The face is excellent. How about a sort of skull cappish chain mail look for the head. Ala, the Lord Marshall from The Chronicles of Riddick.

Ed Case?! THE ED CASE Thinks I'm mentally retarded?!?

unfortunately for you, you're missing out on the finer points of my message. The above was about The Loving God, and how his love pours through me and extends to all living things... yea... for he is Lord.

    Oh oops. That's Slaanesh.

It's about how we like you... no really... see? <3 HEART!
mwahaha...the essence of deception is the emoticon

My frame of mind is that there's a complicated set of standards in a social exchange, as well as a certain amount of data to be derived from any communication. When people do not make use of the data, or overstep their bounds due to a lack of understanding of the subtleties of their social duty in a situation, I respond by spewing forth a torrent of undifferentiable crap, which, hopefully, makes people pause in wonder at the possibility of its mere existence (not necessarily its meaning).

Then, over time, when I do *not* explode, seemingly without provocation, people gradually begin to build a pattern in their head, and this adjusts their behavior. Whether it adjusts it as I intend or not, is a question open for debate. You might say that any effect I have is purely coincidental. Yet, I know from personal experience that it has adjusted the response mechanisms of certain specific individuals for the better (in my opinion), and this is sufficient cause for me to continue.

I hope that if you're *really* Ed Case, you'll see the method to this madness, and remove my name from the dreaded "list". Whatever that means.

  4. #504
    Thank you DeathBunny...

As for me being THE Ed Case...that particular question is usually the cause for much amusement. For I am not the EdCase you seek..I have simply had this "nickname" for way too long to discard it. Late 1986 was when it was first used for bulletin board purposes..It has seen much usage from that date..most notable on the old westwood boards for Red Alert and the founding of the 1AF fleet for the SFC series of games.
Tis often I am mistaken, but loathe am I to retire it.(afterall I did meet my wife whilst using it...way back in '91 before Internet dating was even a phrase)

As for your rhetoric..I find it amusing...but please don't believe you ARE changing anything..this medium is nebulous and quickly forgotten by most.
Apologies for the minor thread jacking....normal service will now resume
To try and fail is noble.
To never try for fear of failure is tragic.

I agree totally with what all you TS people have said, and none of it is harsh/OTT/selfish or whatever other people have said about your posts/logic.

I've said it before, other people say it alot too - people on this board need to grow up, and stop the whole "I'm right, you're wrong NOW GO MAKE YOUR MOD HOW I WANT IT!!!" attitude. It sucks.

I think the attitude about shaved heads is a direct assault on black basketball players; making anyone who's suggesting a bald head for this termie a racist. A dirty filthy racist.
black basketball players? what about the skin-head thugs and National Front members that Britain is associated with having such a problem with? they're the kind of people that I associate skin-head evil with, the type of people where violence is everything and planning and thought have no part. From that point of view, a Thousand Sons leader (who will be intelligent and generally a magic user) wouldn't be bald.

And back more on topic, this really is shaping up to be a great mod. The skins seem to have a quality better than those originally released by Relic (from the screenshots at least). I just wish I could do work even a fraction as good as this!
Customisation is king - stick with Dawn of War!

and all this agro because some of us dared to pick faults with the model... jeez guys, public forum allows freedom of speech. I'm sure Mit-Gas will agree that all the comments posted were not dissing his skills, or his model, merely trying to find ways to improve it even further. Thats the whole point of CC.

If he was offended in anyway, he would have said, and rightly so. The fact that so many people have posted CC about the model demonstrates how many people think this Mod will score big.

