If you HAD to pick one or the other, which would you pick...
EVE Online or Star Wars Galaxies ?
Also explain why below.

I don't know enough (ie anything) to choose. Yeah, I could check out the links, but what would that really give me but some pretty screens and a load of spiel? I'll check anyway.
SW: Galaxies is almost entirely land-based, EVE is entirely space-based. EVE is an economically driven game, which I have always hungered for in a multiplayer setting. Sure, SW: Galaxies is neat and all, but I'm pretty sure you can't become an industrialist in that game. In EVE your wealth and power can come from manufacturing and research (http://unitech.moonfruit.com), and you don't necessarily have to be involved in combat at all.
EVE all the way.

:shivers:
sorry...just brings back unpleasant memories of mining and ferrying in Jumpgate
problem is, like in JG, even people that don't want to be involved in combat get drawn in, like when their tug gets raped by a rogue terrorist group while they are ferrying 20,000,000 credits worth of precious mineral
Eheh, that sounds like a real pisser.
I've been trawling the EVE site and it sure looks good. I've never considered a MMOG before, short of applying for the anarchy online beta test. Before I go check out the star wars one, understand that I have never appreciated the star wars game franchise. IMHO they have always, always cashed in on the license and lacked a certain something in the actual game, which would be fine if I actually liked the film license, which I don't.
Rodimus, cooperation is the key, of course. Whenever we were supplying in JG you can be sure there were at least six or seven guys defending that tug.
In EVE it's possible to spend the entire game in high-security (low-PK) areas and actually advance. The greater rewards are, of course, in the low-security areas, so you need to devise strategies to protect yourself while grabbing that rare ore. Of course, piracy wont be mindless PK, either. You're actually taking the goods they were carrying. Also, it isn't twich-based.
First release yes...but a "space-borne" expspansion is already in the works...so you can buy a ship, go places, be a smuggler etc...SW: Galaxies is almost entirely land-based
the bigges difference I can see will this: in SW:G you'll be able to interact more with the environment, tho you'll be limted in some ways (obviously) in space...whereas in EVE it'll all be ship-borne stuff...no blasting Greedo in the Cantina...
but I'd still like to know what the preference is...
I choose EVE in the context of this thread - whether I'll buy it and subscribe remains to be seen. Squid writes me interesting things...
.........World of Warcraft
ok ok... id pick SWG

EVE - SW Galaxies seems just kinda like a skinned Everquest, whereas EVE is something really new...

EVE looks to be jumpgate with the bad bits cut out - it has security zones where the npc police protect or attack you based on your security rating. It's like JG's faction ratings, but with a real penalty for doing nasty shit to people in safe areas.
EVE is a much more interesting overall concept than swg.
Eve..
but I don't have the ability to pay / afford / want to pay the monthly charges, so why listen to me?

I have a 24.4 connection.
I go buy Jedi Outcast and HW2.

I voted for EVE, EVEn though I'm an extreme Star Wars fan (ask me anything, ANYTHING!). I voted for EVE because I really really really want to start a pirate group with a legit cargo transport company as a cover.
. And SWG will have action in Space, (LucasArts is releasing an add on which lets you).
Jedi Knight: Outcast is very good just needs some patches to fix graphics and sound problems.
