In theory though team games have the potential to be more skillful. It'd be very interesting to see the top 10 play some team games.

And Fen, since you don't find team games challenging (which they aren't usually in fairness), and since you have two accounts in the top 10 (last I checked), then the answer is simple-get down to a cyber cafe and play two armies at once. :bandit:

Fenris and Mystic versus, I dunno, Ghostridah and Landwehr? I'm sold. Gotta be entertaining at least.

well if you are really interested to see me play a team game. heres a 3v4 i decided to play today because i was bored and didn't feel like playing competitively.

got abit greedy and tried to take out HQ + barrack, but ended up taking out only barrack with orbital. was an ok game, sorta enjoyed it i suppose. terminators, bloodthrister etc..

Plz read carefully through the stickied threads before you post. If you had looked you would have found:

    http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=38232

This thread is about Fenris-X2's replays (or reps of his choosing) ...
If a mod can delete some of these off topic posts I'll remove this part of my post.

    Why a 3v4? Needed a challenge?

Anyway, thx for the rep, watching now.

    EDIT:

Well, it was entertaining alright. I really loved to see the allied messages that were sent, it gives you a pretty solid idea what was going on at the time and shows your teamwork pretty well.

Still, it almost went wrong at the start, because your whole team was teching so much. ~ Good stuff.

Hey Fenris, I got a request for you. For some reason, no one will take it seriously, lol.

I want to see how you would fare, 1v1, against an insane Ork AI With Quick Start turned on in Starting resources, preferrably with just annahilation on, to give you a chance . Or, even better, how you and 3 of your friends would fare against 4 Insane Orks under these conditions

And please don't just shrug this off, I doubt you've even considered switching starting resources to quick start. Makes you have to actually use a strategy and not just rely on a few boring and overused tactics. :smash:

Well part of the appeal of team games is precisely what u said: u can afford to tech a whole lot more. in 1v1 u almost never get to tier 3 unless its a VERY even match or some1 screws up big time.

Of course, unless u got a copule ppl u know online its really a coin toss: if ur entire team drops or sucks its almost impossible to win in many circumstances. Its why u almost never see good team replays: if one guy on one side gets caught with his drawers down almost half the time they drop, another guy sorta gives up and drops, and then its over. Either that or ppl (ive really noticed my fellow americans being guilty of this as opposed those of other nationalities...for shame) do a lone-wolf thing and don't send anyone if some1s gettin triple-team rushed. ur position is broken before it can even be established and game over.

Also, Ive gotta say this for some of those quick-start team spam-fests: They can be fun. Absolutely no skill involved mind u, but on occasion its good mindless fun :bandit: just pray that no-one in the game has a lame comp. That and the option is invaluable for testing out or checking unit stats to prove certian imbalances that still exist.

Buhamut Zero: quickstart can be shrugged off for anything involving skill because the game is not balanced for those kind of starting resources. Theres no real strategy there beyond mindless unit/tech spamming. Fun, but mindless.

Why do you post something like that while making a request? That seems pretty counterproductive to me ...

How you get it into your head that top ladder players are not using strategy, defies all logic. Show some respect, or otherwise plz refrain from posting here ever again, thank you.

    EDIT:

See above posts also about Quick start ... some good points there.

It is similar to Starcraft BHG in many ways...

Especially since quick-start and high resources is the anti-thesis to RTS strategy. I remember I played a guy who was absolutely convinced that quick-start had mroe strategy because it allowed you to have more units to play with. Of course, an RTS with unit production is NOT total war and all the balance is thrown out of the window.

Thus when we played, it turns out we both just mass rax'd and machine cult and spammed units at each other. Where was his strategy? Yeeesh, not to mention the fact that highly priced untis are unbalanced in the quick-start/hi-res rates scenario. Mmmm mass PSM!

