The Archive
The purpose of the Archive is to provide access to as many older threads - including many that have long since been purged. Use them to read older stories, look through some of our older discussions, see what the community was like months ago. Several contain interesting discussion and might prove a great source of inspiration.
I have all of the threads on my hard drive and on a Zip disk, so if you want a copy of any of them (especially seeing as several threads haven't been uploaded yet), I will be willing to email them if you PM me.
Also, if for some reason you want one of your threads taken down from the Archive (ex. You decide to publish a story of yours and are worried about copyright issues), PM me and I will see what I can do.
Hopefully I'll smooth out the bugs in this soon.
If you have any saved threads already up on a webspace, send a message to me and I'll add it. If you do not have any webspace to host the thread, send a private message to me, and I'll send it to Noname_MiB to add.
Additionally, whenever there is a purge coming, I urge you to save the threads you like on to your hard drives. Again, if you host these purged threads on your own webspace, or if you desperately want it to be hosted on my own and I agree to, I'll post links to the copies of these threads.
If You Cannot Find A Thread You Want
The Relic Boards have had several purges over its history, and many, many threads have not made it. The Archive was only started at the end of the UBB boards, when it became known that threads would not be transferred over to the new boards. Therefore, an attempt was made to save many of the current threads then. Unfortunately, all of the threads that hadn't been active several months before were purged.
Similar purges have occured on the Second Relic Boards and Third Relic Boards - these without warning. I have attempted to rescue a few from my cache and with Go Back software, which can recover old files after a week - but this limits my collection to those threads I had visited recently or that I had saved before the purge (only two for the Second Relic Boards, a few more given my paranoia of board crashes with the Third Relic Boards).
Fortunately, I have been a little better with the Fourth Relic Board, and there is a rather large number of those threads.
But threads prior to perhaps November 2001, and most of the threads of the Second and Third Relic Boards were lost, and I know of no way to recover most of them.
There are two options that I know of if you still need your thread:
- Search Google or any other search engine that archives of web pages. You should see a link that says something like "Cache" if you get a positive result. Clicking this will take you to a copy of the thread on the server of the search engine.
- Use the Internet Archive Wayback Machine and search for the thread.
For the First Relic Boards, run a query like "http://www.relic.com/ubb/Forum10/HTML*" - this was the URL for the threads of the old fiction forum. Be prepared to wade through numerous links.
For the Second Relic Board, run a query like "http://forums.relicnews.com/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=homeworldfiction*" - this was the URL for the Second Relic Board's fiction threads.
For the Third Relic Boards, run a query like "http://forums.relicnews.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=hwfiction*" - this was the URL for the Third Relic Board's fiction threads.
Note that only a few threads out of the population are saved this way. It might be best not to get your hopes up.
If you do succeed, you might want to save the thread to your hard drive; send it to me if you wish for it to be in the Archive.
(Of course, if you know of some better way of getting threads back from the grave, please tell me - I myself have lost some threads this way, and I am sure there are others who would appreciate it.)
The First Relic Boards (The Ancient UBB ones)

The file is 5.6 MB. If you have a fast Internet connection, I'd probably reccomend that you download the file and be done with it.
However, if you only want to look at one thread and don't feel like downloading the entire file, or if you want to look at a few older threads, or if you are, like me, one of those poor souls with a 56k modem, an archive of threads on the web has been constructed! A big thanks to Noname_MIB who hosted the threads on his Relic Boards Archive! Also, thanks as well to the HWU team (dmille and ceejayoz) for coordinating the hosting of these threads on that Relic Board Archives! Thanks!
