They probably do not actually have information at this point. Actual information must be true to be information. If they came out and "threw us a bone" that turned out to be false because something came up the minute they posted it, they'd just have to issue a retraction and go through the pain of people yelling at them for being wrong. Better to wait until they have something concrete to say that actually changes the status quo than to repeat "hey yeah we're waiting still" every day.

Except even concrete information can be retracted at any time if something else comes up. You can still give an estimation.

Which leads to people being angry about being misled. Eventually, all content producers learn the hard lesson that saying nothing is far superior to saying something and then being proven wrong by events or being forced to go back on their word. Authors, musicians, movie makers... and yes game makers. Deadlines are promises, no matter what anyone says, and no one should make promises lightly.

Silence until they know something worth saying is the best policy.

Well if you are going to look at it like that then it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't kind of situation. Lack of information isn't good for keeping the attention of your fanbase. Again, considering this is CoH2 and we have all likely pre-ordered, Relic has no real worries but a lesser known franchise would be scrambling to get as much info to the community as possible.

Saying nothing can be just as bad as saying the wrong thing, however if you say nothing while saying something then you have perfect balance. For example, everything going.. End the conversation there, no one know its going good or bad just its going :P so nothing has been said yet the devs came out and said something which makes you feel a degree better.

I don't think this talk about Beta is enough to make me buy a pre-order ... I have just bought the 10 dollar first release on Steam and will play for with that for a bit. ATM is all feels a little scammy with the so called Beta offering sometime in the FUTURE with no release dates even on that. I have lost money with others games that have made similar promises. VERY WARY atm.

    Presumably he means CoH1.

And now the CoH2 official forums are down for maintenance. Hopefully this means a website overhaul and actual concrete info soon.

I wouldn't put money on that.

Mind you the official forums are arguably in need of an overhaul...and based on what I heard a month or so ago from a reliable source, a revamp was being talked about. Whether the revamp mentioned was going to be visual or mostly code-based is up for debate.

Guess we'll have to wait and see

I really hope it gets a decent backend. Moderators over there are crippled; can't even deal with trolls effectively.

    I've heard that :/

On another note, the user base there needs to be purged with fire.

Yes, yes it does. Unfortunately we can't do a lot when we can only delete posts. That is all we can do with regards to user moderation. There are no other options whatsoever.

    @vandrew82

That's been confirmed by a few other sites now. I figured the game would be pushed back a bit, but it's a good move I think.

Honestly, not surprised or upset at all. Maybe it could have released in March if everything was on the up and up with THQ. But with what's happened, along with a need to restart the advertising campaign, need to renegotiate deals and get servers setup.

Not to mention, more time usually means a better game unless the developer just can't cut it. Having been in the alpha and seeing relic really respond to feedback, I think they'll pull through with something even better come June, if the rumors are true.

Still, really want to start playing it, hopefully the beta will happen well before that.

As for the site, let's hope it's a full overhaul, it's been terrible for a while, from basic SSL errors to horrible interface, not a good place to visit.

An April beta would be greatly appreciated. As it stands though, CoH2 releases 3 days before my birthday, suffice it to say that makes for a more than decent present.

I was really hoping they would delay it. The chance of it being rough and incomplete at the original release date just seemed to high with the shape THQ was in. I would rather wait and get a better less buggy experience.

Is anyone here on the alpha? Without giving anything away, how is it shaping up?

Hasn't started yet, due to SEGA's acquisition of Relic. As far as I'm aware, at least.

Playtesting next week at Relic I think.

I don't think it's breaking my NDA to say that the alpha was in very good shape at the time.

I don't think Relic needs the extra time, I think Sega needs the time. A publisher needs more than a month to solidify and act upon a marketing and distribution strategy; normally a publisher has the better part of a year to get that done. Taking over THQ's arrangements would probably not have been possible or desirable. So rather than release with insufficient marketing, they decided to delay the release and say 'We're giving Relic more time' as the official stance, and use the extra time to make sure their own marketing department can give it the attention it deserves.

    That's my theory.

The game looks and plays great in multiplayer, but it's quite possible that the single player campaign needs more love. They are still focus testing the single player campaign.

I'm glad they have time for the campaign now. Reviews will benefit greatly.

With playtesting in Vancouver next week via CL, beta could then possibly begin the second week of April. That would allow a full month for beta, then two weeks for Relic to do their magic before release.
Of course, that time will go by fast.
    Hoping CoH2 Ships With Worldbuilder....
