    Squirrels as a DoW race

Sorry couldnt resist the urge but here it goes.
I've been seeing the enemy mechs picking off enemies into their gruesome death, I thought it would be really cool to implant squirrels into the game (mod in the future maybe?)

Consider this: an oversized squirrel runs down the street, see a space marine force commander, pick it up and start to chew him away like a piece of walnut with blood spewing everywhere!

I thought they could be similar to ork except with faster movement and stuff
Now here is the unit list:
    Scout= chipmunks
    regular grunts= gray squirrels
    commander unit= bigger squirrel
Relic ultimate unit mijiggy= oversized squirrel
Thats about what I can come up now guys. I am not sure why I decided to post it but I just couldnt resist the urge :smash:
Let me know what you think :blah:

(ok... I really need some professional help)

    I love it!

Definitely think you should introduce some unit upgrades, like wings:

    or skis:

Perhaps even make them swing in on vines?

yea, someone should really make a mod. I am occupied with a Half life 2 mod project at the moment =-\

as for close quarter combat upgrade, consider to use rabied squirrels. they act a bit like those pinky demon (forgot the name) that chaos would use. but close combats only.

I can't believe there are 12 replies. This is so stupid, it is funny.

If there is any proposition to make it, it would lead to the world's biggest drug bust in history. No-one in their right minds would be that mad.

    Ok, being serious hehe!

HQ: Start out with Great Old Oak Tree
Builder: Chipmunk. Upgrade with climb *can pass unpassable terrain no matter what*
Builds Lesser Oak Tree *builds all the squirrals*; Oaky Bunker for research *sort of like an oak tree textured rounded square; builds add ons for more advanced research, if you know about the Navajo Native AMerican houses built into the canyons, you know what I'm talking ; also builds tree listening post; autumn tree generator; old autumn tree super generator *generating oxygen for a cleaner world!*; and yeah! Generators could show chipmunks running on a wheel *those wheels you see in cages* Acorn Depot (builds vehicles and super uber squirrals*

Units: Great Old Oak Tree builds Chipmunk and cannon fodder grey squirral (super fast; CC only) The Lesser Oak builds Red squirral (CC specialist; very good in CC; a bit slower) Black Squirral (carriers a nice sized cannon on its back; slower than both squirrals; ranged specialist; ignores armor saves; shoots super powered acorns!; upgrades to super powered acorn bombs with a small artillery blast for every shot) and flying squirral *can jump over territory and move far quickly; CC specialist; can do lots of moral in CC*

For the Acorn Depot: You can build Roadkiller (which is basically a truck that moves REALLY fast and can run over enemies using rampage; rampage regenerates quickly; transports up to two squads at once) Acorn turret (nuff said; upgrade to acorn bomb for vehicles) Great Squirral (relic unit; CC + big ass cannon on its back that shoots really long range and powerful acorns bombs with really big artillery, and did I mentionl rips off marine head when in CC?!?!?! has purdy low health like 4000, but gains back lost health when it eats its target and doesn't lose health when not in combat)

Sums it up! What'd ye think?

As long as they have effective infiltrators I will fully support this mod. To not have them would simply go against how they fight wars in real life and would be a horrid disgrace to their fluff.

    Concerns...

While this all sounds fine and good I have a major concern. Balance.

Considering the power of Squirrels today, using their combined brute force, tactics and sheer determination, I fear that a respresentation of them in the 41st millenium could be hard to portray. Knowing what they can do NOW, just shows their unrivaled ability they could possess in the future... so how do we balance this?

I don't know all the answers I guess... but we should consider the mod not only capturing their essence but also to slightly modify the other races so they could at least attempt to handle the Squirrels. Perhaps some kind of upgrades or reasearch for anti-squirrel technology or weapons.

Only problem with this suggestion above, is (since it hasn't happened yet, we are just as ineffective today against their armies as we have been since the dawn of civilizations) how do you explain their anti-squirrel technology? Any help on this concern would ease my mind. Perhaps some of you can give some suggestions to back story to explain the impact they will have on the Imperium, so we can at least create our own fluff so it all makes sense.

Another concern, did we want to do the standard Squirrel Armies, or did we want to use the current factions that they have now in real life??

    Double Post

Wanted to add YES I know the brute force part only represents one of the factions of todays squirrels, I'm well aware that some use combined arms and ranged attacks and use far more finesse than some of the others, so don't flame me!

well, now you guys have it. Squirrels will be more of a ninja race than one of those ork races.
I think the weakness should be vehicles considering the amount of the roadkills we see each day.

Ok here is a run down of their history:
Who are the squirrels? (modified from the official Tau intro :P)
On the corner of the earth, a new race has emerged to challenge the might of the Imperium of Man and the other established races in the 41st millennium. They are the squirrels, a surprisingly advanced race that has organized itself around a single guiding principle known as "The Bigger Walnut."

By setting aside individualism to serve the needs of society as a whole, the squirrels have developed and reproduced at an astounding rate. In just over 6,000 years, they evolved from flattened roadkill to armored-vehicle-chewing madness.

This unhindered growth of population has given the squirrels confidence that there is no obstacle that their society and their science cannot overcome. Indeed, they believe that they can fill up every corner of the galaxy with more squirrels. All the other races must give squirrels an unlimited supplies of acorns.

Not surprisingly, the established races have other plans. To help "bring them around," the squirrels have invented some of the most lethal melee and ranged weaponry in Warhammer 40,000. Their basic troop type, called graysquirrels, are armed with oversized-teeth and razor-claws that can chew through armor like a big-arse-cannon through a cloud of fart.

Nut-based weapons would be devastating enough, but the squirrels also have oak tree armor and over-sized squirrels galore. Their camoed furcoat have unrivaled mobility on the battlefield, popping out from behind cover, chewing in a dangerous rate, and disappearing again before the enemy can react. The squirrels' "Oversized squirrel" pound opposing forces to bits while their flaming badger launcher bombs their enemies to their finger-licking-fried death. At either long or short distance, the squirrels can lay waste to ALL THE ENEMIES.
Yet, the squirrels are clumsy at dodging fast driving vehicle. They have put some nails on the road to pop the vehicles' tires to avoid being turned into road pizza. Despite this limitation, the squirrels are an emerging force in the galaxy that the established races cannot ignore.

    what about animations?

ive had some thoughts on that
like an ambient animation could be they look around while fickering their talis

and a CC win move for chipmonks could be it jumps up onto the enemys face and claw his eyes out , kinda like the white rabbit in monty pithone and the holy grayle(sp?)

In Monty Python, you never actually see the killer rabbit gushing anything out, just see it jumping, paint everywhere, people falling without reason, but no actual stuff! Anyway, First, we need unit list! Someone compile a unit and building list like the one I did a page ago.

  47. #47

    Unit list:

Gerbil Scouts, are camaflaged (sp)and are in large groups, good cannon fodder unit
Grey Squirrel, basic infantry that can be upgraded with different weapons
Flying Squirrel, a close combat unit that has high mobility and can jump into battle
    Hamsters, builder units
Mutant Squirrel, massive unit with a bunker on its back. Can carry units
Mech Suit, the Squirrel equivelant of a dreadnought has many opptions for weaponry
Badger Cannnon, a more powerful version of a traditional squirrel weapon, the badger catapult
Haevy Mach suit, a walking tank with powerful guns, can transport units
Qreat Squirrel, mounted on a war ferret, can call down exsplosive badger bombs
Shock Pandas, very powerful units that dominate the battlefield, are dropped down from orbit

    Buildings:

    Cammand Bunker, builds hamsters
    Power Generating Wheel
Landing Pad, units are brought in by dropships here
Panda Exspress, units are called down to any location on the map, is the only place you can get Shock Pandas
    Pillbox

for the giant squirrel, the death animation for enemy would be this:
squirrel picks up enemy (force commander, liberian whatever) starts to nibble him away (typical squirrel cute walnut eating action). after a while of nibbling, he would spit the enemy's head out.
A second idea I had is the squirrel would pick up the enemy, crush him with its teeth, dig a pit and burry em. (typical squirrel food storing action)

As for pandas, I was hoping that the squirrel faction could remain pure squirrels or related rodents. As an opinion, I personally think that squirrels should rely on melee with artillery support instead of conventional weapon upgrades like space marines.
    Just my 2 cents
