What Needs to be done about the online lobby system

I Dont think DOW has picked up as much as hoped. It's a great game, i love it, but it can be very frustrating playing some games.

I really think that Relic need to sort out the online lobby and i'll bulletpoint my suggestions which would definetley make this game for the better.

• A Friends window - I think this would be extremely nice to have so that friends can keep contact and stuff. you know what i'm chatting about
  
• An ARRANGED TEAMS automatch games - basically if you are with friends you can play 2v2 ranked automatches etc TOGETHER. When i play with friends the whole creating game thign doesnt cut it, it's boring, and usually against less skilled players. An automatch with pre selected teams would be extremley useful, and may actually make the 2on2/3on3 ratings etc actually mean anything

there's probably more, but i've forgotten... it's be nice to instead of having all these stupidly named rooms ( i know its probably all warhammer 40k fluff names) and instead maybe give continental rooms (europe, North america, Asia, etc etc etc.)

just ideas, feedback!

The room names /are/ segments of space in the 40K galaxy. Pretty pointless really.

Another thing that needs to be addressed, is how you get shunted to different rooms if it's near 200. A bit annoying.

Also, friends list needs to be persistent.

how about making the text size not be microscopic as it has been ever since beta 1.4 and later

i don't appreciate the eyestrain the microscopic text causes and i'm sure many other people feel the same way

please make the text bigger (ie: pre-beta 1.4 size) or at least give an option to make it bigger via the Options screen

They should have a chat system like that of Warcraft 3. As for the game becoming more popular, who knows? I'm HOPING more people get the game and begin playing DoW because I don't see very many people online usually, the most players I've seen in one channel is around 200 in the Segmentum Solar, and the rest are all but devoid of life most of the time.

Mods in the Lobby.

Unreal, from one extreme to the other.
For weeks I have watched some unbelievable stuff being said in the lobby.
Things from ppls mums,family,sexuality and racist comments. NOTHING was done about it.

Last night I watch as some jerk (I know NO NAME CALLING so I will not name him.) absoulutly abused this guy for playing on his team and being a NOOB. OMG was he born a l33t player? At one stage he was a noob. Anyways he wrote in caps and said many things about this guy (who did not know where ignore was)

He then wrote that he was "a G*y Ni*g*r"

That was enuff for me.

I wrote "Does it make you feel tuff calling ppl N*gge*s? Are your parents out and you want to be a tuff guy on the net?" (I actually rarely write anything on the lobby, but was p*ssed enuff to write this time.)

I then got a 24 hour ban from lobby (Like I care, I use TS).

Granted I used the word, BUT come on! I used it in defence of anther guy AND NEVER WAS INTENDED TO BE RACISTS AND WAS NOT WRITTEN AS RACIST! **Calming down,as I am sooooooo anti racist.**

Great we have MODS, but a little commonsence is needed.

I've complained before about this, also. I suppose all the designers have very expert vision, or 24 inch monitors? I have a 19 inch monitor, and that font is WAY too small.

Not only is it hard to read because of the size, but it looks rather unfriendly and intimidating to be confronted with this huge block of microscopic text when in the lobby.

It might help for the game designers to realize that when I'm doing business on my computer, I tend to sit up in my chair, much closer to the screen, etc. Probably similar to the position of a person programming a game and thinking. Oh, that font looks plenty big enough.

But when gaming, I like to be relaxed, leaning way back on my chair, comfortable. Harder to read small fonts from that position.

Might have something to do with it. Do with it what you will.

Completely nullifies the lobby imho.

-ranked non automatch games (only if Take and Hold + Control Area+ annihilate are selected)
-points granted more dependant on the relative ratings
-make the game count after 30 secs in ranked games: as it is now, you can easily scout rush the ennemy and drop if it is not succesful, it really is a no brainer for a rusher to get close to the TOP 100 using this technic, and some good ranked ones do abuse it indeed
-fix the random kicking of players problem in the game launch screen
-fix the problem which makes it impossible for two given persons to join the same game
-moderation on the channel(spamming, racism, etc...)

I thought gamespy had an automatic kick for users who used certain words etc. It used to when I used it ~4 years ago anyway, it'd kick the person and then mute them from chat for a week.

Not that I've ever actually used the chat inside dow.

last night, and whispered to Chatmonitor-gs about his actions/profanity/anti-Bush/anti-USA stuff and got no response...

I would like to see some action taken against this type of continued vulgarity. Its not necessary, not game related, just hate towards a group of people. Its not something we should have to be exposed to everytime we log into the game, and it is surely something I would not want my son to see.

Well, a word of knowledge...the ChatMonitors apparently suck @$$, so there is nothing stopping jerks and fiends in those chatrooms who enjoy flaming people for no reason. Lovely how this community is budding and yet we have a bunch of jerks scaring people away with their trivial garbage and bad words.

apparently the chat monitor mutes you for 24 hours if you say "nigger" (The word is within context, not intended as a racial slur) but i think we do need mods.

Sort of along the lines with Automatch and lobby.

1. automatch system is bogus if you are behind a router that can not have ports fowarded (for one reason or another). It will keep trying to make you host the game even though this is not achievable with some firewalls. Also as more people enter the lobby, it gets overloaded and takes longer and longer.

2. Observer mode . . . I want to watch my friends play 1v1 . . wait i cant . . . unless i kill myself on a 2v2 map.

Also they said these things are planned . . can we get an ETA? For the next balance patch also ?

I've looked at the team automatch ladders ( and it is pretty strange:
you need 1060 to enter top100 in 2v2 and some still at 1000 are top 100 in 3v3/4v4 although most players prefer team games over 1v1
IMO we need preset teams in automatch even before balance patch, as I think this issue hurts the game more

It'd be great if u could easily send replays to other players rather than having to post em online --> also if u could watch a replay without having to disconnect from the online servers would be good.

Basically a sort of file sharing system (limited to DOW only content obviously) for replays, banners n badges would be pretty cool and I feel it'd be good for the community to be able to rapidly share custom badges/colour schemes etc. The current system is pretty clunky afaik (ie download then copy/paste from forum into relevant DOW files).

I know that ChatMonitor in the Homeworld 2 Gamespy lobbies muted people, quite a lot of them.
