First off, go and try to join a game, then come back here and post the contents of your warnings.log file.

Second, need to know what kind of router you have.

"The host could not be found, The host may have quit or there may be connection issues make sure you both have correctily configured connections, firewalls, and routers"

First off, you've got a high speed connection? A cable modem? What does the cable modem hook up to? What's the name and model of the device.

Have you shut off the built in windows firewall?

It must be some kind of firewall software or some-such on your system. Nothing like zone alarm installed? Is windows firewall active?

Is that the only port you need to worry about ... is it TCP or UPD?

6112 UDP is the port for connecting to the game, so yes, that's the key one.

Post your warnings.log after a failed connection attempt please.

Go to your start menu, select Run and enter this into the box:

    %programfiles%\THQ\Dawn of War\

A window should open to your Dawn of War install folder, provided you installed to the default location. At the very bottom you should be able to see a notepad-like file called "warnings". This is warnings.log.

Open the file and select the contents, then copy and paste it into a message, between some code tags.

ÜberJumper, you folks might want to consider writing a "log retriever" application to copy log file contents to the clipboard, or an ActiveX control to insert the contents directly into a post. I see you asking people to write their warnings.log more often than anything else here

Mafia: You can find files using the windows search function. "Start" -> "Search" ->for files or folders, the name of the file in question here is warnings.log.

Please post your system specs. A solution to this is not fully known. I have the same problem and I assumed it was a rotour problem, but since you don't have one... (firmware, hardware shouldn't matter)

    I am using:
    Windows XP, SP2
    Norton System works

    Apparently not.

The only common link between us is Server Pack 2 which has been known to cause some issues with some games. However all that we are able to do is make sure that DoW is unblocked, which I have done. Other than that I am unsure of what can be done. It looks like sp2 is rejecting the host single or something. I kinda want to find a way around sp2, but if you got time try unloading sp2 and tell me how it goes....

    (assuming you have it)

So my theory of the day, its sp2.

It may also be other software blocking the connection.

Try posting a log file from http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt

A quick test would be to try to use mIRC to connect to something like irc://irc.hwcommunity.com

If you can connect to that, then you should be able to connect to gamespy. If you can't connect to that, then your school's blocking the port.

I get similar at times - and I do know that my system is configured correctly and yes 6112 is open.

Sometimes several different errors occur including:

    "The host has refused connection"
"The host can not be found"
"You were kicked from the game"
"Connecting" - this one takes forever and ends in the long message about host and connection......

    etc etc

In addition the random autokick from game room bug has not been fixed since beta.

How do I know its a buggy code? Because retrying several times - especially after relog - eliminates the problem and the same game that gave me all those errors works without a problem.

Since obviously I simply retried - my set up as well as the setup of the host and people in the game have remained unchanged - the fault is either with gamespy or with DoW.

It could, quite possibly, be Gamespy's NAT Negotiation servers.

This bug seems to appear at random.

I met a friend in the lobby and we wanted to play together. One day i need to open the game because he gets the "the host could not be found"-message, another day it's vice versa.

Once it changed just after we rejoined the lobby after a game. I'm running a wan ping block firewall on the router but nothing else. It doesn't explain why it changed right after a game.
