    A friggin 50 ton tank should not just fade into the sunset. It needs to light up like a candle! It's weak when your best unit goes down and all it does is fizzle away gently. Geez, my HAMSTER put up more of a fuss when it croaked!

    So basically you want the Land Raiders,Predators,Defilers and the like to basically 'splode?

    and it could be a powerful explosion
    that damages all nearby units just like in the TT game

    It might just be because its the beta and they want to keep the download resonable i think alot of asthetic issues will be delt with after the beta but, yes there does need to be Explosions its just not WH 40K without them

    Doesn't require damaging shockwaves or anything - just a note that a walker dying and just keeling over is lame.

    Agree, Homeworld 2 had some amazing fireworks, it's something of a suprise to seem them absent here.

    the wraithlords death is good it's not a vehicle its a wraith bone entity its guns maybe but not the lord it's self. dreadies and the rest yeah BOOM!, except the defiler does that explode? seeming its a daemon/machine but filled with ordanance?

    Anyway, While the Xplosion effects of the vehicles are quite arcadish, I think its for the better. After all this game IS a bit arcadish.

    I believe it was said in an interview that some of the stuff is still not done yet(animations and the like).I think it would be nice to consider one of the end product to be a giant 'splosion(TM) for vehicles

    I like that idea but the radius should be different for different vehicles, like walkers are really small (except the defiler) so they should have a pretty small AoE but the big tanks like preds and grav tanks should be a nice big explotion.

    And I just got off a GCII thread complaining that the over-the-top vehicle explosions detracted from game atmosphere.

    :P

    Realistically most vehicle kills, the hull would barely move and would be largely intact, at least as viewed from the exterior.

    As said before much of the aesthetics were not included in the beta for download size. Among these things were unit deaths and animations. (Yes, there will be more unit vs. unit interactions in the final version!)

    Yay! Explosions for all!
    I think all units should have several death animations, just to make it more varied, like, the vehicle can explode, fall apart or just stop moving with a lot of smoke coming out of it.

    I had an ideal in relation to damage dealt with vehicle explosions:

    since a lot of damage in DOW is somewhat random ie. guns miss, attacks do ranges of damage --> I thought it'd be cool if vehicles only exploded SOME of the time ie. sometimes the crew are killed so the tank stops.....others the reactor blows up.....exploding everywhere.

    This would mix up the combat a bit, fit in with the randomness of DOW, fit the TT and Fluff and the Real world plus be fun....hehe got lucky that time tank didn't blow my dread up too when i killed it.

    I like the fact that there's an element of chance in DOW since luck is a factor in the real world and also means fights won't turn out the same way every time. Also i don't think that the blast should be too damaging....just knock down like defiler artillery shot with similar damage/blast radius and morale effects

    yeah and enything with odinance should make a verry big shotckwave (realy big) so enything flies up

    exlosions are needed, like the dread just stops doing enything and he just disapears .....bah

    maybe a randomise point, like sometimes a dreads falls over, just stops doing enything (arm fall of maybe) and explode

    i realy would like to see tanks blow up making an entire firbeball effect wooot i want that

    (sry) but a bit more explsions would be a must

    I disagree.....this should be implemented along with some boosting of assault squads to offset the negative effects

    It should depend how the vehicle is destroyed, as it does in the tabletop version. If a vehicle is just barely wasted, it simply "pops" and is dead, but if a significant ammount of ordnance slams into it it will expire in an appropriately dramatic fashion and deal damage to nearby units.

    Some sort of explosion, at least in the effects department, at most dealing damage in moderation.

    On a serious note, yes the vehicle dameage could be tweaked a little. With either SMALL explosions, small chained explosions, or debris flying off.

    I envision a final release ,where placeholder artwork wasn't replaced....


    but seriously... I don't need explosions to *do* anything, but i'd really like a better indication when a vehicle 'dies'

    actually what i wouldnt mind seeing is the damage table taken into account.

    by that i mean, randomly determine if a tank (when it blows) either just detonates or gets blown forward or something...cause i would love to see a tank land on a squad and the men diving to save their lives.....ok time to go make a flip book into animation of this lol!

    the wepon the vehicle is hit with should matter on how it explodes and so should the wepons in the vehicle i dont want the same explosion's over and over again and explosions should definately kill nearby units ker pow!!!

    Not only would I like to see more "big booms", but I would like to see general vehicle damage, like sponsons/turrets/arms/legs getting blown off while the vehicle is taking the damage.

    The dreadnought and wraithlord death animations are the most dissapointing IMHO. They just seem to kneel and go to sleep. It would be more exciting if they got rocked off their feet in an explosion or something.

    I'd like to see some more dramatic death animations, I haven't really looked closely as battles I've had have sbeen too chaotic for me to do that and moniter my forces but I have only seen one death animation for a dreadnaught which involves it just sort of going limp and fading away.

    I wouldn't want my dreadnaughts or any walker in the game to explode (with the exception of any Ork vehicles, those things are just asking to blow up in their faces) but I'd like to see them loosing function in their arms and struggle to move and them fall over with a heavy thud, remembering these things are huge walking boxes of metal it's going to land very very hard. Possibly landing on a unit or two? :smash:

    Overall I'm quite impressed with the atmosphere in this game and a very dramatic death animation would really make the game for me at the end of a failed last stand with my last dread, I'd walk away smiling dispite the fact I lost.

    That's the first thing I noticed when I first played the tutorial... the vehicles just faded away like the troops. It's incredibly boring!! At least they could leave some wreckage that perhaps could stop incoming fire, but would only take so much of that, before the fuel tanks/ammo is hit and it explodes.

    The most common realistic death for vehicles *is* in fact simple stopping and sitting there... may be on fire, but still sitting there It would be neat if the vehicles gradually got withered down through continued directed fire against them, ala what some buildings do (WAAAAAGH towers seem to go kaboom a couple times before they die.. or is that my artillery?... hmm, foggy memory atm ), but something definitely needs to be done to spice up the vehicle deaths. At their current state, they are downright unacceptable.

    At first, i thought, maybe the Remains of the tanks should remain on the battlefield, but then i realized it would get too cluttered really easily....

    but yea, Kaboom! even if its just an graphical thing, i wanna see those things light up llike Canada day/bastile day/4th of July/Guy Fawkes day/ all rolled into one...
