    [HINT] Keyboard Shortcuts and Information (Last Update: 17 August 2004)

    This is a list of current keyboard shortcuts that some new beta testers may find useful. There are more shortcuts available that are unit independant but these are the general gameplay keys.

    DAWN OF WAR Beta Keys (patch verson 1.4)

    Left mouse = Select troops
    Right mouse = Issue commands
    Scroll wheel = Zoom in/out
    Alt + mouse = Rotate camera view
    Delete = Kill own unit or building (be careful there is no confirmation request)(can be used to free-up infantry and vehicle caps)
    Backspace = Restore default view
    Home = Focus back on base
    . (fullstop) = Next Worker
    , (comma) = Next Unit
    Ctrl+R = Next research/Addon
    PageUp = Zoom up
    PageDwn = Zoom down
    Arrows = Scroll view
    PrintScr = Screenshoot
    Ctrl + 1…0 = Assign unit to key
    1…0 = Recall unit
    Pause = Pause game (tutorial only)

    Unit Stances
    F1 = Hold Ground
    F2 = Stand Ground
    F3 = Burn Stance
    F4 = Cease Fire Stance
    F5 = Attack Stance

    Unit Strategy
    F6 = Assault
    F7 = Versatile Stance
    F8 = Ranged Stance

    [EDIT] Console ON/OFF
    According to the 1.4 patch details the command to bring the console down/up is now Ctrl+Shift+ ~ (tilde) but this is still different on certain keyboards so try the combination below to see what works for you.

    Console Down/Up = Ctrl+Shift+ '
    Console Down/Up = Ctrl+Shift+ `
    Console Down/Up = Ctrl+Shift+ ~

    [ADD] Clear screen
    Clear screen 100%
    Bring down the console (see above)
    to hide: taskbar_hide
    to show: taskbar_show (from PIKE)

    Minimise HUD - Ctrl+H (from Uberjumper)

    [ADD] Overwatch Right-click on/off (works on reinforce, troop and vehicle build icons)

    What is overwatch? If you right-click on unit reinforce icons or unit and vehicle build icons the clicked unit will automatically reinforce or build when enough requisition and power is available.

    When a unit of troops enters battle you right-click the reinforce icon, it then starts to flash, this means as long as you have enough req and power the unit will auto-reinforce itself. You cant set it to stop at a certain number but it will stop automatically at max unit size, if they take any losses switch on overwatch to start reinforce again.

    Vehicles can be queued with the overwatch as well. If you do not have the required points to build a vehicle right-click on the unit and as soon as the points are avaiable the unit will build. If your under attack you can overwatch some vehicles to build while you concentrate on the battle saving you switrching from base to battle. With the overwatch on the vehicle it will keep building more units until you stop overwatch by right-clicking the unit icon again.

    There are also two buttons on the UI for overwatch use on the far left of the screen just to the right of the mini-map. The round green button pauses overwatch and the round red button cancels all overwatch.

    Overwatch is helpful to quickly max out a single unit size guarding a listening post while you are building and moveing other units, but you have to be careful that the overwatch units dont spend all you resource and power points. If you need a large amount of points for building upgrades etc then just pause or cancel the overwatch.

    You cannot overwatch buildings.

    [ADD] Patch 1.3 Where is it?

    YOU ALREADY HAVE THE LATEST PATCH (1.3)

    The Dawn of War beta has an auto-update feature which when you start the multiplayer mode will check and install the latest version of the beta automatically.

    The DoW download for the open beta phase has ALL the currently released patches included in the install (1.1, 1.2, 1.3). So open beta players DO NOT need to install patches.

    It doesn’t matter what the ingame screen says the version number is, if you can play a multiplayer game then you have the latest version already.

    AGAIN, IF YOU DOWNLOADED THE OPEN BETA VERSION YOU ALREADY HAVE THE LATEST PATCH INSTALLED.

    Should any further patches be released the best way to check if you have the current version is to join the multiplayer game and let the auto-update check your version.

    Have fun.

    [ADD] Patch 1.4 Where is it?

    The best way to obtain patch 1.4 is to use the games auto-update. To do this start multiplayer and once you have logged in the game will do a version check and update as required.

    If for any reason you cant start or join the multiplayer lobby then you can download the patch from;

    http://ocs.thq.com/patches/dawnofwar...5-Patch1.4.exe

    Enjoy

    Can you clarify how overwatch works exactly? I was curious as to what it was, and what it did, and thus, how to do it.

    Overwatch should be named "auto-repeat":
    Right click a unit reinforce option, and it will reinforce endlesly.
    Right click a build button, and it will produce the unit until the end of time
    ...

    Its basicly auto-build, will keep making what ever you overwatch, as long as u have resources/power for it.

    If you press Ctrl + (any number 1-9) you can group sqauds together under that number. It wont show on the screen, but after grouping you can quick select grouped sqauds and uints this way.

    - whenever you get an "under attack" message, pressing spacebar will center the screen on the attack

    - if you have many squads of a same unit type, double clicking one squad selects all the squads of same type onscreen.

    - having a squad selected, hitting "²" (on azerty keyboard) zooms in on a unit. every time you hit that key again it cycles thru each unit in that squad.

    how come there is no hot key for Eldar's Fleet of Foot???
    I'd like to use FoF more often but its kind of a pain to toggle it on or off each time.

  13. #13
    Fleet of foot hotkey is "F".. also i noticed that once the unit is full, the overwatch resets itself to the off position, if you get into a fight you have to turn it back on to replace the troops you loose then.
    on second thought, lets not go to Camalot, its a silly place

    Hmm.. is there any hotkey to queue unit commands? For example, if you want a builder to build a certain building right after another, or if you want your units to move to different locations in a certain order (sorta like waypoints if you ever played Warcraft 3)

    Does the open beta include a SINGLE PLAYER skirmish? I am way too scared to start my career in this game without the possibility to play some skirmish versus COMPUTER.
    Please answer!

    Most of the game icons have a "tool-tip" if you leave the cursor hovering over the relevant icon.That said,i've been looking for a rotate screen combo,so thanks "Ulthwe";now, let's go & find this 1.3 patch you mentioned.

    Clicking on the icon at the middle-top of the build menu hides the build menu so you can see more of the battlefield.

    For the Orks and Space Marines and Chaos it's a skull, for the Eldar it's a gem.

    Ctrl+H toggles it up and down.

    A: Attack Move
    Ctrl+A : Melee Attack selection modifier.
    G: is the hot key to use a WW artillery mode.
    I: Infiltrate
    Q: Stop what your doing
    J: Enable JumpJets
    M: Move order
    B: Accesses the build menu :
    C: Builds the SpaceMarine Chapel
    L: Builds the Listening Post

    Double tapping 1 -> 0 will centre the camera over top of your selected hot unit.

    For those of you without mousewheels, I believe pressing both mousebuttons and moving the mouse up/down will zoom.
    *edit* You have to be holding down the ALT button at the same time. (homeworld-ish controls)

    Little numbers above the units (or maybe @ the base ring) of each hot key group would be great. I hope this gets added in.