Hmmm, you guys keep saying it's fun, yet requires no skill. Not caring about skill, why do you guys play them for fun then? you keep saying it's good fun, why not do it? I'm not getting why you say having fun in a GAME is a bad thing. :smash:

having fun sucks because it ruins your ranking!!! seriously thats what ive concluded with all these hotshot players. they just dont know how to have a fun game. oh now fenris... bloodthirsters and terminators. man that musta been boring to play a game that went that long for you mate.

its fun for when i feel like pissing around, but sometimes competition is fun so i prefer to 1v1. the reason i even start playing team games is because 1v1s are so damn hard to find. sometimes i spend 20-30minutes waiting for a game before i give up and if i disconnect once, i lost several hours waiting time just to get the points back.

This stickied thread is not about discussing ladder play vs anything else. =/

I will stop replying to these things, as it will only make it worse.

    EDIT:
But since it is Fenris' thread, I leave that to him to decide. :duck:

lol actually 1v1 is the easiest matches to find. everytime i click 2v2 or mroe in automatch is takes ages. if i tick 1v1 it beams me into a game within a minute easy.

Hmmm...about 5 posts have been deleted...lol. guess He didn't like that last one I made about the one he made

    Anywho, again, nice replays Fenrsi

EIDT: Hmmm, after watching your team replay more thoroughly, I'd say you could have done ALOT better. I know you were just having fun Fen, but you were barely trying :\

I mean come on, the entire game you had an unbuilt 6th power gen started after complaining about being out of power :Slap: And you could have upgraded all those Lps and gotten 24 more req inc

    I just watched:

    "Replay #3 - Eldar(Fenris) vs SpaceMarine(Stratus) [2]"

Does anyone know, or if Fenris can answer himself, the purpose of starting to build the power building first, then moving over to build an aspect portal, then finishing the power building, then resuming to build the aspect portal w/ 2 bonesingers?

I imagine that this allows you to build both in a faster period of time, but I don't see how. If someone could explain that, I'd appreciate it.

Also, teleporting a bonesinger to tie up a squad into using melee to buy a bit of time was classic! Couldn't get enough of that. Very amusing demos to watch.

was probably just me being a noob and being undecided on what to build first haha.

can't remember that game but i will say that 2 singers on 2 seperate buildings then bringing the singer from the first completed building to help the other is faster than 2 singers building the 2 buildings 1 by 1. Relic put in some sort of cap on building speed so that the speed increase is not linnear.

OK might as well rewrite the whole thing.

I just tested out the build times and this is how it goes:

    Servitors vs Barracks:

    1 on 1: 45 seconds
    2 on 1: 30 seconds
    3 on 1: 30 seconds
    etc etc

The rest could just as well lean on the building and light a cig since they ain't helping. I didn't bother to test with other races but I asume that 2 builders are a max. So considering this if you eldar turret rush you might as well send out those excess bongers to stab the opposing units while 2 guys do the job, making the whole tac a lot more effective, considering the tactic already is very effective....

Added the file for your viewing pleasure.

dunno, i had asked for it to be taken off sticky a while ago. i don't really think i've got any replays worth posting really. losing to an eldar with orks and losing to an ork with SM isn't really worth posting and neither are low level wins.

I thought u played Chaos now Fenris? well thats what i heard anyway. The new eldar player in town is select select, u played him?

A after patch replay would do. Either way i just wanna watch more replays to learn more.

    Thanx

i think hes basically one of those do whatever it takes to win Eldars. prepatch used all the bugs, postpatch still holds his own without bugs. think he is a starcraft player, i've heard his micro is pretty good. Oh and it'd be good if someone deleted this thread, I can't do it myself since *cough* I can't log on Fenris-X2 anymore and it'd be a waste of people's time and bandwidth to download replays that no longer work in version 1.1

Closing this down at Fenris' request; it's definately still interesting from a historical point of view, even with the 1.1 patch, so I won't be deleting it entirely.

Thanks to Fenris for posting these replays, and to everyone who's taken part and contributed in any way. Thread Locked.
