    Music Which song is this?

    Hello,
I extracted and collected the soundtracks for all four dow games, and there is a song that I heard in-game that I can't seem to find... Could you tell me which one it is? Its the one where the choir chants, domine, domine... slowly, and its kind of a tense song... any ideas?
    Thanks!

If you extracted all the game files it should have a file name, and likely someone put it on youtube. Maybe if you share that information it would be easier for someone to assist you in identifying.

I think it is just called Chaos Chant used in game sometimes:

If correctly identified by Fuggles, the song you might be referring to was played as the background music for Mission #8, "The Chapel", during the original Dawn of War's single player campaign. When extracted from DoW's assets, the original file name should be "music_chant.fda", which you must then either convert into a file format that is playable by your favorite media player or download the appropriate codecs needed to play the file directly. Converting it into an MP3 is probably your best bet for compatibility with the widest range of media players across the market.

That said, if you haven't already, have a look at this thread to get you started. I imagine many of the links given by the OP to all the different tools you'll need are broken by now. I might still have them kicking around my PC somewhere (at least I hope I do, I may need them again someday also ).

[Edit] I did some digging and found this thread which also claims to have tools that do the same job, perhaps even a little easier than the first thread I linked you too. It seems to have incorporated many of the technologies that were before only loosely organized by the steps outlined in the first thread. It's definitely worth a shot.

Hey, thanks for all the help, guys... I appreciate the quick and multitudinous replies. To answer all the comments so far, as I said in my original post, I already extracted and converted all the music from Dawn of War, Winter Assault, Dark Crusade, and Soulstorm. I do not know the name of the song, because I don't know which one it is. The song is definitely not music_chant, that is extremely calm, and they never say the word domine. The song I'm talking about is one you hear during gameplay in soulstorm, I usually hear it during skirmish games (That's usually what I play, having gotten the Ultimate Apocalypse mod). It is really tense, and the voices chanting are deep... I know the song isn't part of the mod, because I heard it before I got the mod too. I know it is one of the songs from the soundtrack, but I can't remember which one. I know it's hard to explain, but that's about as well as I can explain it without knowing which song it is. Any more ideas? This was easily my favorite song from the game, it really exemplified the theme and feel of the Warhammer 40k universe.

Alright, I've narrowed it down a little bit. It is only played during skirmishes and multiplayer, and it has the same intensity and feel as the song music_warhammer40ktheme... Near the middle or end of the song, deep voices begin the chant slowly, do-mi-ne... multiple times. For some reason though, I can't find it among the tracks I ripped. I have searched every single song the whole way through, and none of the ones I ripped contain this section. Any ideas?

Very hard to say on such a description, as many of the themes have chants in them. I don't particuarly remember hearing 'domine' in any of them though, but I haven't listened to the DC and SS soundtracks so I'm not really familiar with them. I don't think the description fits any of the tracks from the original game, but I'm not 100% sure, of course. The only track I found that remotely could fit was music_mso5i from the WA soundtrack, but I'm not sure at all.

The only thing that I can think of, albeit somewhat unrelated, is that in at least one instance the egine.sga contained a music file that I wanted (the track that gets played primarily at the main menu screen in the original DoW). It took a while to find because, like most people I assumed that all the tracks were bundled in the same cabinet. Like Kalimac, I can't think of any song in particular where the chant sounds like this "domine" phrase that you're recalling. But then again, I might hear it differently from you; for instance, I could swear that in the Imperial Guard's main theme, the chanted "chorus" repeats, "With a spoon, with a spoon, with a spoon..." over and over again, lol. If that's true then it could be a hilarious culture reference to Robin Hood Prince of Thieve's scene where the Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman) threatens to cut Robin's heart out with a spoon. But that's just how I hear things.

tl;dr check the other asset files, especially engine.sga for tracks that might have been separated from the rest. You might find your missing tracks there.

Hmmm... thanks for the ideas, I will look into it. I am pretty sure it is domine, which means "Lord" in latin (a.k.a. the same the thing in warhammer 40k high gothic). They only pronounce three syllables in this chant, do-mi-ne, so it seems to make sense.