I look forward to the next shot.

why is it that nobody seems to understand that freedom of speech has two steps

step 1: you are allowed to say something

step 2: WE are allowed to say something

Lets try this another time. If you go to a play like concept-art.org and post in the finished work forums or whatever and someone posts a paragraph or two of criticism, it means a lot more because they're an artist and their crits are well thought out. By which I mean they're going to talk about proportion, lighting, and other things which actually count. Not whether the idea itself is acceptible. They don't talk about the idea itslef because on any given day if you pile people like cordwood in a room and ask them what they think, you'll get a bunch of different ideas. Someone will think the most evil thing you can ever hope to see is a clown. Someone else will think we shoudl make captain ahab with a force-harpoon. Still another person will tell us that women are evil and that all our helmetless characters should look like Rachel Welch. So when the issue is hair, there's nothing to do but throw up your hands.

Let me be very clear; I cannot picture a universe in which that termie doesn't have hair. Yet some of you cannot picture a universe where he *does*. That is the individual aesthetic and has nothing to do with useful feedback. You get to make those kinds of determination when you're a) Employing us b) making the mod yourself. Neither of these things are true, so those kinds of crits are a wash.

There are a couple people here who had a better general crit; and lo- and behold, Mit Gas incorporated those suggestions as he worked.

And we're allowed to say that.

Finally, when there's a giant WIP sticker on the post, it's hard to crit. If you go to concept-art.org, the kinds of questions that get asked on wip are ones of real general composition. Like 'hey, those tatoos aren't really working I don't think'.

    not 'give him boils' :P

again, mouth off all you want. As is the case in nearly every situation, your right to say something is proportional to my right to say that something is stupid.

And, most importantly, the whole point of CC is to improve the product. If your cc consists of 'that's a nice car, but it should have wings and a propeller', then you're not giving good cc.

  13. #513
Oh dear.. look what you have done to the bunny. Nasty I say old chap.

  14. #514

    He's right you know

Very eloquent AND coherent Death. And I absolutely agree with the points you make....this time

To give a slighty more defined guideline.

    1. Point out what looks "wrong"

    2. Explain why

    3. Suggest HOW you would do it (if you had Mit Gas's talent)

    4. Be prepared to hear "nope ,that doesn't fit our (the Modteam/artist) concept/image"

5 stop with the "freedom of speech" stuff. You are NOT free to say anything you like,if you where there would be no guidelines or moderators.

  15. #515
just one advice to the 1000sons team: Don't publish unfinished work anymore!

Actually deathbunny, no one here said get rid of the hair, they were suggesting ways to improve the look of the hair. CC is there to help/aid the modeller it doesn't matter whether or not it's not a piece of artwork, or a highly detailed model. CC is there to suggest improvements to ANY model.

I agree though, some people need to explain their crits a little better, as you say "adding boils" isn't very helpful, but at least it's some crit. Whats worse is when people say "great" "brilliant".

The moderators are here on the forums to deal with the idiots who spam/swear/insult. The point of a board is for people to discuss topics, both for and against. Just because it might not agree with your view doesn't mean it's not valid.

I agree Maestro, but then you should also know that critism can be very helpful, espically when your modelling mid-high poly models.

What i don't understand is why a few months ago CC was allowed, and now its frowned on?

However, may i suggest for the good of the topic and for the developer team, we cease this rubbish. Everyones had a say, lets not make this into a silly argument which could and should be avoided.

Actually deathbunny, no one here said get rid of the hair,
that's true. Except for all the posts where they do. Explicitly.

Also, don't make this part of your political agenda about the forum... 'it used to be ok, and now it's not what the hell is that aobut?!'

A few months ago I still wouldn't want to hear from someone that we should put tits on a rhino or ostrich feathers on someone's breastplate. Boils isn't a crit, it's a suggestion. It's like saying to George Lucas 'hey, maybe if you made jar jar binks a jedi; that would be cool'. This is not a criticism and it's not constructive. It's just a different direction.

Boils is a different direction. We're not going in that direction. Acht kleine Jägermeister fuhren gerne schnell
Sieben fuhren nach Düsseldorf und einer fuhr nach Köln

you are fuhring nach koln, we are fuhring nach dusseldorf. If you don't want to go to dusseldorf, that's fine. we *like* it in dusseldorf and wanted to go there. We were totally planning this trip from like 2 weeks back, and if you want to come with that's cool, but if not, don't act like we're supposed to go to koln with you. Koln's fine. We're going to dusseldorf.

I hope this helps obfuscate the issue.

It's of course all wip but I've changed the skin quite a bit after I wasn't satisfied with it and now I am. Hair is very early wip but at least it's more than one single color now.

Once he's done and his armour is complete, he'll drop kick us all just by his shear coolness. Seeing the "mug" itself may not look as impressive as when the entire model is full textured and ONLY THEN you won't be concerned about his "human quality" but how so badly your troops get owned by him and his minions. Muhahahahah!

  26. #526
    Why would he be frowning?
He's a smugly superior, arrogant, armored TS Sorceror .And thats the quality imo that Mit Gas has portrayed.............
Frown? nope more likely he'd grin as he turned loyalist SMurfs into greasy spots on the terrain. :sprint:

  27. #527
If you make him frown, he'll look like a sad prep who dropped his crumpets and tea...

I also miss the scar on his lips.

He is set up to feature facial animation. It will depend on the situation.

Since I'm going to be animating his face, I'll let you in on what I have planned

During movement, he'll feature Ironic Detachment, which will turn to unsettled bemusement when charging. While idle, he'll switch between casual dismissal, laconic disengagement, and vainglorious skepticism.

In combat, he'll be emphatically taciturn, culminating in petulant affectation during a sync kill. While spell casting, he'll dreamily dissemble.

Finally, when being injured, I'm going to go with melange.

    I hope this helps...

  30. #530
Ohhh.. facial animations... is it possible in DOW.. never seen the Force Commander smile before.

Much better, glad you altered the sides of the hair. Looks far better now, i agree with the skin, it's a little more pale, it doesn't look like it has a layer of foundation on anymore. He looks alot more battlehardened because of it.

He's got that air of someone who's rather emotionless, seen it all before, the only thing that i can see now which may or may not need changing. Is the ridge of the nose looks very narrow, espically when it joins onto the lower part of the nostrils.

I think it would look fine from another angle however. Ever considered giving him an afro... :P

  33. #533
The Libarian can roll it's eyes and open the month (most units can). It's no problem to add some bones to a face to make it express some mimics but, will you see it in game?
I think it's ok campaigne but, else it's not really worth the effort, better a race to play then some nice screenshoots.

Alright, for the benefit for all those who do not know the background of the thousand sons then there might be something to consider.

The sorceror could look like anything he wants because it would be easier to use you that way.

Ive not been keeping close with this mod but i hope there are lots of cool fighting animations, like pickeing men and throwing them or just turning men to dust or something. Burning, sludge, spawn, etc.

    the impaler

  37. #537
Sorcerers are sorcerers not shapeshifters. What are plastic surgeons for?

Anyways, amazing death animations like turning units to dust is NOT possible as we have to match our kills with the death animations of the races by Relic. But there are cool animations so don't fear that our units will not hop around like the tau commander (never played it but people said he does).

  38. #538
Can't wait to see those animations when the mod's released.

yeah the scar.. liked it very much, kind of gave him some individual look
you´re sure it´ll stay left out Mit?

  47. #547
if you guys like the scar on his lip so much, I'll put it back.

  48. #548
Why I think the gash on the right cheek should stay and the scar on the lip should not.

The scar on the right cheek reminds me of something I heard about.
There is a school in Germany where they have fencing in the curriculum.
In that school, there is a fraternity, if one of the members receives a gash on the cheek, they make sure it leaves a scar.
Kind of like a badge of honor.

The gash on the cheek makes him look like a fencer, while a scar on the lip would make him look like a brawler.

hm if I remember correctly, our history teacher told us that those guys were actually students at the time before WWII, but not at a particular school

uhm I´m not really sure about it, so please correct me if I´m wrong..

  50. #550
Mayhap it's not just one school, but they still exist, or at least a group that follows the same ritual.

But that's not the point, I used them as an example.
    Please stay on topic.
