expendables yet.
    2. I've seen the Bourne trilogy, I like Jeremy Renner and the Bourne trilogy was such a departure from the novels that I don't care how much Legacy shakes things up.
    3. Rachel Weisz is hot.
Also I like that they're not following Lustebader's Legacy novel and subsequent continuations. Decent novels in themselves, but not a patch on Ludlum and kinda unrealistic as Bourne is supposed to be about 60 by the time of the novel(s).

It helps that the Bourne trilogy was also excellent. And while Legacy doesn't involve Greengrass or Damon, I like that it still has one of the most important guys (writer) involved. Plus Renner is alarmingly talented and Weisz is equally good. Last thing I saw her in that I really enjoyed was Page 8 on BBC1 actually, though it was last year.

    I have seen both.

    Expendables 2 is cinematic fun!

Legacy was like..... nope. Well made but completely and utterly pointles, far less fun.
