[1v1] Space Marine vs Eldar. Howling Banshees 4 the win! ;)

    Map: Battle Marshes

Players: Mistake 14++ SM vs Cheddar_Onion 13++ Eldar.

    Winning conditions: Standard automatch

Winning condition triggered: Annihilation (player dropped)

Duration: EDIT: not getting the sync error anymore.

    <10 minutes

    Battle report:

EDIT: After checking the replay the SM player doesn't go for a 'hard' scout rush, it's more of just very early harassment, decaps some of my points and harasses guardian squads. Tac squad shows up and starts shooting one of my LPs so I send my farseer into combat with them and she pushes them back. I get some howling banshees for support while the SM player brings out a FC and a small skirmish takes place, marines are slowly pushed back while my farseer dances away from the FC, some guardians also try and help. FC is killed while the FS narowly escapes after being stunned and I start moving towards his base. At this point the SM player starts using F2 but it's too little too late, especially with the farseer knocking marines around. She is eventually killed but the damage is already done.

I build a 2nd banshee squad and set the rally point to the other side of the map in an attempt to flank him but in all the heat of battle I totally forget about them. D'oh. The SM player quits out since I begin capping his points and he probably has nothing left.

Seriously, someone needs to give my howling banshee unit a medal. They manged to take out at least 3 or 4 tac squads.

This, i must say, is how Eldar is meant to be played.

It was a well played game and you had a good strategy to back up your banshee tactics.

A word of advice however: Fleet of Foot actually does effect melee combat. Those banshees were doing about half of the damage they could have been.

Otherwise a short but enjoyable watch (I think it was less than 10min)

Nice use of banshees, the SM player was busy with his FC and never retreated his SMs so they got chopped up . I think if i was the SM player i would of gone for 2x 4 SM rather than 1x8 which suffered from being constanly tied up and with no way to use their guns (unless you exploit f2, natch)

Also, i liked the use of bonesinger to scout, then retreat without notice. Usually early recon has the negative effect of telling your opponent what race you are for free where as you had to play for the same information.

    LOL!

I especially love how he tried to "abuse" F2 against the banshees.

Apparently he doesn't realize that marines do a LOT more damage with their knives in melee than they do with standard bolters using the F2 bug. Like, about two and a half times as much. Which makes him both an exploiter AND stupid.

Nicely played, though. You might want to lay off guardians meleeing scouts though. You cut their damage from 6.5 dps to 2.4 dps when you do that against scouts. Unlike marines, which generally do well in either ranged or melee, eldar units really blow in melee. Except the ones that are meant to melee, of course.

See, this is why F2 isnt really an exploit as such, just that for certain weapons, an inbalance.

Well I'm glad people are able to watch it.

Yeah, I was expecting him to dance a bit more/better so I was leaving FOF on more than I should have been. My micro still could be improved on so I tend to slack off a bit when turning FOF on/off/on/off etc. in a battle.

I think I did this because his scouts were staying in the light cover, was probably just a bad judgement call.

huh? sorry i dont get this?

how could they do more damage with a close range weapon and still use the f2 bug?

Maybe im not understanding the f2 bug properly but i thought it only applied to ranged weapons?

What hes saying is that with marines with no weapon upgrades, your much better actually fighting in CC then 'using' the F2 technique with bolters. You'll do way more damage.