EDIT: D**M. I am a moron. You were right, they are not chanting domine, it is a much more complex chant. I found it in the engine.sga, just like you said. It was titled music_dawnofwartheme... I just converted it, and listened to it, it is everything I was hoping for. Thanks, guys, for all your help- I really appreciate it.

Hey, glad you were able to find what you were looking for. Actually, I went back and re-listened to that track and found that, in fact, you're right; they are definitely saying "domine" as part of their chant, albeit so slowly that it's easy to overlook, right around the 1:05 mark. I have no idea what else they might be saying, but this happens to be one of my favorite tracks; I don't know how I didn't pick up on that right away. /facepalm.

Thanks, Pesudo... yeah, it is a fairly distinctive song. I'm guessing it is a favorite of a bunch of people... I wonder if anyone has written out the lyrics for the chanting in the piece?

I certainly don't know nor do I know of any who might have transcribed what they're saying. /shrug

It might just be something silly, like the whole, "With a spoon," chant I mentioned. Or how about the, "Corn on the cob. Corn on the kabob," chant from Starwars Episode 1? Ok, ok, I know that's not what they're actually saying, but it's fun to parody nonetheless.

    LOLZ, that's awesome XD

Actually, the chant from Star Wars Episode 1 is a series of lines from a Welsh ballad, I forget what it is called. But anyway, I digress. Does anyone know how to use the Soulstorm objects in the Dark Crusade Mission editor? I just created a map with the Dark Crusade editor, it turned out AWESOME, by the way... I pretty much came up with a way to utilize every building and awesome gizmo in the mission editor's files in my map XD. Of course, it was so epic, once the fighting really got started, my game crashed (go figure X3). Now the thing to do is make ANOTHER map. this one even MORE epic than the last... using Soulstorm AND Dark Crusade items. Anybody have an idea? I searched the tutorials in the modding section, but couldn't find anything on the topic.

A few days ago I was actually going to ask if it was the Dawn of War main menu music but at the time it didn't really sound like it was what you were looking for.

    Turns out it was. Doh.

Dude, you have an awesome username... just sayin'. But yeah, it was. Not your fault though, I am a complete failure of a douchebag with a faulty memory and poor social skills, and I failed to explain what I was looking for properly. If I didn't suck so much @$$, this thread probably would have been around 2 or 3 posts long before I found what I was looking for. But anyway, I will stop with the self-destructive rant now.

The self deprecation aside, you'll find that these forums are pretty liberal about what people can and cannot say around here (it's actually one of the best things about these forums), within reason of course. There's no need to dodge the language filters as there aren't any.

Ahhh, good... I was just being careful. Acting rashly by swearing on a thread without knowing the rules on it can easily get you banned, I have seen it before. In any case, anyone have any ideas as to the working of soulstorm objects into the mission editor? I created another map, this one so amazingly epic my computer had a HDD attack, a stroke, and a processor aneurysm all at the same time, resulting in a massive deathly bluescreen. Luckily, it recovered after a quick trip to the tech center, and now runs this awesome new map with ease. If anyone is interested in my epic new map, I would love to share it, maybe get some feedback, or some test play. I played it using the Ultimate Apocalypse mod- there were 8 Eldar Revenant Titans running around the map, as well as a crapload of Kustim Stompas, Gargantuan Squiggoths, and Battle Wagons, all moving easily around the various paths with plenty of room. Its basically a 4 player map, sized 512 X 512 (REALLY large, I know) designed to run easier on computers with minimal specs. I was able to pull that off by minimizing the number of decals and objects, making up for that with lots of strategic terrain changes and an awesome theme.

There's no need to beat yourself up about it, I could have asked anyway and saved all the bother, although it doesn't really bother me all that much.

Anyway if you have a map you want other people to try and give you feedback you can try posting it here or in the Dawn of War Modding sub forums in the map section. I'm sure people will give it a go and get back to you.
