    New mod - Hw2:Fleets(working title)

    Homeworld 2: Fleets v1.4

    Fleets is a simple modification that disables all initial production facilities (mothership etc) and gives each team a large assortment of ships which can be used to destroy the enemy in well thought attacks. These are the only ships that each team will get, so they must be taken care of and used sparingly.

    Story
    -----
    You are a field general assigned to the farthest border skirmishes within your empire, you have no systems link with your mothership and all production orders are cut off. Your shipyard has only basic repair capability but you have numurous forces ready to strike at your enemy.






    Changes
    -------
    1.0-1.1
    * Doubled every ships armour value so it lasts 2x longer.
    * Removed the capital ships except for the shipyard (production disabled)
    * Added a variety of assault craft to startup.

    -1.2
    * Fighters and corvettes starting with only 1 member, they should now launch imediately.
    * Increased rear armour damage for all ships, with greater amounts on larger ships.

    -1.3
    * Decreased over all fleet size a bit to reduce lag.
    * Tweaked many armour values for balancing.
    * Removed Lance Fighter and Ion Frigate for balance.
    * Increased Battlecruiser and Destroyer speeds a little.

    -1.4
    * Added 2 Carriers to fleet to help carry Fighters & Corvettes
    * Tweaked Carrier values a little.
    * Added a Scout to each fleet.
    * Increased Carrier strength by 100,000
    * Increased Shipyard strength by 200,000

    This is a mod aimed at putting more fun into MP and skirmish games, and allowing the player to think more about war instead of construction.

    Every battle should be an epic, every death remembered and at the end of each game, you dont want to be dissapointed. I went about making this mod to share with everyone and it allows the user to hone his/her tactics in a duel to the death, a 3d game of chess if you will. I hope its great fun for you!

    oops, update.. i assume most of you know how to add a mod

    unzip contents into Sierra/Homeworld2/Data as it stands (*not Homeworld2/data/data or Homeworld2/data/fleets)

    add a copy of your homeworld shortcut, add to the end of the run line : -overrideBigfile

    I've tried v 1.2, it's quite fun , and it make you focalize more on strategy, i like it.You could make some dedicated maps for it .Another thing you can add is something like the special fleets mod: Three or four different configuration of the starting fleet from wich a player can choose.

    hi.. thx for ur suggestions. its strange u said that cos i've been looking into a way that i can add UI options to set the fleet size b4 u start(unsucessful so far), so if anyone can point me to a good place with some tute's on this then i'd appreciate it..

    I played something like this a month or so ago maybe longer....it was just the map being changed, alot of fun, everyone is equal regardless of production and it's all tactics

    This looks good.

    Hello, my next additions require some skill far beyond my own, so basically I am asking all the modding community if they can point me in the right direction or help me out in any way.

    I will be needing:

    * Some New maps with no resources, but lots of places to hide(gas clouds, nebula etc) Also, with the starting points not so near the edge so that some ppl can move 'in behind' the fleets easier.
    * A way to set the fleet size before you start a game, like UI controls on MP and skirmish screens.
    * Some more balancing because of the way Vagyr and Hig fleets are made up, I seem to think Vagyr heavy ships dont stand up as long?
    *A Guide of tactics , this can be any length..


    In the meantime I will be joining RDN and will sort out a .big file and a proper installer for this. And.. if nobody comes forward, starting to learn how to make maps

    * Removed Shipyard (not really needed)
    * Increased Battlecruisers strength by 20,000
    * Increased Destroyers strength by 15,000
    * Increased Frigates strength by 10,000
    * Battlecruisers and Carriers can build special ability modules.
    * Carriers can build sensor modules.



    - UI options to change the fleet size is very complex.
    - Building a .big file doesnt work on mine.

    just wondering though, does the cpu play it, and if they do do they play it very well?

    Yes, the AI attacks and the speed it decides what to do is based on the difficulty.

    Easy = Slow to start, usually stays where it starts until you reach it, bunches fighters and corvs up.

    Standard = Fairly quick to start, splits forces into smaller assault wings and slowly moves into attack. May take on 2 fronts/or enemies at the same time.

    Hard = EXTREMELY quick to start, usually puts hyperspace modules to good use and hypers right by your start pos with fighters following. Also targets your subsystems.

    Expert = Havent tried yet, but I assume it would get even more tricky.

    This is exatly like Ground control
    But in ground control there were dropships to reinforce the troops.
    Is there gona be a troop reinforcer?
    Like a transport?
    To buy troops you would get points for destroying other troops (just like in ground control)

    if thered be a troop reenforcer itd be a warp zone or something i think

    in ground control you got points for holding landing zones and Victory points
    the more you had the more points a second you got

    *Bump update*

    Really sorry, but I have been unable to even find this forum thread for the last 4+ months. Just wanted to say that, due to moving into the hosting field, I will now be offering this mod for download again.
    What sparked me to come back was the fact that I still get at least 1 Fleets request every week, maybe 2 per week on some occaisions, which proves that its still popular, despite being small and very basic. A big thanks to everyone who has requested/played/enjoyed this mod, you have given me motivation to finish it off and make it truly complete. (originally I thought it was a daft idea, which is why I put other projects first)

    So now I will be taking ideas/suggestions for a final release, making small changes as needed and making the AI fully work again. I will also try and pack it into a .big, (or get someone to do it) as last time I wasn't able to.

    (Ps, please feel free to post your thoughts or ideas on the mod here, how long you have played it for/ if you got bored and if you still play it SP or with other players, would be great to find out these things)

    I have never gotten bored playing this mod but i REALLY do have one wish,which i tried and it didn't work.

    Please make a version of FLEETS thats a gamerule mod.

    I have taken mods that are in a BIG file and when i dropped it into the gamerules folder,i was able to play with that mod's gamerule.

    If Fleets is a gamerule mod in a BIG file then put all the stock game ships in the starting fleet folder.

    That way if someone [like me]
    wanted to add new ships from other mods [which i always do],they can just extract the files from the BIG,add the ship to the starting fleets and thats it...but you would only get stock ships as reinforcements.


    Also add a reinforcment option that would allow you to select:
    Reinforcments:ON/OFF
    Reinforcment Time: 1,5,10,20 min.
    Fighter Reinforcment: 5,10,20
    Corvette Reinforcment: 5,10,20
    Firgate Reinforcment: 5,10,20
    Destroyer Reinforcment: 2,4,6
    BC Reinforcment: 1,2,3

    [Don't know if this is possible but it would be cool to have a full fleet as a reinforcement]
    Strike Group: 10,20,30 min.
    Battle Group: 10,20,30 min.
    Armada: 10,20,30 min.

    I would love to play a gamerule like this in PDS

    hello there, yes well i never really had much time to work on it in the first place, i just put it up here so people could get it.

    As for .big, well i explained a little while ago that i couldnt figure out the big proggy with rdn tools, so i will leave that to any other kind user to do it.

    This was meant to be opensource style anyway, i dont like keeping my mods to myself, so i dont mind if people want to make adjustments, just make sure they post a copy here.

    People can put their credits along side mine and include info about anything they did, dont mind a name change either like Fleets:advanced or something, depending on whatever people want to do.

    last thing, dunno if you read my previous posts, but the game 'type' (my idea in general), doesnt have any reinforcements, it was about properly managing what you had, withdrawing it and repairing etc. if people want to add those types of rules, then i dont mind, just wasnt what i had originally planned.
    there are lots of thing i would have liked, that are all beyond me, so i'll have to leave it to the 'experts' :bandit:
