Isn't tim burton dead? But back to toppic.
#802
He just recently released Charlie and the Chocolate factory so if he died it certainly slipped under my radar. Wonder if Tim would ever be interested in doing a story based on the 40k world, it's just dark / gothic enough to appeal to his tastes. I imagine he could come up with a decent interpretation of the Lord of Change.
Whats the next model on the to - do list or Thousand Sons, you seem to be reaching a pretty comprehensive stage where you have most models in place now? Sorry if this has been asked before it's hard to keep up with every thread / forum.
Well we do need to create quite a few more models before we can hope for a full release. Things have a way of taking much longer than we thought they would.
From what I know we need at least these models to get done before we can hope to say we are finished:
- builder unit (Thrall Wizards)
- bodyguard units for the sorcerer lord
- An improved Flamer model
- HQ
- 3-4 other buildings
- Eye of Tzeentch (wip name/drone unit)
Currently I´m responsible for all models (though help seems to be on the way) which means I´ll need quite a few weeks to get them all done. Worse is that Mit Gas has to do all the textures to ensure consistency and painting those takes much longer than creating a model.
I believe the LoC is that last model to be done, because the other stuff is used alot and the LoC isnt. but that ma be old info
edit: oh yeah the builders and buildings too. my bad. but didnt mit say your using the old chaos high sorcerer for the bodyguards?
and what is this eye unit?

Yeah the full getting models from nothing to in game and animated / textured is a lengthy process.
I'm suffering the same problem texture artist wise. You know your having problems when the coder is working on the model textures / animations etc... lol It's the same with any project that involves a lot of models. Genuinely good texture artists are very hard to find.
Your lucky to have one that can produce textures that look so clean it makes a huge difference in how people perceive your work.
It's high quality work though guys, decent start of a demo reel if your looking to get into the industry.
If any of you have any aspirations in that area let me know and I'll see if I can give you some pointers.
the "eye unit" is supposed to be kind of a stealthy scout unit. we thought about making it a summonable unit with a limited lifespan before the thread went off-topic, but please correct me if I´m wrong..
and if tim burton is really making this prequel, I´m gonna die. nightmare before christmas anyone?
The chosen will look like this guy by adrian smith:
Love that guy.
And thanks for the offer Shin but neither D nor me want to work in the games industry. It's a cool job but I think we don't love this hobby enough to make it our job simply because we know we'd loose the fun in making game art after a few years. That said and to show off as usual to make us even less sympathetic, we've got a few invitations by wellknown companies already.
The LoC was supposed to be the last unit to get done and of course he isn´t the most important unit gameplaywise since he can only be summoned after quite some time.
Still Tzeentch may not be pleased with having to wait so long, that´s the reason we decided to hurry up with getting the most interesting unit done.
@ShinGouki: Thanks, dude. We are pretty happy to stay amateurs. I´ve had my bunch of freelance work and I since I actually have a totally different background I also have a different kind of job now. It´s just nice to be able to make some game assets now and then.![]()

Well no worries, the games industry isn't nearly as exciting as most people think anyway. It really needs some kind of union to stop the current trend of working employee's to hard. EA are particularly bad at this.
As for the showing off.. lol well you guys seem to thrive off the amusing amount of criticism thrown at you these days, I don't think I've ever seen a mod team incur the wrath of quite so many people. Seems to have gotten a little out of hand though.
My personal opinion, not that you need it, is that sure sometimes you come across as a little arrogant etc.. don't care about the community blah blah. To be honest that doesn't bother me in the slightest seing as it's your work and you can say what you want about it. Seing the amount of abuse you guys have received over this recently I can sympathise with why you sometimes maybe get a little over defensive about things. Maybe you should just start a thread in your forum named *direct all bitching here* to keep it all out of your screenshots threads.
Back on topic I really like the darker look of work like Adrian Smith's. Games workshop seemed to have tamed their artwork over the years. Even John Blanche's stuff though bizzare at times at least conveyed the very unique world of 40k. It really is a dark hostile place with no real *good guys* to speak of.
Just out of interest what reference have you used for your flamers? Are you going with one of the older drawings from something like Realms of Chaos : Lost and the Damned, or something more recent?
For the flamers I was thinking of the more recent miniatures as the base. And one of the drawings in the Hordes of Chaos (WHFB) armybook; it's really amazing. i think it's by Karl Kopinski (another amazing artist) but I'm not sure.
Many people wish for the flamers to share a few characteristics with one of deathbunny's drawings, fish number 1, so we'll try to get a bit of that into it as well if possible.
That said, people bitch if we're nice or if we aren't nowadays so there's no need to be nice is the conclusion. Everyone has different ideas about how the models should be and if someone says: "change this or that" and his ideas aren't really good, it won't happen.
Like before when one guy said we should unmask Ahriman. Sure, you could say now we're arrogant because we don't but I think the idea isn't the best, simply because more people would be pissed off than vice versa.
Heh, well i know quite a few people gone professionial and most share your thoughts. Some do work for EA, btw.
Just to clarify. the flamer has bene modelled once before but we decided to make a new version. Haven´t started on it yet. But will soon.
Regarding my work and criticism: I really do feel sometimes that I need to explain just why and what we do. People aren´t easy to please though.
I´m just being honest when telling that i make models because I like this hobby of mine and I work for this mod because that is a good way to do something that might make some other people happy. I could just as well create models that rot on my harddisk but what´s the point of that?Although some more variety would be nice..... been doing too many armored fighting machines lately.
So while I do like to see that some people will have some hours of fun with my work i don´t even pretend what others do, that i work just for the community. I´m not. i do it because I want to. Unless i´m paid I very seldom do anything because others want it. I don´t even play DoW nowadays. I will, just to see our work in action but the game itself like most RTS isn´t my cup of coffee. Not relic´s fault.
I don´t even dig all aspects of Warhammer 40k or Warhammer or GW or even fantasy tabletop games. Not into that thing. But I like some of the artwork and find some very good ideas in this detailed universe. the chance to use those as a base for a mod is just cool.
Whether or not my art pleases some 14 year olds is not what drives me and if they complain about anything I don´t feel the sting of the words. Unfortunately (for them) most people don´t have enough experience in these matters that they can offer true critique. Well, you can´t if you don´t spends years in front of the machine doing this stuff. But people should try. like every from of art (even if it is a lousy sort compared to true talents like composers and great painters) it´s a good thing.
So much for myself being arrogant.
but like I said it´s a very nice side-effect if some guys out there will have fun playing our mod and I really want to make as good a job as possible. So as long as we get sensible critique (nothing having to do with our personality- as if anyone in here knew us) i try to listen to it and think about how it may help me to further improve my stuff. At least next time. Most people start posting possible changes when we are done. It´s usually too late then- after all you guys want us to be done at some point, don´t you?
I just like to say your mod are one of the highlights and one of the reasons i so regurly visit this forum. Just t ocheck up on progress etc. So i think you guys can rest easy with all the critisims thrown your way. Just do the mod in your image and your liking. Im sure it will all pan out great.
PS im so pleased with the ahriman model in game. Since he is one of my favorites from the TS models. And i also think his history is one of the more intressting ones, basicly the enraged magicans who bited of more then he could chew and became a demons puppet, when he so wnated the tables turned hahah![]()
You guys are arrogant? News to me. Either way, I really want your mod to come out, the production values are professional and make this mod look official.

That's a wicked commander. Are noise marines tzeentch? What demons do they have apart from LoC?
Noise marines are devoted to slaanesh. The Thousand Sons can have tzeentch horrors, tzeentch flamers and screamers, they might also be able to use furies but im not sure.
No furies...![]()
aren'r furies khorne only.
and off-topic stevocarty when are you going to send me that icon creation tutorial.
Yeah i didnt think they could use them , but i just wasnt sure cause i seen them in the ts minis gallery on the gw website a while back.
http://uk.games-workshop.com/chaossp...ons%2Dgallery/
And I fully accept his judgement. It is after all his mod.Like before when one guy said we should unmask Ahriman. Sure, you could say now we're arrogant because we don't but I think the idea isn't the best, simply because more people would be pissed off than vice versa.
![]()
Sorry for forgeting your name in the above example, my brain is damaged beyond repair.
I hope you won't hate us for not taking Ahriman's helmet off.
That said, furies aren't allowed in a TS list from what i can remember.
Just get screamers.
Fury = pwn3d.
Nope, no furies in the mod. Redundant unit.
We're thinking of adding a scout unit. With a brand new state-of-the art model (most likely a simple eye). That could look demonish.
The lord of change looks excellent, I like the skeksis look it has, but the feathers could be a lot more colourful.

The dreadnought is kickass!!
Not just the dreanaught, the whole freakin mod is awesome. I just CAN'T wait to try it. Espacialy with those "ghost " marines ( sry can't remember the name )
They are "rubric marines"... And I agree, I really can't wait to try the mod!!!![]()
rubrics bud
thks guys rubrics Marines it is. Btw the render they did for a wallpaper soooo did the desktop and will be on it for sooo long.
ROFL when i learned how they were created lol poor Magnus after all he tried to achieve. lol they don't call them the ruineous force of chaos for nothing.
Any idea on WHEN this mod will be released ?
closed beta should be out soon, as for when that is, no idea, i believe mitgas and mrD decide who gets into the closed beta
Well, once the 1.4 mod tools are out, the code will be completely rewritten (because it is quite chaotic at the moment) - when this will be finished depends on Hraefn and Darth Vaygr and how difficult certain things are.
Sorry we take so long but you guys know you'll be the first one to play it. Thanks for the support and interest, I appreciate it since all we get nowadays is more or less criticism anyways.
i can't see any reason why you should be criticised. you're doing an awfully good job with your mod, the screenshots look great, the techtree is worked out well and the coding sounds promising from what i can tell.
in the end you're doing the mod because you want to, not because you have to please others, so don't let yourself be discouraged by any kind of not constructive criticism.
at least i'm eagerly but with a lot of patience awaiting your first mod release.
Actually the whole purpose of this mod is to please me:jest: Or at least it seems that way.![]()
careful fig or you may find a certain bunny may start "looking" for you hehe.
everyone knows the TS mod team makes this mod in the name of all those who hate those loser space puppys.
Edited for accuracy.everyone knows the TS mod team makes this mod in the name of all those who hate those loser seven foot tall space dudes with cool ultra-thick ceramite-plated powered armour and a semi-automatic hand-held rocket launcher to boot
Ever seen what a puppy looks like when it's been kicked too much by it's owner?
Me neither.
Well, you could have big brutes with fangs who "Know no tactics!", or you could have cool looking, suave, purposeful guys with magic swords and staves commanding big 9 foot tall slow, calm, purposeful, really powerful dudes with no bodies that REALLY know no fear!
And don't forget, helmets count.
Not to say I don't like Thousand Sons. They've always been the best evil bastards and they will always stay the best evil bastards.
Bring on the Rubric Marines! (And at least one Thousand Son with no helmet. Just one, please. I want to see your skills with faces.)
There's a picture of the Terminator Squad Leader out since many weeks with no helmet. Here it is:
That's your one son without a helmet.![]()
I'd say skill proven.
And can I make a request? How about substituting Rubic Marines with some Noise Marines? Or Plague Bearers?![]()
He looks a bit stoned, but he can probally still kick my arse :P
Jurand: This is a Thousand Sons Mod. We're not doing Noise Marines or Plague Bearers (which are BTW a daemon; the unit is called plague marines). Sorry![]()
GoldHow about substituting Rubic Marines with some Noise Marines? Or Plague Bearers?![]()
Bier en tieten
We've already got enough work with the few units we have. We are a very small team when it comes to creating new units, basically one modeler, one skinner and one animator. There's no way we could work on Slaanesh and Nurgle as well. That said I'd love to work on a Nurglite, the gore would be fun.
After all these wonderful closeup-shots, which almost make me drown in my own drool, how does all this look like when watched a bit further away? Just thinking while waiting
The more I've seen of your wip-images and anims, the more I'm waiting for seeing it completed
Wunderbar! Or something.
Well, we have one of each, but the best of each!
Mit Gas: Blood traitor... :bomb:
Immortus: The units looks great from far away. They blend seamlessly into the game. Except maybe they look a tiny bit sharper. Hmm...s'pose I'd have to show you an ingame screen to show you how they look far away.

I so can't wait for this mod now. No one has the right to criticise a mod team for trying.
Sorry to be a chore, but I've looked up the games workshop site and I can't find what the greater daemons actually do whilst in the game. Can someone shoot me a summary of what the LoC can do? (and maybe the great unclean one and keeper of secrets if you have time)
Without going into great details, the Lord of Change pretty much is just a slightly weaker version of the bloodthirster, but it can use psychic powers, the Unclean one just rolls around being all pestilant, and the Keeper of Secrets just kills people and screams alot.

Woah there Zena, don't pull a vocal cord.
so have u guys got a tech tree written up for this walking mummies
tech tree is done more or less but no idea if anyone wrote it down completely.
