    [travel] Canadians, run!

    Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

Runt and feels like half my damn school have just departed on a field trip to Montreal with their esteemed Russian-born French-speaking "spanish teacher," leaving me luxuriously alone and happy!

Batten down the igloos, and fear the cream of the Van Hornesville, NY crop, cause they're coooominng!

Honestly, though, it's pretty cool. Field trip to another country, even a symbiote nation... Not as much fun as my visit to Ireland back in 94, but probably comes close for my sis and her cronies.

Where's the best faraway place you've ever gone to visit? And am I alone in thinking there are far more stupid people in evidence in america than abroad? I don't doubt other nations have them, but at least you guys seem able to hide them better...

We (speaking for the UK, at any rate) don't hide our idiots better (and we have just as many), they're always painfully obvious (usually on national television). It's probably just the cultural gap that makes them less apparent to you.

Best faraway place I've ever been to was Algonquin National Park in Canada, where I spent a fantastic week canoeing across the lakes, fishing for my breakfast, hauling my pack up into a tree at night, and doing hellish portages for up to a mile (hey, I was eleven, and I had to carry the tent). An extremely close second is Saguenay in Quebec, where I went whale-watching on the St. Lawrence river.

I'm actually of Canadian ancestry, about two generations back. And I live in NH, so I'm not that far from the boarder. So when I was younger I often crossed over with my parents.

About two years ago, my student record was reviewed, and I was approved to be one of 30 students (out of a group of 60) to visit several western european countries. Never went though.

I've never been on holiday. I've been abroad once, on a high school trip, to Germany - which is a shitty, miserable place and I don't want to go back.

So the best answer I can give you is, er, the Isle of Wight. It was quite nice there... there were butterflies, and a small but serviceable river... and coloured sand, don'tyerknow.

I'd like to go to Canada one day, though.

Speaking as a Canadian, I must warn you to stay the hell away from the Maritimes... The armpit of the country. Except Cape Breton...
The west coast is much better, and nicer...
The furthest I've been away from Canada is.... Washington... Seattle to be specific, and thats not very far...

Also speaking as a Canadian, consider yourself lucky that your going to Montreal and not any other city in Quebec (unless you happen to be going skiing up north). From what I've heard from people who have visited such places as Quebec City, if you don't speak french, people can become quite hostile.

Anyway, the farthest I've ever traveled abroad is Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I have always wanted to travel to Greece, Japan and Western Europe, though.

Let's see...I'll go in chronological order as best I can remember...

    California
    Colorado
    Ohio
    Florida
    UK
    Ireland
    Germany
    Majorca
    Menorca
    Sicily
    Italy
    Tunisia
    Washington DC
and I'm currently in South Carolina.

So the furthest would be...Tunisia (northeast africa).

Wow. I've been on holiday before too, y'know. (who'd have guessed it, eh?) yet strangely I don't feel the need to reel off half a bazillion countries to you all.

Why do i get the feeling that this thread is about to spiral down into a "my nob's bigger than yours" type argument, letting people post about all the places they've been to that others haven't?

I say kill it now before we just end up with six pages of mainly duplicate place names.

EDIT: s'pose I'll add something of value nontheless.

I suppose technically the absolute furthest away I've been from home is the easternmost point of the small island, Koh Pangan in the Gulf Of Thailand. Spent a month in Thailand generally bumming around and partying last summer. Very nice it was too.

I could continue, but fear that I may go on for eight pages....

    regards,

    Panth.

Ok then lets talk about stupid people from around the world, shall we?

Well, the German media is a bunch of perverts.
And British businessmen who walk directly through a frisbee game and cuss a kid out when they bump into him are stupid.
And a whole bunch of other places don't hide their stupid people very well. I think all of those middle eastern countries should hide people with an IQ less than 110, rather than women.

heh, u lucky bastards, I've gone to Vermont maybe twice, once went to Germany when I was about 2, so that doesn't count...
Other than that, I've only been to Las Vegas, Pheonix, Lake Powell and Lake Mead, all of which are contained in Utah, Nevada and Arizona.

I would say the times i've gone to countrys around the mediterranean have been the best. A trip to Australia was great to.

And i've gone to Amsterdam without even smoking a regular cigarette. Imagine that...

Heh, all that history and the hate that tends to build up after all that time.
Ah well, good with the bad and all...

You mean hate as in a fascist getting 20% in the french elections and a dutch right wing leader getting shot to death a few days ago? And an italian prime minister that controls large chunks of the countrys media?

Yeah our lovely Europe get's better every day it seems. :smash:
