i definitely agree with terrific
i definitely agree with terrific
And for the record i agree with living legend lol. Pause causes it to be smooth, even with shadows off it lags when scrolling. AI/CPU bug for sure. I posted my dxdiag in the game reset to blue screen threadOriginally Posted by thelivingend

If this is indeed an issue of AI eating CPU time and such having nothing to do with graphics driver, why is it that a vast majority of people with slower cpus don't have this problem?
don't know, but from what i read in the forum, it could be a problem with amd, even ppl with amd with a higher clock than mine had the same problem.Originally Posted by Mac_Bug

hmmm i turned on easy tune 4 just to see if my cpu overheats and causes the chopiness but to my amazement WHEN GIGABYTE EASY TUNE 4 IS TURNED ON THE CHOPINESS IS INCREDIBLE WITH 1 SERVITOR ON SCREEN 2 SECS IN GAME...
Same problem here, enormous choppiness whenever an ai is running. It's a true disgrace this bug is still in the game, even after being reported again and again during beta.
I'm at work now, but once I get home I'll post full log/dxdiag files...
i have a 2500amd,gig ddr, and rad9800pro on gigabyte nforce2 400 ultra mobo on xpsp2 all optimized to hell n back i have no problems in any other game...my dxdiag and warnings log is already posted...its some win backprocess i tell ya...and easy tune kills game performance completely
i got the same problem too. the game jerks every few seconds regardless if i turn off all sounds and music, even at the lowest graphic settings (no shadows, low everything). and this on a brand new P4 3gh 512mb ram radeon 9600XT using Realtek ALC onboard sound chip with latest drivers on everything. story mode, skirmish mode, even the in-game cutscenes are bloody choppy. need urgent help here relic guys, i don't even know where to start troubleshooting. posting my warning.log here hoping someone can help me.

Wow. I am having very similar problems to people on this topic. I have:
P4 2.0 GHZ 533 FSB
1 GB DDR PC2100 RAM
Geforce 6800 OC
At first I thought it was my Ti4400. So I upgr. my graphic card and I'm still getting the choppiness. Scrolling, units moving, whatever. Not really sure what to do any more. Here is my thread :
http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=38561
I first started that thread with certain hardware, but now I've upgraded and I still have these problems! Help THQ!
Double Post
I just read a post in here where someone said they had one servitor and they already noticed the lag/chopiness. I ran a 1v1 skirmish, and before anything got started I noticed the lag with my servitor. What service/process could it be fore me.
This is unbelievable. Cheers everyone. Let's hope there is a fix in the future for this game.

Thou the game runs absolutely smooth when I get my 5 mins.. thou Im using a X800XT PE that rocked new life into my system, I never experience any lag at all now in ANY game.. not even doom3 at ultra high qual, with highest res and aa on and everything maxed.. its an amazing card..
Thou my 3.2 northy with 1gig xl ddr ram gives some boost as well..
I agree help RELIC!![]()
Same problem here , I have an 2200+ procesor and a 5700 nvidia card , i have two operating systems (WinXP and Win2000) and in both systems the game is jumpy. I tryed 4 different drivers... without avail. Any sugestions please ???
It cant Be AMD processors,
I have a
Windows XP
AMD 1700
40GB HD
512 Mb RAM/DDR (I dont know the difrence with RAM or DDR :s)
Gforce 4 TI4200
Soundblaster live 5.1 (I think)
And I play all Grafics on high (eccept shadows, thats on medium) and I can play with 2-3 Insane AI without big choppines (a little occurs when the battles take place)
It's something else .. i have a friend with AMD procesor with Radeon card and game work fine on his machine. I am sure this bug is not VideoCard dependent or procesor dependent or MB dependent... it's something else ... it's something else....
I will try to install SP2 for WinXP.. my friend has it and I don't have it... who knows maybe will work...
Hi
im also having this problem, scrolling is frame skipping and more units/buildings around worse it gets.
for info im running on
winxp pro with sp2
p4 2.6 @ 3.12
1gb pc3200
6800GT
it also did it last week when i have a radeon 9700
my friend's pc is very similer to mine, same motherboard etc, but he has a gf 5950 and he says it runs silky smooth

Yeah,
I tried rolling back the drivers, but to no avail - once again. This is really frustrating. I agree with the above poster I'm feeling really cheated. This is totally absurd.
And yes 3D camera on/off, it doesn't matter.
Being that I had a week off when i got the game I spent quite a bit of time testing different things and going crazy until i realized one simple thing: every other game that i played with my new 9800 se radeon ran great except this one, so i seriously considered selling the game on ebay to get some cash back but i decided to wait a couple days or a week for a patch..and nothing, this is the second game i have bought from these companies and will most likely be the last unless they fix this issue very soon, it is plainly unacceptable, especially since the demo ran so well and it is such an innovative approach to RTS
I have 256 Mb Ram on my Video Card and 640 Mb on MotherBoard.. i tryed 5 different drivers, i put SP2 on my XP.. no avail. I tryed yesterday to play the game and... it's unplayable... I also tryed all variation of settings , on , off, high, low, none... same results. If i pause the game the scroll is smoth if I unpause... the sttuter is there... and all this on 2 operating systems. Please relic give us a hint....
that's really frustrating, i even uninstalled the game until i get it to work
im gonna clock my cpu to 2700 to see if theres any difference...(from 2500)
Since everyone here is having problems, maybe it is something else besides drivers. Not sure what, but perhaps a service or process, DX9c or something else. This is totally unbelivable.
I played the demo on a P4 3.0 GHZ w/ a 5700. It ran amazing. The techie at the store told me it would run even better on my P4 2.0 with my 6800 OC. He was running at home on his P4 1.8 with a ATI 9800 Pro and he said it was really smooth.
Like I've said before THQ or Relic really need to address the disaparity in the results people are experiencing.
wow this sux, came to these forums with exact same issue hoping for some solution
im on level4 and its very choppy when scrolling around.
i noticed it on an earlier level as well then the one afer that seemed to be fine now its real bad.
when i pause game its nice and smooth. tried all sorts of settings nothing changes it
AMD 3200+
9800 Pro with catylist 4.9 (also tried 4.8)
SB Audigy
Nforce2 Ultra mobo with 4.27 drivers
pity, game seems very polished except for this glaring issue
overclocking did nothing...game was choppy as always
bah
Thanks for trying Raven. I was actually hoping you would come back with positive results. I hate optimism.
You know I ran FRAPS during play, and at the menu screen, I was getting 85 fps (max cause of my refresh rate). In game, I was getting 24-29 frames when scrolling and moving around in battle.- very start of Mission 1. 24-30 fps! That's unbelivable.
Cheers.
i let it at 2700 coz i have xcellent cooling and it keeps the cpu at 65 celzius...
but its crazy i mean look at this>
athlon xp 2700+
1 gig ddr
radeon9800pro
gigabyte nforce 2 400 ultra mobo
my drive is defragged
my xpsp2 pro is fully upgraded
my dx is 9.0c
i have newest drivers
i killed all processes which arent needed
i checked for viruses/spyware with avast antivirus/adawareSE latest definitions
i set ram latencys in bios to minimum, all cycles to lowest timings
i turned off/on fast write
i disabled my radeon9800pro secondary in device manager
i set aperture size to 128/256...nothing
i let windows manage my virtual mem/i put it static at constant 1 gig/nothing
i turned off all windows effects and now it looks like win95
i removed all icons from my desktop
the only thing that caused MORE choppiness is when i let gigabyte easy tune run in the background...and that thing eats like 2% of cpu so it should not have caused it...dunno but i can tell with 99% that its the code...
i clocked my damn cpu! nothing...
my dxdiag and warnings.log is already on this forum...
ull notice that im doing stupid things because im getting desperate...
Raven:
I don't know man. I'm thinking the same thing. While my system is not as potent yours, nothing is working here:

Ran three benchmarking software from 3dmark. Receiving comparable numbers to those with my hardware. Even matching those with 3.0 GHZ P4.
Tried every conceivable config for 40k.
Relic and THQ I believe are having troubling coming to terms with the fact that it's the software. Even BFGTech told me that.
It doesn't make sense that I can run Doom 3 and FarCry with my specs, and can't run this game.
I've seen this game run really well on the following:
P4 1.8 - 512 MB ATI 9800 Pro
P4 3.0 - 1GB 5700FX
I am really at a loss. This game reminds me of the buggy piece of crap that C&C Generals was until they patched the hell out of it.
Double Post
If THQ and Relic read this particular thread, help! I know you guys are trying your best. Myself, and some other people are out of options as to what to do next. I'm almost tempted to go out and buy a new proccessor, but I know it will have no effect.
I really hope there is a fix in the works. At this point, it is simply good business.
If i enter in Tutorial it works fine, if i Pause the game it works fine, when AI start tu calculate something the sttuter is there... i think it's AI that cause problems.
I have the same problem.
What i think is incredible is why this bug only affects some people, i have two friends that have the game and runs fine, they have an AMD like me, Nvidia cards...Why their games are running ok and mine not?
My specs are:
AMD XP 2800+
GF 4 4200 Ti 8x
512 MB
and the spanish version of DOW.
If it makes you feel better, this bug is international.
Waiting for a patch before play, AGAIN...
Ok let's make a rule .. i have a 2200+ and game don't work... one of my friend has a 1900+ and the game run perfectly. In what i observe, is that bug appear only on more powerfull processors. Is anyone to confirm/infirm my rule ?
The game runs fine for me and my bro. Here's our system configs.
my config:
AMD athlon 2500 barton
asus a7n8x-deluxe mb (nforce 2)
geforce 4 - ti4200
512 pc3200 ram
36 gig raptor hd
running winxp service pack 1
latest drivers
AMD athlon 2400
asus a7n8x-deluxe mb (nforce 2)
ATI radeon 9500 pro
512 pc3200 ram
36 gig raptor hd
running winxp service pack 1
latest drivers
I run the game at 1024*768*32 with low sound settings. The video options are all turned down, or off except for lighting which is on max setting. The game runs fine for me in games up to 4v4 then it gets laggy. One vs one games against players, or the computer run fine no scrolling lag at all for either system.
hehe.. ok .. my rule fall down....the only rule is that is no rule...
my next step is> format c: /q and all from scratch...
but if that doesnt work im gonna throw the game in the dumpster...so far it has been more trouble than worth
yeah! guess what....it didnt work

The game was programmed by Serbs, so they check to see if you're from Croatia, then make it run slow.
(inside joke with my croatian co-worker)
im not sure that u should have gone there but ok...
how bout you and your co worker do something about the damn game for which i gave my hard earned money?
I have exactly the same problem, which is why im on the forums.
Super choppiness when scrolling even though fps is 70+, mostly when playing with an AI opponent, but also in large multiplayer games.
Specs...
Athlon 64 3200+
Asus K8N-E Deluxe
2x512MB Kingston PC3200
Radeon 9800PRO 128MB
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
Windows XP Home with SP2
Catalyst 4.10 Beta
Nforce 5.10 mobo drivers
Latest Audigy drivers
Tried sound settings low, graphics low, resolution low, nothing helps!
I want to also add that ive barely noticed any performance increase what so ever from upgrading to the Athlon 64 from my Athlon XP 2800+, probably due to the choppiness lol.
Hey Uber et al:
I just got off the phone today with some from THQ. They were very nice. I explained to him my problem and said that it was ridiculous. He is running WH40k on a P4 1.8 with a Ti 4200. He says it runs awesome. I sure believe him.
I told him about my HW and all the options which UberJumper and others have pointed out. He says that even though he is not a programmer, he can't figure out why people with killer HW should be having so many problems. To help him understand the nonsense we are going through, I pointed him to this thread and my thread (Graphic Card reccomendations).
He found the threads and said he would certainly look into it - and get back to me (took my phone number and email). In the meantime, he asked to me to do a fresh install if I had the time. I made the time. I installed the following:
WinXP Home
SP 1
All Cirtical hotfixes and the like
Intel Chipset Drivers
DX 9.0C
Forceware 61.77
Latest SB Live Drivers
Installed WH40k
Rebooted
Defragged
Ran WH40k and I'm still getting same results. Conclusion: I think it may be SW.
Now there's nothing else on my computer, and I have work to do. Later everyone.![]()
conlcusion> its an ai bug especially evident in single player campaign...i put my copy of dow on 4 comps now and EVERY ONE OF THEM had this issue...
all of them are ABOVE the recommended specs...graphics details settings dont affect choppiness one bit
anyway i really like this game so its kinda weak that u couldnt tune and optimize it for 1 month more...

I'm just not seeing this whole AI issue... it doesn't stutter/lag at all for me :-/
GAH I wish I could see this happening.
In simplified terms the shutter thing is more like we are getting 2 frames per second. I can have everything in high detail at 32bit except for shadows. I must keep shadows in low.
P3.06 w/HT 533FSB
512Mb 1066 Rdram
Radeon 9700 Pro
Audigy 2

2FPS eh?
See that's just plain WRONG. My system's nothing like that at all... WTFELL is going on.
Heya. I've been having the same problems and I tried everything except defragging. I'm running on the latest patch and I only really experience this during the single player campaign. I have everything set to high except shadows though it's still pretty obvious that the problem is there. Also, the pathfinding for the AI seems pretty wonky but thats just me...and something entirely else..
My computer:
A7N8X-E Deluxe Duel 400 DDR
9800 Pro 128
1024 MB
3200XP+
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
Is it just me or does this problem only happen to those who have higher end systems? I'm running a Athlon1.2, 256sdram, FX5200 and I still get around though it is rather slow :smash:. I'm sure Relic is trying to find out whats up.![]()
same problem here..
system specs:
athlon xp 3200+
geforce fx 5900xt @500/900mhz
1024mb ram
nforce2 mboard
windows xp sp2

I hope RELIC will look at this forum... I like this game.....
yeah the game runs fine when NOT scrolling...relic should fix this or tell us how to play the game without scrolling, there is no stutter at all in 1v1 skirmish game, but 2v2,3v3,4v4 and single player campaign ARE ALL jerky when scrolling, no matter the amount of units it starts from the beginning it just gets worse the more u play and the more units (ai calculations) used...
mhh.. i tested the tutorial again.. it seems the problem is related to the number of units/buildings in the game.. because in the tutorial theres not much ai going on..
at first everything was smooth but once i got a few buildings set up the stuttering started again.. and it got worse with every unit/building i added
and this is with the *lowest* detail setting possible (which is rediculous (sp?) with my rig
