For me it's one year and still going.
well it took me a whole year,I didnt get it all at once cuz GW is greedy basterds.Well for like a special character like a chaplian If I wanted to do my best it takes a week to finish or three days at the most.Cuz I go over detail after detail,dry brush after dry brush also more expecements to upgrade my painting skills.Ive went to sloppy to people look at my models saying you actually did this.

What's a recommended number of infantry model to paint per day?
a normal squads takes about 1hour/model i guess...so, about a squad a week
6yrs an' countin'... ill probably never finish. i buy faster than i can paint...
Depends on how detailed you want them to be, I generally take 4 hours on a basic troop, but then my stuff is mostly for display. If you're painting a few squads for a tournament and only have a couple of weeks then you basically use an assembly line technique, ie undercoat the whole lot, then take 5-8 guys at a time, paint armour, heads, weapons in a line, by the time you reach the end, the first coat will be dry on the ones at the start of the line.Originally Posted by CanadianGaurd

hmm, i bought a khorne army when the new ones came out, i bought a land raider when it came out, and erm, i still ant finished my land raider, is till ant finished anything really, i think i have 2 units of berzerkers done and i ant happy with them anymore

I have 3 1000 point armies finished in 2 years. I'm starting another and then i'm gonna make a 2000 point WFB army.
I'm getting close to a year on my Ork army, but I am almost finished. I still have to worry about my Lobba's and crew, my bikes, more Lootas, and one more Ork in Mega Armor.
i have my choas 40k army painted took me about 1/2 month but not got a lot of models in it,a chaos army in WFB didnt take long at all only had 27 models in 1000 points and i have a dark elf army that is well over 3000 points and i ddint paint that it was painted by a gd m8 who is a ex staff member who gave me it when he left

ur kidding right? just one hour?...i mean there is primeing them, painting in the veryins steps, finishing touches, basing, then fixing any last details before encasing it in a finish of some sorts.
i wish my WHFB army was easy to paint, now they go brig out these new chaos warriors again, i still have some of teh old, old chaos warriors to paint :/
actually dante, i think he meant just painting.
my process goes as follows:
-assemble and base EVERY model in the army
-basecoat EVERY model in the army
-divide into sections by a multiple of the whole, eg. an army of 120 into groups of 12.
-paint all of the main color on all the 12 models in the group
-add the other colors and details to every model, one by one
-highlight the models one by one
-flock
-paint the flock
-varnish
the first three steps should take about three hours work total. each model after that should take about an hour.
well i don't know how long it will take to paint blood angels
Took me bout a month to do my first army, eldar with about 75 guardians, a few tanks, and a couple aspects warriors on top of the HQ...

Red is one of the harder colours to work with!!! argle...
lol, yeah, honestly. i needed three coats to get my blood red right on my parody marine chapter, the hotdog patrol.
Blood Angels have one of the most basic techniques to look good,
prime white - basecoat blood red - ink with chestnut ink - block high light blood red - then finish up with highlights by adding blazing orange for a few highlight stages.

Been working on it for almost 2 years. Started with Guard, then Grey Knights, then Blood angles, then Sisters of Battle. None completed to this day.. but still working on it!
Varnish? I never heard you had to varnish your models. Is this really necessary?

varnish (AKA clearcoat) is almost necessary on metals. It's not such a biggie on the plastics. Still, it helps preserve the durability of the paint by not being able to chip easily :bandit:
