Good paint schemes for the Tyranids

My cousin wants to know the best colours for the tyranids because he as well is starting a Warhammer 40k army.

if he is meaning to start a 40k army then he probably has or should get the tyranid codex which has several full color pages of painting tips and color schems.

Ive painted mine to match the original colour schemes of the Genestealers when they first came out.

Flesh - whatever u want i guess (i use 'Red Gore')
Exoskeleton - Chaos Black (with White highlights)
Chitin - Bleached Bone (with Brown Ink)

Ok thaxs, one question in mind. Does the bleached bone looks like sand color because maybe I should paint my taus like from the desert or bumblebee style.

Uhm no i dont think id use Bleached Bone for sand. Best thing to do is to go into your local GW & have a look as all the paints are in transparent containers so u can immediately see what ure after

Whats with the dark angel green??? and with a metallic colour!?!?!? whoa...that would look a "different" I would say go for natural colours...tell your cousin to go out and study some bugs! hehe. then apply them to his nids. I have never seen a black nid army before (like ant coloured, The aliens from the Alien series all have shiny black carapace, now that would look cool on nids!)

I myself have chosen GOBLIN GREEN for the base, BLOOD RED for the armor, SKULL WHITE for talons n claws, and for some reason CHAOS BLACK on part of the head and for the weapons. I would add a pic, but I don't know how! LOL :smash:

These are by far the coolest looking 'nids I've ever seen or found online. They're based off the Alien movie theme so their colors try to match that and they do it beautifully.

both. Its an excellent theme, especially as many of the Nids have stolen ideas from HR Giger's demented genius heh. Plus its been done VERY well imo.

Heh yeah, I'm debating doing something similar or trying to make a predator army since alien-themed 'nid armies are kinda cliché.

the green and mattallic colors make the nids look more advanced

    those are AWESOME!

not perfect though, i don't like the termagaunt and the carnifex. termagaunt looks weak, and the fex could've been done better. where's its jaw? the same kinda applies to the ravener. where's the jaw?

however, the queen, prince and warriors make up for it =)

yeah, what i do is i drybrush the skin codex grey, then do all the armor drybrushed scab red, then red gore, then highlight it with blood red. then put some glue on the base and flock it. paint the base scorched brown or biestial brown then drybrush with bleached bone. then paint the sides goblin green. 8 gaunts takes me about 1 hr with this method. it looks very good when done properly but is time consuming. good luck

u guys have to be kidding me, those alienids or w/e suck. all they are is a little green stuff over the face and then drybrushed like codex grey. i could do a carnifex like that in like half an hour.

Well to be honest its really up to the integrity of your cousin to choose a good colour scheme which he is happy with.

I suggest that he/she look at this web site and see a colour scheme he really likes and he/she can try it out.

    Click me

oh btw this is my favorite

I personally like it because of the poses and the marines

also you should view this web site to paint a nice simple tyranid colour scheme

tentacle pink exo skeleton, and ice blue underbody... think about 2 situation. Either you lose and the guy beat up a bunch of pink bugs, or you win and they were beaten by pink bugs. Either way it's freaking hillarious.

    bug style

i think the best thing is to paint them like actual bugs, the best one i have ever seen was done like that, admitably it was also of golden demon level, Gold to be precise, but there are simpler ways to make nids look like bugs, most of which an average painter could pull off

well the carnifex leaves much to be desired, I also dont like the genestealers.
For the fex, I think he should've put on a warrior's head or something instead of the fex's, then added green stuff to give it the banana-like head that they need. And for those who have the comics and such for Aliens, I was thinking about having a carnifex as an alligator alien since they're usually huge and a carn is too.
For the stealers, they too needed modeling to get the banana shape goin, heads just look too small otherwise.

m3atwad, no one said the alienids took a ton of time, but they do look great. the whole army has the same paint scheme that works well for them. I've seen oh so many (too many even) 'nid armies that try to follow the same scheme but the paint is too splotchy or just doesn't go well. Nids are pretty hard to paint so they look good and those Alienids look good with some simple converting. (I wish rending claws would have a better huge on monstrous 'nids. The hands, instead of scythes or guns, fits the alien scheme so well)
