Wierd problem. Game refuses to start, unless..

Hi, I've looked through all the topics and have found nothing related to my problem, so i'm not even sure you guys can help...

Basically, I install the game and can play it fine. I get off the game and come back to play it again later and I get the Windows XP error message.

Now I checked my little warnings report, as I assume this is where the problem will be shown and I get this :

    W40K started at 2004-11-06 11:07
OS NT 5.1, 512MB Physical Memory
    RUN-OPTIONS
    WORKING-DIR C:\Program Files\THQ\Dawn of War
    USER Christie

11:07:51.9 PLATFORM -- Duplicate instance of app
11:07:51.9 APP -- The Application Failed to Initialize the Platform Window
11:07:51.9 AppInitGlobal -- Failed load for step: ''

    Application closed without errors

The only way I can play the game is uninstall it, then re-install it again and playing it straight away.

Any help would be muchly appreciated

That warning is usually displayed when you start the game twice, like when you double-click on it multiple times.
Can you play it a couple of times or only once per reboot?

I can play it as much as I want until I reboot the computer. Then I have to un-install, then re-install to play again.

I's nothing to do with double clicking though

You're not the first one to have this problem. I don't remember if we ever found a fix for it, though. I'll see if I can dig up the old thread tomorrow.

Obviously no one has a clue, including me. I have noticed though that it stops working permanently once I use Media Player.
    Any ideas on that anyone?

This is getting increasingly weird. I wasn't able to find the old thread, it appears to be hiding from me.
Ok, do you get any additional errors?
Oh, and please post a log from http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt.

There's the thread I think you're looking for Moe.

Folks might need more info to help, but a dxdiag (use the CODE command to post it ) might help a bit to see your system specs.

Did you have a demo version installed at some point?

I recommend downloading a registry key cleaner. Uninstall Warhammer, clean your registry, reboot, then reinstall up to the current patch. If it's a stuck key, that could fix it.

Oh, and what version of media player are you using?
