    Monitor just shutdowns

Argh, I thought I managed to get rid of that game ruining crash, but no, there it comes again to ruin my most exciting MP games.
The problem is that when I have played this game for a relatively long time in some point my monitor just turnes off and keyboard doesn't take any commands. Still the fans and other stuff inside the central unit are on. Only thing that works is the power and reset buttons. Has anyone had the same problem? I have my self thought that it could be a overtheated video card because when I turned the VPU-recover off it didn't do that for a while. I have even inserted new cooling systems for my video card but as it seems it didn't help. And no errorlogs are created by the game during this.

Do you have an nVidia card? I've had the same issues and they seem to be related to the 61.77 drivers, specifically the nvidia driver service shutting down.

Post your dxdiag.txt and warnings.log file please.

Ive encountered the same problem. My monitor just shows a little sign for a second that says: no signal. I think it has something to do with the temp or something... Because the temp. on my chassie is just "too high".
It is quite alarming. Or are there other reasons for this?

    Please help...

Does it only happen with WH40K: DOW or all the games you try to run? Do as uber suggested and post your dxdiag files and error logs. Ummm if it's anything like what happened to me though...

I had an Inno3d GeForce 4 ti-4200 replaced after six months due to that shutdown problem. But before I had my card replaced, I tried to alleviate the problem by trying numerous vidcard/chipset drivers and buying a new, more powerful power supply unit and some extra fans. It didn't help. The technician who tested my card also couldn't figure out the possible cause of the problem so it was immediately replaced. And things just got worse as the replacement, a brand new Inno3D GeForce 4 Ti-4200 AGP8X version, had the same issue after two weeks of usage.

I'm guessing that certain components on the card were 'substandard' and extended use along with high temperatures just wore those components out. Needless to say, I stopped buying that brand afterwards and things have been fine. BTW, that problem's not confined to any particular brand, Leadtek and Gainward has also had such problems, albeit on much rarer occasions, except with Inno3D it was happening at a very high rate here in the Philippines (where Inno3D is a brand that all computer shops carry).

What you could do is try testing the card on another computer under the same conditions to see if the problem pops up. If it does, then maybe you should have your card replaced.

I have AMD Athlon 1ghz @ 1.2ghz, ATI Radeon 64MB DDR vivo (7200 series), and EPOX 8K7A+, and 512mb. No other game has crashed this way. And I have tested my computer with SuperPi and 3dMark, and no problems. Of course since I play this game many hours, and those tests doesn't test it for so long, the problem can still be overheating. But I still doubt it because I improved the cooling system of my video card a lot, with no noticeable effect. It is just annoying to test this problem because it takes time before the crash occurs, and it is quite random (and seems to strike every time I have the most exciting gameplay going . Next I will propably test to update my motherboard drivers, as it recommends that in the readme file.

Can you try shutting off VPU recover in the driver options for your video card?

It is already off. I turned it off and thought that I solved the problem but the problem came back as I said in the first post.

Can you take a look in your System Event Viewer for anything that indicates a problem with your video card?

We managed to fix this exact problem on a friends computer. They have an ATI card (9800), and we solved it by using 16 bit colour when you run the game. Now it runs perfectly

Would be nice to see a fix though..

Hey, if that works I'm a really happy man, I have tried almost every available thing. Do I have to set my windows using 16bit colours or just the game or both?

    javec,

Try both. Hope that suggestion fixes it =).

Well, 16 bit colour may look like ass.

It could be that the monitor's losing signal because it can't display the game in the requested resolution and colour depth or something silly.

Lowering it to 16 bit would help that.

In the case of my friend, the resolution and colour depth were supported by his monitor, and worked with every game except DoW It seems to be DoW specific.. very odd, I know.

I have seen other posts on this forum with this exact same issue (I manually trawled the whole thing to find this fix), and the other suggested solution has been to disable the secondary head on the graphics card (if it exists - like it did on the ATI 9800). This didn't resolve the issue in our case, but other people have reported sucess.

Im using 9800xt.. And the problem has not occured for two days now. I changed the resolution. It seems i had it too high for the game..

because my monitor supports 1200 something, by 1200 something..

Hmm. I will be reporting later today whether it works or not. I played with my windows turned on 16bit two games yesterday with no problems, so I'm quite optimistic about it now (I have to, because I don't know what else to do anymore ). I don't think my problem is beacuse of my monitor since it is quite good one, and when the crash occurs, it should only then affect to a monitor.

Just to make sure its well documented I too am having the same problem with a Radeon 9600 - I recently upped the res and the problem has only occured recently.

Seems to happen only in MP (?) but then mostly playing MP

Anyway dropping res back down and seeing what happens

Well, it didn't crash when playing. But it crashed once when I was in the multiplayer lobby, but not with regular way. Mouse moved but I couldn't press any buttons with it. Then I tried some keyboard commands but no use until I started hearing the pc-speaker sound and then it went to this monitor off crash. It's ok if it just works when playing, I turned the gamecolours still also to 16bit.
