Storm Shields as an additional CC weapon..

What do you guys think about treating Storm Shields as an additional CC weapon, in addition to providing a 4+ Invul save? I believe this will make them more useful, and I might be able to field them in the tabletop sometimes for once.

why not...having a terminator miss with the hammer then kill its target with a shield would be a real talking point after the match

well, storm shields generate a small energy field similar to a rosarius/iron halo. The field is however much too small to be off use against ranged attacks and as such is used commonly in CC, were it gives a +4 invulnerable save.
I wouldn't really outfit my HQ with it as for +15 points he can get a iron halo, but for Veteran sergeants it isn't too bad at 10 points, he still gets 2 attacks, altough it's best to give it to one that will encounter troops that kill instantly in CC, else it'll be a waste(Ie: assault sergeants).

It would be nice if it did give an extra attack, but i highly doubt it will.

That'd be AWESOME! Considering that all my HQ's in my Marines army have Thunderhammers and Storm Shields

At the moment, it seems like Storm Shields are a waste. I almost never pick them in preference for an extra CCW. Now, if they served as an extra CCW, then I think they'll be worth the points to strap on a Marine.

Thus my question. I'll submit this as a suggestion for an house rule at my local game store.

hmm, it could be explained that the impact of slamming the shield into the enemy combined by the energy field could give the enemy a nasty shock. Not powerweapon level but enough to down someone.

or the fact that he bears a storm shield means that he has trained extensively in using Melee weapons.
