    so anyway, I was going to try and do some voice acting for this mod, but uhhh, my sister moved like an hour away from town, and so it will be awhile before she gets her recording studio all setup in her new house, and I have no idea when I'll be going out there so yeah... anyway when is the release date on this mod? hopefully I can find out if I can get stuff done by then...

    GoD, releasedate is not decided yet but we aim for a release a bit after the expansion. In case you want to voiceact, send me your samples once you're able to record with your sister's equipment.

    Actually, the real reason for the Horus Heresy was that the Emperor was molesting his primarchs. Horus was the only one with the guts to stand up and say 'no, I won't juggle your balls for humanity!', and then all the legions who turned to chaos were, in fact, the ones who wanted nothing more to do with the Emperor's 'nemesis force weapon' as he called it.

    All the marines who staid behind were affected by Stockholm syndrome.

    As said earlier, the mod is beautiful.

    Some questions, however:

    1. Are you planning on making new models/sounds for every unit, or will some be reused from the base game?
    2. Will you be releasing the source (.luas) in addition to the .rgds when you release the mod (please)?

    Keep up the good work and I eagerly await what promises to be one of the best mods for Dawn of Pants.

    That may/may not be a totally good idea. Yes it protects all your work that you've done for the almost-year its taken (considering the cool pro help you were able to procure) **BUT** for the sake of the DoW community it might be "the right thing to release your source(s)" so everyone can learn from what you've done and perhaps express their creative side and mod your work even further. You guys are the keepers of the LUAs you've worked so diligently for these many MANY months and now v1.30 allows for closed publishing of your works.

    You might want to have a roundtable among yourselves about what the strategy is to releasing TS' source since many (if not all) DoW mods will be doing for the sake of knowledge exchange. Unless of course there's profit involved in your project due to the external talent you brought in? Dunno..

    Whatever you decide, the community will be super-thankful regardless. QA for the mod seems exceedingly commercial in its standards!

    I don't think its legal to profit off of mods unless you get the express written consent of relic. I'm fairly certain that if they sold TS (and trust me it would sell like hotcakes) relic would be able to sue them if they so desired (and they probably would if not just to prevent a dangerous precedent from being created - who can blame them though?).

    I too hope that it will become common courtesy to release the source code but if they don't want to that's their perogative and I respect it - similarly to the way I respect relics decision not to give us access to all the models in the base game. I just wish they'd reconsider

    i too would like to have a FEW of the source files (the ones for turrets, research and Race BPS mainly) to change the pop cap and buff the turrets so they cant actually be a problem for rushers (i play skirmish only, i dont like online play) but i doubt Hra let alone MrD and mit would release said files.

    But indeed, why not release the LUAs for unit EBPs, SBPs and weapons? Surely there cannot be anything proprietary in those, and it would allow people to integrate...

    I won´t make any file public that could enable people to use my models as a base for their crappy "conversions". Call me an ass- I simply don´t want to. As long as I am doing this for free- which I am after all- this is a very small thing I ask for in exchange.

    If Hraefn feels the same about his coding work I can understand his reasoning very well.

    There is a .lua version of the mod somewhere on the net.
    If you can find it, you will have access to the early code.

    When it comes to profit, we are not making money,
    we are actually loosing money, and on top of that,
    we are investing huge quantaties of time on the mod.

    So please people, stop your wild speculations.

    If by a "crappy conversion" you mean using your models and retexturing them, all that is needed really is the animator (which you are going to ship, I hope )...

    An example of this approach would be Veteran Sergeants and Terminator Sergeants, both of which were conceived of long ago by Rudy86.

    Not trying to be contentious at all, just wondering what is it that you mean.

    You're not allowed to use any parts of our models or textures actually. While GW owns the right of the liscense and ideas, we still do own the rights of our models and textures but can't sell them because what they're based on belongs to GW for instance.

    That said, I hope people won't feel the need to edit our models and textures. I guess for the coding applies the same but you could always do it like this: change everything around and make sure we don't know. :P

    If you can edit the models in a way that I never suspect they originally were mine then I don´t have problem with that. That however would mean you could simply make your own to start with which is which I usually suggest anyway.


    By editing in a way I don´t suspect is I mean at least changing the x/y/z posaition of every single vertex. I really spend quite some time to find out whether people try and "steal" if I think that to b the case. Some kind of wierd hobby of mine.

    There is a very early version for 1.2 and older, doesn't have any new models.
    Note that the end result will be a bit different from that one.

    that mod was made ALONG time ago mind you.

    as for the models/FX/ other kinds of artsy stuff, easy to understand, those are your ideas and what you believe the TS should be.

    as for the SBPS, EBPS and other basic attrib folders made public is something id like to see, but i can also see why hra wouldnt want to do that. me personally, id be happy with massive pop caps and greatly buffed turrets, so they can actually harm any attempts at base attacks.

    and while coping and saying the mod is "yours" can (i suppose) happen, however the only "real" source for DoW DLs is DoWfiles and im sure MrD and mit will check there for any attempts at copys.

    Hraefn, that download link does not appear to work.

    As newghost said, models and textures and the like are yours to keep. No qualms there. I'd just like to see some of the attrib files made public so people could tweak the mod to thier specifications and fix bugs (to claim it was theirs after doing so would be ridiculous since everyone could tell where it came from since the models would be the same and the general layout of the race would be the same). After all, what happens if you guys dissolve in a few months after the release (it will happen eventually most likely) and some bugs are found when a new patch comes out? And, years later, the source will be eventually lost if only a select few of you guys hold it...

    After all, I think that if we made it common courtesy to release most of the source code it would also be common courtesy to not copy it, else some loser ruin it for the rest of us Can the internet have courtesy though? haha

    That Colour is awsome BUT I don't think he should have hair cause looks likes, elvis/prince. I vote no hair.

    and they are some millenia old, but the face looks as if he had 30 or so yrs...
    I know about that in the EoT aging is pretty messed up, but still he looks too young to even be a space marine, and he is supposed to be a veteran...

    Maybe grey-going on white hair. If it could be long hair though would be cool. Maybe a scar going from above an eye to beneath it, with the eye itself blind. A sorceror, if without helmet, could have completely black eyes or something - quite scary!

    Well, I think this discussion is very interesting and I'm happy about all your input myself.

    I'll write down my, or better said, our thoughts so that you know the reasons why he currently looks like this.

    While Thousand Sons (I'm only going to talk about Sorcerers/Psykers in this post, not those whose bodies were destroyed by the Rubric) surely are followers of Chaos, they serve Tzeentch, probably (next to Khorne) the most noble God out of them. It's safe to say that long-time followers of Khorne lose their nobility and honor sooner or later when their lust for bloodhed grows stronger.

    While tzeentchian Sorcerers might be lusting for Power and backstabbing assholes (if you don't like profanity read: VERY evil meanies) I do think that their lust for knowledge did not pervert their faces. You know, Sorcerers are meant to be smooth so that you actually believe them when they're lying, basically charisma is one of their most needed traits therefore. And whom would you rather trust, this guy or someone who looks like Lord Bale?

    Apart from that Magnus, while being a mutant was said to be more charismatic than the best human politicans at the Council of Nikaea so it's safe to say that charisma is a part of the Sons edged into their very cells. Just in case you wanted to say I make this up.

    The Mod team also always saw the Sons as tragic heroes, like in an ancient greek play (excluding homosexuality), quite noble and regal before their noble ways were overshadowed by their lust for wisdom. And since they protected themselves from mutation their faces probably didn't change too much.

    What's also important is to say that this is a WiP (Work in progress picture) so not final. I tend to work with a healthy skincolor and change it later on to make it more pale. Besides that, the face is not animated yet, it's right now in a relaxed position so who knows how perverted his mimic will be once deathbunny starts animating his face.
    And actually it wasn't modeled after Elvis Presley, MrD used Mike Patton as the basis of the head and as inspiration for the skin I've looked at Christian Bale, Jason Isaacs and Christoper Lee.

    Anyways, he will look a bit more evil and unhealthy in the end but he's not going to be another Christian Bale. The Thousand Sons shall look very unique because anything else they won't deserve.

    However I've noted your suggestions and will incorporate them to make an unhealthy mix. So keep em coming but don't cry when it's not being incorporated. They have so many qualities so we can't reduce their face to just a few. An evil guy can also look very nice although he's producing childporn.
