    In need of help....

I have been playing dawn of war since it came out in september. I haven't been very good with any other teams in this game except orks. When i started orks i lost a few games, but grew on them just recently. Please rate my strat. Feel free to give any constructive criticisms necessary.

    My main ork build
main base builds gretchen squad 2
gretchen squad 1 reinforced and builds waagh banner
slugga squad 1 caps nearest point
gretchen squad 2 reinforced and builds boyz hut
main base builds slugga squad 2 after waagh banner finishes
gretchen squad 1 builds another waagh banner
    boys hut builds Big Mek
slugga squad 2 caps nearest points
gretchen squad 2 builds Listening posts over capped locations
main base builds slugga squad 3

After that I continue building listening posts over capped locations and start reinforcing my boyz squads. I send in my 3 slugga squads and Big Mek and destroy enemy listening posts and decap their captured locations. If they are SM/CSM i usually send a squad of the boyz to tie up a squad of marines in close combat while the Big Mek and another squad of boyz kills the commander and/or remaining units.
Usually, I destroy most of the units or sometimes all, but I rarely succeed in killing them all. If I do succeed, I annihilate them 80% of the time. If I fail, I continue my attempt to win by building a pile of guns, another squad of boyz, and a mek shop. Then i proceed to traks. I usually win with the traks 70% of the time. If I fail to do that, I just do awkward builds from there.... because I dont really have any idea on what to do then (this is the spot in which I really need help on improving). Usually I upgrade to orky fort, get more waagh banners, build and reinforce a nob squad, build a killa kan, and get a warboss. I used this strat in a game against an opposing eldar player, which I posted in the section of the forums where you post the replays. Check it out.

I need some tips and hints on what to do after the Trak and boyz rush (if you saw my replay, you'll probably agree :lonely: ) Also give me some tips on anything i can do to improve the first 5-10 minutes of my games, which is a real boodfest!!!:vikingb:

    Thnx.

    BlackGobbo,

It sounds like you've got things pretty much under control. Your main build is quite standard and the exact same that a number of people around here use, including myself when I'm not being tricky.

    I assume you're talking about 1 versus 1 games?

In the section that you feel you are a bit awkward, where the traks haven't won the game for you, the most important thing to do is to decap all the enemy LPs. At that point it becomes more about economy than anything else. Use the wartrakks or stormboys for this. Protect the LPs you've caprtured. Taking out the LPs mean that your enemy can't continually fight you off.

Apart from that you've got it pretty spot on. The Warboss and Nobz are the way to go for Tier 3 heavy action. Maybe a Squiggoth for good measure. Maybe even pack the nobz into the Squiggoth and go for a bit of a rampage inside the enemy base.

I haven't looked at your replay yet, I'll give it a go once I get home from work.

Great! thnx for the review/help. Ill try with the stormboyz/traks, but if I still find it difficult to even snatch a listening post (maybe because of a super solid defense force that is great against normal infantry, and not heavy),then i will try and do what i did to defeat the eldar player in the Battle Archives section of the forums.

ps: he used lots of banshees, warp spiders and guardians because of the "normal" ork infantry. Eldritch Storm to destroy the vehicles (which really got the traks killed quick).
But what he lacked was units good "vs heavy infantry" (probably just because nobz and warboss are the only ork heavy infantry)

    thnx again

I saw in your build order that you build that second banner before you fill the orky pop of the first. With one banner you can have 4 squads of sluggas and BM. Generaly speaking it is a good idea to fill your pop cap before building another banner, especialy that early in the game when 150 req means one more squad and faster advancement on the enemy. I usualy try for BM+4 sluggas in under 2 mins. well hope that helps your early game I'll watch your replay when I get home from work.

I also try for BM and 4 squads in 2 minutes. I take the BM and 3 squads to harass, and take 1 squad for capping/decapping.

I am a firm believer in an early generator too, as it opens up more possibilities when you get your pile of guns. I try and get the eavy armour upgrade as soon as possible.

When you get to that awkward stage, just try and to hit and runs with your wartrakks on the enemies' LP's, and try to tech in the background. When he tries to defend that LP, move onto another one. This will keep him busy and will probably slow down his teching. 2-3 wartrakks with rocket launchers are ideal for this.

I agree with psychodil I usualy build a generator before the second banner. Then more after the mech shop is up. I would say if you are succesful early game 2-3 trakks is usualy a show stopper, but if not thier mobility is crucial for gorilla tactics.

Yea that strategy is pretty much what i do too.
The only difference being that i tend to make two slugga boyz then 1 shoota boyz instead...then i add another slugga squad later.

Trying to work on early wartraks at the moment, i heard twin rokkits do more damage than the chukka bombs on wartraks is this true?

i never upgrade my wartrakks, bigshootas do crazy damage with the pile of guns upgrade (blasiter reasearch). Rockets take to long to load and, miss almost evry time with wartrakks. Bomb Chukka's are juust plain crap and don't do anything, exept moral to the infintry.

I noticed that i never had gotten nobz in my starting boyz squads.

Is it a good idea to get nobz in each squad of three instead of squads of 4 sluggaz????

oh ok, well i still wouldn't waste 450 req to get three of those in the begnning of the game. I would only maby have two, no maby only one. Cuase you can usally win the game without nobs. In a massive rush.

No your right it is usualy never a good idea especially early game too build banners unless youve reached your pop cap. Just seems like wasted req to me.

Oh and "Gorilla" big furry beasty.
And "Guerilla" hit and run tactics pretty much difined by that cuban guy Che.

Heh was a late night half asleep on my post. :smash:

Sometimes I build waagh banners when I havent reached my pop limit. This normally happens when I need to reach a certain pop cap to tech. Usually I have around 30-35 orks, and I need to het to a pop cap of 50 so I can build wartakks quickly.

Of course if I am being harassed I can reinforce up to my pop cap (funds providing).

Yeah, I usually go for more warrgh banners than I need, mainly because I try and get to nobs as quickly as possible.
