    Alright,so how can I expand?

    Recently I've bought a second-hand ~1110 points Tau army from my friend and it's the ollowing(except stated,rest are from my friend and can't change equipments since they're fixed tight):

    HQ:
    1 Commander,2 Bodyguard(all with Plasma Rifle+Missile Pod,Commander with Multi-tracker and rest Target Lock)

    Elites:
    3 Crisis(all with 2-linked Fusion Blaster and Shield Generator)

    Troops:
    36 Fire Warrior(3 Leaders in between and 1 with Markerlight)

    Fast Attack:
    11 Drones

    Heavy Support:
    2 (soon be 3 cos 1 haven't built,one is mine) Broadsides(Railgun with Smart Missile,both with Multi-Tracker)

    After I lost a match soon after I got it,I decided to expand my army.But in HK the price is so high and I'm so poor that I can't expand them all of a sudden.

    Here's some known units and its prices(in USD,after converted):
    Fire Warrior Squad=Kroot Squad=33.3396
    Crisis=20.5170
    Broadside=~26.9247
    Devilfish=38.4693
    Hammerhead=42.3162

    Rest I forgot.

    So how to expand my army,or but which unit first to strengtghen my army?
    Thanks.

    Arise, my Iron Legionnaires!!
    Only argue with me about 40K gaming after reading this, about Tau after this, this and this, and about Space Marines after that.Remember!

    -Yeah Kroot are worth it, they help defend your firewarriors with their HTH ability.
    - Stealth suits are great little Tau guys running around with burst cannons, they are constantly in nightfight.
    - Pathfinders?? with a devilfish and maybe some rail rifle upgrades, these guys are great and work well pretty well in most games.
    - Yeah get at least 3 broadsides and make sure you convert some shield drones for them.
    - Hammerhead(s) these are pretty good and can be difficult to take down at times.
    - Krootox? maybe a few of them to add to a unit of kroot, they can be quite good.

    Lastly if you haven't already get the CODEX!!!! It will help you with colour schemes conversions, etc

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers

    Well before you go buying more models lets setup what you have for a decent shot a success.

    If the person you bought the army from is really your friend he should still have the spare weapon bits from the crisis suits. Then with some patience and a small knife you can setup those suits to actually do a job they should do.

    Make sure to read the Tau Tactics and Tau Philosophies threads in this section of the forum, will save me repeating alot.

    First get rid of the bodyguards on the HQ. He needs his IC status to protect himself from being dropped early. Make your commander a Shas'El and twin link his missile pod, and hard wire a multi tracker. This makes him very efficient at taking down light armor or well armoed troops.

    Now this leaves you with 5 crisis suits. You could go ahead and take a 2nd Shas'EL setup just like the previous one.

    With 4 suits left you can easily make 2 units of 2. The sheild generators are a waste, your suits shouldn't be getting shot at to need the 4+ inv save. Fusion blaster is a poor weapon choice, your heavy supports should take out heavy armor while your HQ's and elites deal with light armor and troops. Stick with the classic Fireknife configuration of missile pod + plasma rifle + multi tracker. this will drop lighter vehicles and marines with ease.

    Take your 36 Fire Warriors and go with 2 squads of 12 each lead by a Shas'ui. Ditch the Markerlight and don't mix in any carbines. You want to get the most from concentrated shooting so make sure to get the most from your str 5 ap 5 pulse rifles.

    Broadsides are really not the best choice in v4 rules but we can work with that. First forget about the multi trackers, if something is close enough to need that much shooting at your probably already hurting. Give each suit a hard wired drone controller and then 2 shield drones each. Just take the guns off your gun drones and nobody should complain about WYSIWYG. This way under the majority toughness/armor rules your suits can live in their own.

    This leaves you with 5 drones left. For now put them in a fast attack unit but as you get more drone models add them in to bulk this squad up to 8.

    Now for some recommendations on purchases.

    Getting a 5-6 man stealth team would really help with getting rid of infantry. I would sau just 5 is all you need. I run alot of 5 man stealth squads and they do just as well as a 6 man squad does. Pick up 2 blisters and shas'ui blister, gives you a 6th drone for your drone squad.

    Next get yourself some hammerheads. The railgun sub round is deadly at getting rid of mass troops and with the proper defensive gear is really hard ot take down.

    Next pickup a Devilfish and mount up a squad of your fire warriors in it. After you have more $$$ pickup a full squad of 8 pathfindersand let them use the fish. Give the fish 4 seeker missiles and you will have another quick form of armor removal.
